Playing a sorta I´m-too-old-for-this anti-hero character is one of the intended defining characteristics of the games and getting rid of it for the sake of fresh out of school main protagonist would certainly not make the third game inherently better. If anything, it would make it less unique.

Couldn't agree more DeepO. In both "Sword of Destiny" and "Last Wish" it crops up again and again that not only Gerald is growing old but the time where Witchers were a force to be reckoned with is passing. No new Witchers, less and less living ones, less and less monsters of a monster kind (as opposed to monsters of a human kind). From heroes to someting mothers frighten their children with…
