So far, we couldn't agree on a set of ranks we all liked… meaning that the Watch is stuck with the default ranks unless we find the magical formula. Just go ahead and propose a list of ranks if you want to - perhaps it's THE list we've been looking for all along!

How about borrowing from the old AD&D rules and using titles from one of the classes… example: Thief titles by level
1 Apprentice
2 Footpad
3 Robber
4 Burglar
5 Cutpurse
6 Sharper
7 Pilferer
8 Thief
9 Master Thief
1 Apprentice
2 Footpad
3 Robber
4 Burglar
5 Cutpurse
6 Sharper
7 Pilferer
8 Thief
9 Master Thief

Look at the ranks of Larian, I think they're quite good.
They have ranks for almost each class …
Druids, Vampires, for example …

Fighter

Monk
Thief
There were probably a couple more, but that's all I remember off the top of my head. I will try to put up the complete list of titles for each class later tonight (if I'm not at work all night… working on a program that's got to get done)…

Why not just remove ranks entirely? And the post counter on every post, while we're at it.

Mainly because most people actually like having them!!

Yep, I'd go with the bard list, too. After that, probably the paladin list. Although my personal favorites are the monk and assassin titles, those probably aren't appropriate.

Magic-User or illusionist list would be my choices. I didn't know it was so hard to come up with names for druids. AD&D guys must of run out of imagination when it came to the druids.

The Paladin ranks are pretty good for a message board, though I like the Thief titles the best.

You know the very powerful and the very stupid have one thing in common. They don't alter their views to fit the facts, they alter the facts to fit their views, which can be uncomfortable if you happen to be one of the facts that needs altering.
