IWD's problem is that it's just not memorable. I can't remember a single character from it, not one. BG and even more so BG2 were filled with memorable characters. Minsc (and Boo!) is probably one of the most memorable characters from any RPG.

I love Arcanum, but think that some of the balancing issues would put it into the next tier, perhaps.

A lot of Arcanum waws either way over the top power wise (magic) or almost useless (ranged everything). That showed either a serious lack of effort in design or testing. The Arcanum world and story was cool but the game system was just broken.

While Arcanum was a little unbalanced, the pressure to release it before balancing was complete is primarily to blame. ALL of us wanted to get our hands on it!!

If God said it, then that settles it!!
