why cannot I enter the birthdate, to search?!

hi all.
I have enjoyed you site for years.
sometimes i want to search the site and when i do i am asked to enter
"yyyy/mm/dd", my birthdate.
this NEVER has worked for me! not on this computer, not on any computer. not for any browser or operating system!
for years!
is the search function never working?!

I think you are referring to the front page below the news headlines where you can enter a date.
If so then this is the date from which you want to see all the newsbits.
2012/05/10 shows all news from the 10th of May, which is exactly one newsbit.
A hidden feature is that you can also enter 2011/11 to see all the news from November 30th and before that, or just 2011 to see all the news from December 31 and before that.
