Risen 2 - Pre-Order DLC Bonus - "Treasure Island"
February 1st, 2012, 18:20
So now I'm being forced to gamble either way. If I want to gamble I will go to a casino. I don't want to gamble.I actually agree with the majority on this. It might be a real bomb that I don't want but how do you know if there are no reviews before release? Bad marketing and much worse then KOA

I've seen nothing that indicates the camera in Risen 2 is significantly different from their previous games.

Definitely worse than the KoA case.
Actually, considering how "major" the content of the DLC seems to be, I don΄t really remember a case that I΄d find worse.
This really feels like it should be a part of the base game.

I don't have an issue with DLC that is "released" free to new game buyers. At least, in most cases (??), you can purchase it later if you buy the game used.
Pre-order stuff is a little different for reasons already outlined. It is especially more annoying if you only have this one option to get it and I dislike any pressure to buy a game unplayed. Sure some I do but some I wait on. I am not sure how often pre-order content may be made available, at cost (or free) at a later date.
But even with my dislike I can still see why companies are experimenting with things … but I got into this in another thread.
On a personal level "extra" content that is fluff doesn't bother me nearly as much as something that is more "connected" to the "original" game content.
DArtangan made a good comment (KoA DLC thread) about how DLC, in general, is bad for games and I think there are some valid points there … many I had not thought about before.
Not really a fan of DLC myself (prefer pure game as is then have expansions) but have managed to live with it like many other changes I have seen in games.

Perhaps you're getting jumping confused with climbing. It's been said that climbing is only in hotspots.

Rookie mistake.

This is disappointing to me, too. It's also making me think about postponing purchase until the DLC is available separately at a discount. Bad move, PB.

Wasn't this a CERTAIN buy for most of you before this announcement? How does this change that, really? Get real.

A certain buy is different than a day 1 buy. I was contemplating day 1, but no longer.

The point is not that those ho support this game hould get a benefit - the point is that those who get the game FIRST get a benefit - and no-one else !
Even those supporting the game by buying it later won't get it !
I think this is he point.

Actually, while I'm not 'outraged' by this, I do see that this could be upsetting to some - e.g , newbies, not familiar with the franchise, who, say, read a good review and decide to buy it after release, don't get the DLC. (unless I missed something?) If was said newbie, I would not be happy to learn that I would not get this DLC, or even worse, would have to buy it.

Amazon Germany did it worst : Suddenly, unexpected and without warning there popped out a special armor set for preorderers of Divinity 2 - and that as known only for one week or so ! So nobody in the official Forums really seems to have it, I guess - because the "time window" was simply too small …
Amazon Germany did get other preorder things for Drakensang 2 - dtp was the publisher of both Divinity 2 and Drakensang 2 …

I thought "otherwise worth 800 points" meant that people could buy it for 800 points , i dont see why anyone would include how much it's worth otherwise, doesnt make sense.

I have absolutely no problem with any pre-order/day 1 purchase DLC incentives for any game.
Either the incentive DLC is crap and I have no interest in it anyways (e.g., the DA2 Sebastian DLC), or it's decent and it will eventually be made available on the cheap via Steam. I don't mind waiting a few months for DLC if it is decent.

Exactly, especially if you prefer to read some objective community evaluations before purchase.

Which I guess mean they want to reward the Risen 1 fans who pre-ordered Risen 2, while reducing used game sale a bit…Somebody new to the franchise wouldn't really care about Patty and her dad…

I just don't see the down side here. You pre-order for full price and get the bonus or wait and purchase the game cheaper and the DLC for the same price or less. It is not like they are saying you only get this if you pre-order other wise it is never to be seen again. I think gamers are getting a bit too critical of any action on the part of game companies. Not that we haven't been shafted a few too many times but still this seems like a bit of an over reaction.

The Shale and Warden's Keep DLCs in DA:O didn't require a pre-order, IIRC. Wasn't it something like if you bought within the first month or with a specific retailer? My memory may be off though.

Ha! I was waiting for this double-standard.
So, on the one-hand, it's terrible for everyone who buys it new from any vendor to get a bonus but on the other, it's acceptable to only get the bonus if you buy pre-release from the right vendor in the right territories?
Hilarious.
What we disagree on is that I don't see the DLC for KoA as a bonus. It's included as a part of the game for anyone who buys it new, so I look at it as a part of the game - a part that is linked to one user (which I don't expect to be the case with Risen - though obviously I might be wrong) and one user only. That one missing part will forever mean that the value of the used game is much less than the value of a new game.
I also admit that I have a bit of a double standard when it comes to EA games, as the Origin threshold is one I haven't yet crossed.

If we don't want to pay the full price, we simply wait for it to go on sale for $5 or $10.
