Default ‘The report of my death was an exaggeration’

"Personal computers, long an ailing member of the larger technology market, had a strong second quarter. After consistent quarters of decline, the worldwide PC market was either up 0.1 percent, or down a modest 1.7 percent in the period, according to Gartner and IDC, respectively. In the United States, the PC market was up around 7 percent in the quarter, again according to the two firms."

http://techcrunch.com/2014/07/11/the…recent-memory/

Article skips over the fact that the decline in the PC market was also due to the fact that PCs are now powerful enough so that, with only partial upgrades, people stick with their systems for longer that they did in the past. And that there will be further upsurge in the market once the new generation of CPUs, GPUs and RAM will be finally released.
Still, not a bad news for the PC owners!

I never care for headlines about PC sales.
PCs are not cows, pigs or chicken where you should buy a new every now and then because, well, the previous one got eaten.

Do you have a PC? If yes and if it's working pretty good there is no reason to buy another. And besides, why would you buy a complete machine if only CPU farted? You'll buy only CPU.

Whoever does those reports completely misses the point.
PC is not a pair of headphones, a joystick, a phone, it's not a console and it's not like anything else. It's goods different from anything - it's an upgradable machine.
Instead of "sales" the proper list would be how many PCs got upgraded this year.

The question is, if decision makers in the gaming industry care for these headlines…

Decision makers in games industry should care about success of Robert Space Industries. After breaking it's own records in crowdfunding, the last news is Star Citizen won't go consoles for a simple reason.
Consoles are not good enough to handle it.

Sadly, decision makers in games industry seem only to care about CheatersParadise MapleStory and games-for-imbeciles Flappy Bird success.
Why? Because it's easy and cheap to make, almost no risk involved and maybe it sells like a cure. If it doesn't sell, well, no biggie. So what if the market is flooded with junk?
Those who are at least a bit better than that, care only about turning a video game into a slot machine.
