Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup - Hits 0.71
July 28th, 2010, 15:20
We don't normally do much with roguelikes but the popular Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup recently released v0.70 (and 0.71) with a number of enhancements, including much nicer graphic tiles. If you haven't really delved into roguelikes before, this isn't a bad place to start.

The new tiles and the shading effects are nice.

Holy crap! This game's awesome
I'm playing the tiles version and its exactly what I want in a roguelike.
Specifically, the auto-pickup and auto-explore features make the pace so fast! You're always at the point of either finding an item or battle. It really takes some of the boring leg-work out of the game so you can just focus on making a new build to try out. Of course you don't HAVE to use auto-explore, but its pure gold.
I'm not getting too far, I don't think, but my top 3 scores so far are something like
3300 Mountain Dwarf Fighter
2200 kenku wizard (fire)
1800 minotaur chaos knight (of xom)
