Playstation Lifestyle has a small preview of a new interview with CD Projekt RED about sex, and how the developer, "Makes Mature Games for Mature Players'"

If you’ve played past Witcher games or have read the books it’s based on, then chances are you’ve come across at least one scenario where sex was involved.

In our exclusive interview with CD Projekt RED, we mentioned to Level Designer Miles Tost that each entry in The Witcher game series contained some level of sexuality in them, which has stirred some controversy. What do they think of sexuality in gaming and how they’re approaching the subject in The Witcher 3?

"We make mature games, for mature players (every Witcher game is for adults only) and sex is, well, a part of adult life. The key thing is not to overdo it, not to sell your game with sex. As long as you remain tactful in what you do, as long as you have a legitimate reason to put sex in your game, I think it’s quite safe to do so."

In the same interview, Tost also mentioned that there’s “no plans” to re-release previous games in The Witcher franchise on PlayStation platforms.

How do you feel about sex in games? Should developers be allowed to put as much of it as they want in games or should it be used sparingly and not just for shock value?
More information.

I agree with Mr. Tost that the in-game sex is quite safe. I don't think it even has to be tactful or legitimate either. The characters should be allowed to have sex outside of marriage and have access to abortions if necessary.

Our Lord and Savior Bioware will see to that in the next Mass Effect™ game. Pre-order your copy on Origin now.

And once again not a single reply has anything to do with the point of the article. Well carry on everyone as I go drink my morning cup of coffee.:ahoy:

Does sex in games really still shock anyone ? ?
Let me rephrase that: Does sex really still have a shock value ? In media for adults ? Really ?

Anyway I'm all for sex in games but the line between appropriate for the story and gratuitous is pretty small.
Then again that never bothered anyone regards to violence.
And of course there also is a full 3D porn game industry for that kind of thing:p

Geralds is infertile and very resistant to disease, no need for protection either way:p.

Sex & The Witchy?

I dont know. Sex in games isn't really something that turns me on, more the opposite. It just makes me think that the 3D model i'm looking at is a sex fantasy created by some fat, ugly middle aged man, same with the sex theme itself, its just some other guys sex fantasy. Yuck.

There's a really funny episode of Louie where one of the guys admits that since a kid he has been jerking off to stick figures, that he draws himself. I guess it's not really on that level, but almost. It's rather difficult for me to comprehend how it can be sexually exciting in any way.

I'm not sure why it's a problem that a fat middle-aged man created your sex fantasy. I'm pretty sure a lot of the best material is made by people who're not physically attractive - and if you're reading a book and you get turned on by what's on the page, how's that different?

I don't know why so many people scream TEENAGE SEX FANTASY everytime they see a naked 3D model on screen, but I guess it's the trendy response.

Personally, I like to look at these things in context - and if the writing is good and the situation is appropriate, I can easily be turned on or at least appreciate what's happening.

The first Witcher game had awkward moments, mostly because of what I assume were translation issues and an engine that was not suited for portraying realistic models. But I don't think it was particularly immature - it was just the execution that lagged behind a bit.

The second game was much better, and I was certainly attracted to Triss - real or not. I couldn't care less who made her come to life.

Inside we all share the same needs and desires - and the most powerful sexual organ is the brain.

Not being turned on by something attractive because the creator is not attractive is a very strange position, but whatever floats your boat.

In Europe it doesn't. What about the US?

@DArtagnan:

The attractiveness had little to do with it, it was mainly to emphasize that other mens cliché sex fantasies is not something that turns me on at all, and yes i know i'm in the minority here, i have no problem with that :)

I'm not sure what you mean by cliché sex fantasy. Are you saying that beautiful naked women don't turn you on, or?

I'm curious, honestly, what's so cliché about Triss and Geralt?

Apart from, you know, a man and a woman in love.

No, it's the idea that it's some other dudes sex fantasy, even the 3D model or the drawing (if a comic) is some other dudes creation. Would i get turned on if i was modelling a nude female 3D model (or drawing a nude female stick figure, for that matter), no i wouldnt.

It's also not organic enough to enjoy sexually (graphically speaking). I also don't enjoy fake boobs that much. Again i know i'm in the minority and people are differnt (i know you dont believe it but we are), you're free to enjoy, or not enoy, what you want.

I'm trying hard to understand your position, but it's not easy.

I don't think many gamers enjoy games "sexually" as such, and I'm simply talking about being attracted to beautiful 3D women.

But ok, you don't think women can be attractive when they're created by another man, I'll have to accept that's possible for a heterosexual male.

If a hot woman had created Triss, that would be different?

You didn't explain the cliché part, but that's ok.

Thanks for sharing ;)

No you weren't only talking about just attractivness of female 3D models, go back and read your own posts.

I guess i dont really mind sex in games, i just find that it's neither sexually exciting and often not necessary for the story itself. It can often be rather hilarious if the animations are especially crappy, games really doesnt do a good job when they're trying to do more advanced interactions between characters (even characters kissing and/or hugging often looks very lame with the obvious clippings, stiff and unorganic animations etc), i'd prefer if they'd leave it alone until the technology catches up ;)

No, but that's the part you were responding to, wasn't it :)

Ok, so it's not really because a dude has created most of it - it's because technology is not good enough for you to be attracted to it?

Slightly confusing.

But whatever, I think I got what I needed.

Back on topic :)

Shrug, I find Triss 3D Model hot, especially the playboy one :p.
3D Rendering has actually come quite a long way, Real time rendering still has it's limitations though.

Then again I'll never understand other things people are attracted to though(like feet ie.):p.
Whatever floats someones boat.

I think the scenes with Triss were pretty well done in TW2, and the cards in TW1 were pretty nice too.
The random sex scenes in TW2 were rather meh but okish.
On the other hand DA:O was bad IMO, they should just have faded to black on that lol.

DArtagnan,
Separate things (execution and tech) and answers.

Thorwyn99: fading to black is sexy ;) as in fantasizing without having someone showing it down your throat (with hilarious, more than "sexy", animations).

Seriously?
I still remember the underground bath scene. In fact from all games with "sex scenes" I remember only that one. And if it matters, I would want to experience exactly that in RL. Sadly, I can't find a proper similar scenery.

That's hardly just meh or okish.
