Default Fallout Forum?

Hey guys, I just wanted to bring something to the surface: I enjoy all of the forums dedicated to single games, especially since I havent played so many different games, but I like to talk about the ones I have played.
I went looking for somewhere to share my recent Fallout 3 bouts, and couldnt find Fallout alongside ES and Risen, just wondering if we do something different for non-fantasy themed games, like for post-apocolyptic or modern rpgs, if they have a different place or what. Just wondering, appreciate all input

I think we once had a Fallout forum, but when usage fell off it would have been incorporated into a more general forum. It keeps the menu manageable!!

If God said it, then that settles it!!

I think a fallout series forum would be a great addition, especially as this coming year there will hopefully be some news about Fallout 4!

Fallout 4 would be so sick, I just got back into Fallout 3 which just slays New Vegas like nothing else. I really hope its Bethesda behind the game, or the same team who made Fallout 3 at least.
Im a tad confused on that whole thing actually, Fallout 3 was Bethesda as far as I know, after they got the rights from the creators of Fallout 1 and 2. But then New Vegas was Obsidian if im not mistaken…and the game was mostly garbage.
So whats that? If we get a Fallout 4 is it going to be from the guys who brought us New Vegas or Fallout 3?

Id think itd be cool to have forums for each genre.
Fantasy, Futuristic, Post-Apocalypse, Steampunk/Industrial, Horror and Supernatural
It might stir up some good, genre themed discussion.

TheWharfMaster are you calling Fallout NV garbage? I found both to be good games but in the end Fallout NV was the better game. Mostly due to the setting, story, and companions.

Yeah, be careful what you say about New Vegas around here. The Obsidian fanboys will have a pitchfork up your ass before you have time to say "vault dweller".

Afaik, FO4 is being made by Bethesda.

Sure since I prefer Fallout NV I'm an obsidian fanboy.

I take offense only when people call it garbage when it is not. Both company's make buggy pieces of shit that still somehow turns out good. Bethesda just gets a free pass every release.

Meh, all this sub-forums just make the forums confusing. One RPG-Forum to rule them all - it's not that we get that much posts anyway

And I really can't see why anyone would prefer a game from Bethesda over a game from Obsidian…

Bethesda Game Studios has already started working on Fallout 4, including hiring a number of staff familiar with next gen consoles.

It's still possible they might hire Obsidian to make a sequel in the future after FO4 is released, of course, perhaps using the same engine developed for FO4, just as New Vegas was made using the same engine developed for FO3. (My guess is Fallout 4 will take place in New York, with release in Q4 2014)

They did make quite a bit of money of FO:NV and if Bethesda would agree to a conract that didn't tie bonuses to metacritic score (don't think Obsidian wants that gamble again) then I imagine it would be very possible. MCA did seem to have quite a bit of fun on the FO:NV DLC so it doesn't sound like it was a bad experience overall for them at least.

If that does happen though I would like to see both parties learn from the past experience though and provide a more flexible release deadline with more time scheduled for bugtesting assuming minor delays. They should also probably have Obsidian start on the project before the core FO4 staff would be expected to have moved onto TESVI so they might be more available if assistance is needed.

It has been obvious since Morrowind that Bethesda's QA is unable to adequately simulate end-user usage for the purposes of testing their games. This is understandable since the permutations of player behavior are so numerous, but they haven't exactly nailed it yet so they can't really expect a 3rd party to do any better. They should probably perform some sort of large-user group beta (like the closed public xbox Live! DLC betas) test to get more guidance during testing. If they're worried about leaks then do it in-house but hire dozens and dozens of interns or high-school students to come in and produce more data. And heck they should probably do it for their own major releases too - though the xbox live DLC betas suggest that might be the idea.

