Stop the presses!
Before you lambast me for the silly newsbit title, I ripped it straight from Games Radar, who are obviously very excited about this Mass Effect news:
Before you lambast me for the silly newsbit title, I ripped it straight from Games Radar, who are obviously very excited about this Mass Effect news:
The BBFC's rating of Mass Effect has revealed new and tantalising plot details from the BioWare RPG, including the revelation that one hot alien sex scene contributes to its angsty 12 rating. The BBFC is a UK-specific ratings board that dictates what content minors are able to see and is the primary film ratings board. North America's ESRB has already rated the game M for Blood, Sexual Themes, Violence and Partial Nudity.More information.
"The game has been classified at '12' for moderate violence and one sex scene," reads the BBFC rating. "The sex scene is triggered by the player making a series of choices about becoming more than friends with a colleague. If playing as a male character the scene can take place between him and a human woman or a humanoid female alien.

GamesRadar is rated "I" for immature based on their reaction … every time we think that we have transcended the image of gamers as just looking for digital boobies …

Okay, I'll bite. How does sex between a male character and either a human woman or a humanoid female alien equate to lesbianism?

The article cited goes on to say the same situation can happen if you're playing as a female. Regardless, Bioware did something similar to this back in KOTOR, if you had a female character. It wasn't a big deal deal or anything, just dialog between the characters that let you know a relationship was forming.

This is perhaps the funniest newsbit title yet on RPGWatch!
"Lesbian sex CONFIRMED" — LOL. I loved the emphasis on "confirmed"!!!!
EDIT - I know you copied it verbatim, Dhruin. Doesn't make it any less funny seeing it here on the 'Watch.

So you get to Save the World AND Have sex with Aliens! Now this is just getting better and better. Reminds me of one high school scifi book where the male-character saved the world (or did he? cant remember) and had sex with a tiger (female humanoid one that is).

The classification goes on to state: "If playing as a male character the scene can take place between him and a human woman or a humanoid female alien. If playing as a female character the scene can take place between her and a male human or a female humanoid alien."That's pretty darn lesbian!
And unless extremely well executed, this smells of the same low gimmicky quality that pervades the collar-grabbing, extreme, gun-pointing nature of this cheap-ass excuse of a game.
Just sayin'

I believe it depends on how EXTREME you've played up until then. If you played Commander Shepard like the COLLARGRABBING BADASS that he is, the women will have an EXTREME amount of breasts (8)..Well, that would certainly be IMMERSIVE.

To quote another character in Mass Effect, "You ask me, boys need a cold shower that lasts from age 12 to 25."

If I'm reading that article correctly, the "female alien" in question is the horse-faced, bug-eyed thing pictured. I don't think that will get many boys excited, even if there are boobies involved.
On the other hand, if it's the bald blue babe we keep seeing in all of the movies, that'd be different — after all, Star Trek taught us long ago that blue babes are shagworthy.
I'm reading this as Bioware finally took to heart all the complaints about KoTOR and all the unrequited desires of fans to play shag-the-furry with Juhani.

Why kill the messenger? GamesRadar didn't include sex scenes full of lawnmowing into a game they made. If you want that image to be transencded it would make more sense to put the pressure on the people making the games filled with the stuff that gets you mad, or using that stuff as covers and/or selling points. If the press covers it that must denote an interest in it, that denotes the buyers of games being people who like digital boobies. So gamers have to mature or developers need to stop adding in the digital boobies to sell more games. Either way, GamesRadar didn't do anything but report on it.

"The single sex scene is brief and undetailed, although there is breast nudity in one version of the scene."
This is the BBFC's statement from here:
http://www.bbfc.org.uk/website/Class…F?OpenDocument
As I recall, Chris Priestly mentioned on the Boware ME forums that there would be a discrete love scene between say Ashley and Shepard. And that it is the version of this scene, you can see a dimmed outlined profiled of a breast or possible a full breast. You won't be seeing any Liara (asari) nipples in this game. Who is to say that the asari have their breasts in the same place as human women do?? Also, the asari are sort of a asexual, or at least they are, if you look at it in human terms.
From what I've seen the sex scene is more a discrete love scene. So there will be no porn images shown in Mass Effect. (there are other places to look for this sort of think on the internet).
Anyway, this just confirms (again) that Europe (or some parts of Europe) are more mildly towards sex than the US is, no matter how much Mr. Priestly try to say this is socio-political bias.
