Innovative Roguelike RPGs @ Philosophical Gamer

Bit of a different item with this one. The Philosophical Gamer takes a look at Obscure, Innovative Roguelike RPGs. Titles like Dwarf Fortress and UnReal World - plus more unknown ones - are covered, so it's more about unusual games that use a roguelike base. On UnReal World:
Set in ancient Finland during the iron age, this roguelike is essentially a survival game. You have many choices in starting a game, from starting off in a bustling village with people to trade with, to starting wounded and out in the wilderness with very few supplies. This game is as deep as any game could be, and takes a bit of getting used to for some, but once you get into it, it can be very engrossing and a whole lot of fun.More information.
The demo allows you to play one character for up to 10 in-game days, but the full version is only $3. This one has been around for awhile, so its development is quite far along. Version 3.11 is expected to be released soon, so they are continuing to develop the game.
If you enjoy a challenging, deep game, this is a great choice. Top shelf roguelike.

If you must play an indie game from Finland, play Helherron.

A good point - I'm more into party-based RPGs than roguelikes myself, and am planning a post on Helherron and other obscure party-based RPGs in the next week or so. Stay tuned! Hopefully the folks here will find it useful, this site is definitely one of the meccas of old school RPGs.