Yeah more bug testing would do these games very good.
I didnt really mean to say NV was garbage, maybe only compared to Fallout 3.
I found NV's questlines to have a neat approach, but ultimately cheap and repetitive.
Needless to say, the core story in which you seek down your killer, who didnt put you down quite good enough, and storming that casino with a concealed revolver, getting my long awaited revenge, was solid. I loved that sh*t.
But I hope you can all agree, at least after having played Fallout 3 and NV, that Fallout 3 is the better game. I understand NV was a newer, more forward game, but all-in-all I found the experience wayyy cheaper. I hope thats specific enough, I can be overly general sometimes

As far as all the genre forums, I think seeing the phrase Post-Apocalyptic or Medieval Fantasy sparks an interest in people, obviously all different according to preference, but it gets people prepared to speak on games of those genres, and keep thems organized, by interest.
This way, the Horror and mystery guy gets to see all he wants about horror and mystery, because of the dedicated forum, rather than having to peruse through the Fantasy stuff, which he hates.
But I get what you guys are saying, we wouldnt want to spread our posts too thin-like

And while were talking about forums, I had a question from day one that I havent gotten to ask:

My first day on here, I could have sworn I saw a Philosophy forum or sub-forum, but I cannot for the life of me find it again. Am I mistaken, was it taken down, or is that biz hiding from me?

I got excited about it, and wanted to check it out. I spent a year or so unemployed, and I guess anyone who's in that boat and does a lot of thinking could call themselves a philosopher, but im a natural lover of concepts and ideas, the underlying principles and the reasons why.
Im a natural Aquarius born on a Pisces cusp, if im not mistaken, so I love to learn and I just tend to care about everything. I like to think of myself as a forward-thinking, fair and equalist(?) individual with a mind for the forward direction of the human population, by way of love, understanding, and equality. To the naked eye, the world's in shambles. Even to many educated and thoughtful types, the world is ravaged by corruption, greed and hate. But someone who would dare look within, all this bad still exists, but a glimpse of hope shimmers in the near future, and it shines brighter than any darkness.

I'm into philosophy, because I love to learn something. I'm very interested in astronomy, history, mathmatics, physics and computer science, old germanic languages and nature. My favorite philosophists are Platon, Euklid, Descartes, Kant and Fromm.


Our forum for Politics & Religion.

Unfortunately the willingness to accept / to get a grip on opposing opinions and arguments is actually very low in this forum. So the quality of the discussions is IMHO not so high.
But you can try to change that.

I don't think you are going to find a whole lot of people around here that agree Fallout 3 is better. Personally, I thought New Vegas was much better. Much more choice/consequence and impact on the world.

I would agree that some aspects of New Vegas were much more satisfying, particularly the emphasis on the player's reputation with various factions, the companion story arcs, the hunger and thirst survival needs in the hardcore mode, and the multiple outcomes of the main quest.

Both have quite a few fantastic quests, fascinating lore, interesting characters, and the most riveting post apocalyptic worlds I've experienced in any game. It is one of my all time favorite games, but New Vegas would not have been possible without all the groundwork that went into developing FO3. One might even consider it a sort of brilliant standalone expansion or total conversion mod.

Fallout New Vegas would have been much better if it were not hampered by the constraints and rules Bethesda imposed on them with the Fallout 3 framework. SOme of Obsidian's devs being orginal designers of one if not the best CRPGs of all time, Fallout 1 and 2 could easily have made an even better game then NV. And New Vegas was much more interesting to a Role Playing Gamer then Fallout 3. If Obsidian had free reign to design Falout New Vegas on their own with no constraints we could see an actual evolution in CRPG gaming design that follows in the foundations layed by Fallout 1 & 2, Planescape, and Arcanum. Not like Bethesda's fake choice and dialog options and quests and lack of variety in interaction with the gaming world in relation to how to solve quests, and the styles of quests.

Perhaps you can elaborate on this a bit for someone like me who has never played Fallout 1 and played FO2 only for a couple hours (got stuck in the tribal village starting area ).

Are you suggesting Obsidian would have made an isometric turn based RPG like the canceled Fallout sequel they worked on before Bethesda bought the franchise? There is not a huge market for that type of game these days.

They did a great job with Fallout New Vegas, but they were free to dedicate a lot of production time to level design, developing quests, factions and other aspects of the game because they used the existing Fallout 3 open world sandbox RPG engine.

If they had to create their own Fallout New Vegas 3D game engine from scratch I imagine it would have either ended up either being a very small game for a niche audience, or they would have required 5 or 6 years of production and a massive budget, if they could even pull it off. (And I doubt they would have been able to develop a game with mod toolset as extensive as the GECK. The availability of so many mods is a huge part of the reason why Fallout New Vegas is such a great game.) Bethesda Game Studios is one of very few developers with a track record of developing these huge open world sandbox RPGs, not to mention the support for mod authors.

My biggest complaint with FO3 was hitting the level cap about halfway through. After that, I lost interest!!
