Battle for Wesnoth really slow load
August 31st, 2009, 22:07
I know I'm supposed to post this in the BfW forum, and I did. I was hoping for a quick response here.
First my computer specs:
Operating System: Windows Vista™ Home Premium (6.0, Build 6001) Service Pack 1 (6001.vistasp1_gdr.090302-1506)
Language: English (Regional Setting: English)
System Manufacturer: TOSHIBA
System Model: Satellite A200
BIOS: Ver 1.00PARTTBL0
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) Duo CPU T2450 @ 2.00GHz (2 CPUs), ~2.0GHz
Memory: 2046MB RAM
Card name: NVIDIA GeForce Go 7300
Manufacturer: NVIDIA
Chip type: GeForce Go 7300
DAC type: Integrated RAMDAC
Device Key: Enum\PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_01D7&SUBSYS_FF021179&REV_A1
Display Memory: 333 MB
Dedicated Memory: 61 MB
Shared Memory: 271 MB
Current Mode: 1280 x 800 (32 bit) (60Hz)
So, I would think my computer should be able to handle BfW without a problem…
However whenever I start a game, meaning loading a map, be it a saved game or a new one, single and/or multiplayer, it takes minutes (which is ages in multiplayer).
People usually think I'm gone or disconnected. Does anyone have any idea why this might be.
I'm playing version 1.6.4
Thanks everyone/anyone.
EDIT: Also a quick question: Does this mean I only have 61MB of graphics memory ?

Sorry I read that too fast, it could be a problem with your graphic card or maybe vista.. did you try to run in comp. mode of windows XP ??

hmmm, maybe you could experiment with the settings in the options menu ? try to run in windowed mode etc etc ? you could also try to give the process high priority/more rights in vista.

Maybe turning one of both cores off during the game ?
You can assign only one core to it somehow from within the task manager.

Like Alrik said, something that works with old games is assigning only one core to the process. To do this, do Ctrl-Alt-Del and bring the Task manager. Under 'processes' find the one for the game, right click on it, set affinity and deselect all but one CPU. If this works you'll need to do this every time you run the game.
