Default Starfarer - 0.34a Released

June 11th, 2011, 02:40
A new alpha for Starfarer is available for those who preordered:
I’m very happy to announce that the 0.34a release is finally here!
What’s in this release?
  • Four new missions and several new ships
  • Customizable key bindings
  • Official mod support – you can find mods in our forum
  • Gameplay and balance changes
  • Colorblind mode (edit data/config/settings.json to toggle)
  • Assorted bug fixes
  • General polish & improvements
For a detailed list of changes, check out the patch notes. The manual is also worth a look – especially for the bits that the current in-game tutorial doesn’t cover.
Head over for "what's not in this release?".
More information.

Excellent stuff. I bought it yesterday and have been having a blast, even though I kinda suck at it.

Good news on the customisable key bindings. I hate WASD and prefer the arrow keys so one of the first things I noticed on the prior release is the lack of ability to change that.

How significant are the RPG elements? From the videos I've seen, it almost looks like a straight action\shooter.

The combat is all that's there right now. We're going to add cutomization and then RPG elements, starting with the next release.

If you're interested, there's a roadmap for the implementation of some upcoming features.

Ah ok, thanks.

•A full character creation system and skills
•Officers & crew
•Establishing outposts on planets
•Blueprints and ship/weapon manufacture
•Trade & exploration
•Faction relations
•Raiding core worlds and outposts
Looks pretty ambitious. I'm particularly interested in seeing how you guys implement the trading and exploration.
