Default Fallout 3 - Teaser Soon…

According to Pete Hines, it's in-engine:

1) Yes, that's in-engine (in-engine means it's done with game assets in our rendering engine, but isn't done real-time. If it was done in real-time, that'd be gameplay footage. This isn't something, for example, that was sent to some house [e.g. Blue Studios] so they could build assets and render it out, and create something for us to release [e.g. Dawn of War 40K intro cinematic]).
2) Yes, that's The Ink Spots singing "I Don't Want to Set the World On Fire"
3) Yes, that's Ron Perlman [voiceover man extraordinaire of Fallout 1 and 2].

So they did get Ron Pearlman, nice, I thought they would.

Seems pretty fallout'ish to me style wise. Like the suit of power armour at the end.

Favourite RPGs of all time: Wizardry 6, Ultima 7/7.2, Fallout2, Planescape Torment, Baldurs Gate 2+TOB, Jagged Alliance 2, Ravenloft: The stone prophet, Gothic 2, Realms of Arkania:Blade of destiny (not the HD version!!) and Secret of the Silver Blades.

But have they actually made a contract with Ron Pearlman or is it just the recording from the other Fallouts?

I haven't played the original for a while, but the intonation on this "War, war never changes" sounded different to me. So I guess they either pulled in Perlman again, or used a different take from the original recording sessions.

I am pretty sure any VA contract is only for one production. If they could use it for whatever then whats stopping them putting his voice on a fallout porno movie.

Pete Hines has graciously confirmed to DAC that the recording of Ron Perlman in the Fallout 3 Teaser Trailer is, in fact, brand new. He recorded it specifically for Bethesda.

Ah, nostalgia.. I actually remember seeing these things and hearing the music as a young dragonling growing up.. I'm sure the hype level on this is going to rise like a volcano before Fall of 2008, and I hope it's well deserved!

If they exclusively own the rights to the recording, they can do whatever they like with it.

What's there looks promising. But what's there is an intro movie, with no actual gameplay. That's fine for a teaser trailer, but I hope they remember to add the latter before it's released!

And what makes you think anyone would sign exclusive rights? When you sign a contract as an actor or voice actor you sign that your likeness/recordings can be used for a single product and in the advertising for that product, it is certainly not standard to permit someone to do whatever they fancy with your contribution. For the reason I mentioned above - they could put your voice/face in a porno or god knows what else!!

The product can of course be resold - but when it is resold it must be in what in the industry they call "close resemblance" to the original product. A good example of this is a remastered CD or movie. Using an extract (for example a flashback scene that features an actor) in a new song/game/movie is normally not permitted but if the company plans on making a sequel they would probably expressly work that into the agreement or make a completely new agreement.

Now if we talk about the use of Ron Pearlman's voice in this latest teaser, it uses only words that he has already said, in both Fallout 1&2, now we know in hindsight that it is a new recording (according to Pete), so that would probably mean they did not have exclusive rights, why would they want to get him to do a new recording if they could just use the old one?

Of course, that also raises the possibility that if they did have exclusive rights then why did they get a new recording done? They must then have a full recording of Ron Pearlmans voice for the new Fallout 3 intro - I wouldn't mind hearing that.

It seems that Bethesda was right when they spoke about doing everything they can to capture the "soul" of fallout.

I'm a little frustrated that they haven't indicated what kind of camera view the game will use yet. Will it be isometric? First person? Third person? I believe that this is the single biggest fact that fans are waiting to discover.

It's a nice intro movie. Apart from that it is as devoid of real information as I predicted. I am much more curious about the upcoming previews.

I'm a bit puzzled that the community is still even considering the possibility that it'd be isometric. I thought it was pretty clear from the start that it'd be 1st/3d person.

Then again, I'm also a bit puzzled that this seems to be a deal-maker/breaker for such a large part of the community. FO's greatness was not due to the camera angle or even the game mechanics; it was something quite beyond that. I for one didn't even *like* the isometric view — I was hunting for stuff that had fallen out of sight against the inside wall way too often; it was driving me nuts at times. I'm also quite certain that a team that is capable of producing a worthy sequel to the FO franchise in isometric/S.P.E.C.I.A.L. is capable of producing it in any other format that they understand well enough. What I'm not so sure about… OK, make that highly skeptical about, is whether Bethsoft is that team.

We alrady know it will look good, that's one hting Bethesda does right. The problem is they have zero interest in making challenging games anymore. I have no doubt that they will continue the trend of making their games easier and more "accessable".

I think it's fairly unlikely isometric is going to get a look in. Even though that wasn't in-game footage, it was using the game engine, which suggests to me it's either first- or third-person. Also, I think Bethesda have stated in the past they're going to "stick to what they know" as far as viewpoint goes.
