I never played LORD but I remember playing some fantasy BBS game where you were playing as a wizard travelling up some mountain. To proceed you had to answer trivia questions. This was in the mid to late 80's. The game may have been local to southern Indiana, though. To dial into LORD would have meant long distance from Newburgh, IN to Salem, OR and in those days that was a good way to get grounded.

I kind of wished they had talked about Dink Smallwood. I liked that game.
