Default Risen 3: Titan Lords - Demon Hunters Faction

July 18th, 2014, 09:22
Deep Silver & Piranha Bytes have released more information a new guild in Risen 3: Titan Lords called the Demon Hunters Faction. As usual here is the press release.

Dark Knights Steeped in Legend: Demon Hunters Faction Detailed in Risen 3: Titan Lords

Larkspur, Calif. – July 17, 2014 – Deep Silver and Piranha Bytes revealed details and a new look at the Demon Hunters in Risen 3: Titan Lords, the upcoming and anticipated role playing game, coming August 12 to PC, the Xbox 360 games and entertainment system from Microsoft and PlayStation®3 entertainment system. The Demon Hunters are one of three dynamic factions populating the world of Risen 3. Players will have to choose their allegiance, which will greatly impact the quests, skill sets, armor and overall experience in the open-world role-playing game.

Forsaken by the gods, the perilous world of Risen 3 stands on the brink of ruin, its peoples threatened by a mysterious menace from the darkness. But dark knights are regrouping, driven by ancient convictions and equipped with the best weapons and armor mankind has to offer: the Demon Hunters. At one time a dedicated and privileged cult, this reclusive sect has all but sunk into oblivion over the course of centuries.

Everyday, the decay of their citadel reminds the Demon Hunters of their negligence over the past decades. Eager for battle, now they face the dark menace, ready to revive the past and fight back the shadows with their mighty axes, hammers and swords. The time has come for them to restore the Bay of Iron and the massive citadel to their former glory and strike fear into the hearts of their enemies.

Will you side with the Demon Hunters? Explore this gorgeous handcrafted world, and choose your own fate when Risen 3 launches on PC, PlayStation®3 and Xbox 360 August 12.

Based on the wording, it sounds as if faction choice could have even bigger consequences than it usually does in PB games. Maybe it's just marketing speak, but it does sound interesting.

Moren than usually?
No it sounds just as important as it did with G1 and G2,
especially G1

Not really. It sounds as if you help the Demon Hunters build up their faction, which makes it sound as if the other factions have other goals and quests. In Gothic 1, the faction choice is mostly a matter of class/armor, as the main quest will progress in the same way regardless (go to the swamp camp, participate in the ritual and then take it from there).

Demon Hunters… That can summon "demons"?
LOL

Well… Since in DA:O you wanted to get rid of blood magic but still use it yourself…

I am bit dissapointed that there is not much media coverage for Risen 3, and if there is it seems to focus in Germany (they are currently the only ones provided with DRM free retail editions - and there are three types of these in Amazon.de).

I mentioned the same thing in a past forum thread myself. All the interviews and previews from the last year are only German, and alienate other areas.

I was told its due to the game selling well in the German market, and the rest of us are a small minority of the total sales. Here is the link to the forum topic.

What kind of logic are they using? How will you sell something on some market if you're leaving people there clueless about what it is?

It's like seeing Drakensang happening again. People who would kill someone for an opportunity to buy that game don't even know it exists.

I agree with this. If you compare the outside-of-Germany 'buzz' for Risen 2, there certainly is a noticeable amount of crickets for the pending release of R3.

But I also think PB has gotten very unfair press outside of Germany. Particularly with the American gaming press that is mostly impressed by shallow but pretty gameplay and looks down its collective nose at Euro RPG developers who try to create some truly interesting and deep gameplay though sometimes at the expense of clunky controls and not-so-state-of-the-art graphics.

If I had the time and inclination, I'd start a business that rates the press. There needs to be some kind of counterbalance to all the yahoos out there who are disinterested in doing a good job of reporting/reviewing while criticizing the works of developers who at least try to do their job right. I say this with particular emphasis to the American gaming press. I've been unimpressed by the American gaming press since about 1995 and they've gotten worse since then.

The only surprise with the American gaming press in all these years is their favorable view of D:OS which I believed before release of that game that they would heavily criticize since it's not an FPS, it doesn't have uber pretty graphics, and it doesn't hold your hand much. Usually the American gaming press has a fit when things like these are missing.

If I'm right but there is no wife around to acknowledge it, am I still right?

As much as I'm enjoying D:OS, PB makes the type of games I like to play. I'm really curious where R3 falls in the PB spectrum. Will it be vast open world like G3. Or faction specific like G1 and G2. Or Smaller scale world and factions like in R1 & R2. In a little less than a month, I'll find out.

I don't understand their nearly German-exclusive PR either. By publishing every interview, preview, teaser and trailer in English as well, you multiply the possible target audience.
It's not that you get access to North American or British market, but you might get attention for your came virtually all over the world, as most (?) of the gamers worldwide understand English to a certain degree.

And you get translations for English quite cheap, not to compare with Russian or Chinese.
