Default KB: Crossworlds - Review @ RPS

September 1st, 2010, 15:41
Alec Meer has penned a Wot I Think review of Kings Bounty: Crossworlds. Ultimately it ends up his favourite KB title but not without some criticism and boredom:
I wish Crossworlds did more, especially given the melodramatic title. Itís showing us the same core stuff, the same core places and the same core fights, and I really need it to move on after three years. But this is as far as it could sensibly push what it is capable of, and it goes much further than Armoured Princess, the staid and unambitious middle-child of this vital series, ever did.

As such, itís the title Iím going to nod to whenever anyone asks me which KB game to pick up. It mightnít have the anecdotal power of the first, but that surprise delight was also hamstrung by a dreary, grindy second half. Crossworlds is a game you can tackle in peppy chunks, enjoying a series of fresh experiences rather than one over-long one. This is the status quo-perverting wonder that made Kingís Bounty sing, now extended to its strategy rather than just its setting. It might cling to safety in the broadest sense, but itís impossibly clever and cartoonish where it matters.
More information.

Hmm…

I grew bored with the original game pretty quickly. Too grindy and too much text

no problem. btw, the lower price is an upgrade that requires KB-AP to be installed. also, if you have the gift pack mod for AP, it has to be removed before you can install Crossroads.

are you talking about KB-L or KB-AP? L is good but AP is much better imo. am curious as to the yet unannounced game by Katauri which is supposed to be reveled later this year. wonder if it will be another KB game or something new. speculation is that it may be a diablo type action rpg but personally i am hoping for an official MOM2.

I only played the first one… Excellent in many ways, but simply too grindy.

I guess I should try AP then

Except that Crossroads isn't a standalone game…

*Edit* Ah I see…. there will be two versions.

I tried the demos of the previous games as it looked interesting but never got it working. There was some issue with dual screens.

Any one know if that is fixed now?
