NPCs with credible behavior and choice & consequence when dealing with them was -at least to me- a very integral part of what made a typical PB game a typical PB game. To no longer have that is much more painful to me than the minor or semi-major annoyances like no diving/swimming/climbing or no drinking animation etc.

That aspect didn't bother me personally. The attitudes of various people towards you are quest/decision based, rather than AI based, which obviously made their storytelling job easier. They could still have had the islander/inquisition choice made for you based on how much you'd pissed off either faction, by stealing their stuff or tweaking their nose-hairs - that would have been good 
In my case I find the simulation and setting real enough that I tend not to want to antagonise people I meet. I generally don't rob or harass them unless they're hostile to me, and that seems to work out fine. I didn't feel Moriendor's annoyances.
