Let's search around a bit. Heading to the west.

A grate in a natural cavern. There isn't anything suspicious about that :-) Let's try just walking across. It's only a grate after all.

Hey!!! Stop that. That tickles.

Get your stinking tentacles off me you damn dirty ……ummm….whatever you are.

Excuse me, monster thingy. My body can't fit into those tiny holes down there. If you want a date all you had to do was ask.

I've got a splitting headache. *bu-dum-dum-ching*

Despite all my rage.

And once again our hapless hero dies in the most disgusting way possible.

Reload
Let's try that again. This time maybe we should stay away from walking directly across the grate.

Let's 'look room' to see what's going on here.

That told us nothing. Let's try hugging the wall this time. Maybe the tentacle monster can't get us there.

And we're across. Whew!! That thing must be really lonely down there to want Roger that badly.

I'll skip past the screenshot of looking at the geyser. It took me forever to figure out how to get past this area when I was 10. Now you know that the answer has something to do with the geyser, but the game gives no clue as to what to do with it (other than the steam puffing out of it ;-)

After trying to put everything in my inventory on it, I tried 'pick up rock' and what do you know? It worked :-) (They used that little command in all the Quest for Glory games. You could practice your throwing skill with rocks instead of throwing daggers and picking them up off the ground. I think I'll have to show you that in the next LP of Quest for Glory)

So now we have a rock. Let's try 'put rock on geyser'

WooHoo. It worked and it opened a secret door. Who needs a silly lock or doorknob when all you need is a geyser :-)

Despite all my rage.

We'll stop here for now.

So let's recap. We escaped the ship that was being attacked by aliens. Crash landed on a desert planet, been blown up, eaten TWICE, used a boulder to destroy a spider droid, found a lift between two strange rocks and just opened a secret door using a rock. God I love this game

Past Orat yet? A friend had this crazy drive a couple of years back in which everything was about Orat.

Mankind must put an end to war or war will put an end to mankind. - John F Kennedy
An eye for an eye, and soon the whole world is blind. - Mahatma Gandhi
The world is my country. To do good is my religion. My mind is my own church. This simple creed is all we need to enjoy peace on earth. - Thomas Paine

This will be a short update, but I'll try to get us out of the cavern before I call it a day.

Last we left Roger Wilco he just put a rock on the geyser and opened up the secret door. Now let's head through the door.

Cool, a purple pool. Let's take a look around.

That didn't tell us much other than there is a path somewhere around here. Let's take a closer look at that pool.

A soothing pool of a strange purple liquid. If I was playing Ultima, M&M or Wizardry I would try to drink from this magical pool. However this is Space Quest. One thing I learned is to never trust any kind of strange liquid :-)

So let's try to find this path the narrator was talking about.

It's back here somewhere.

Found it!
Great another high tech gadget in a low tech cavern.

Taking a closer look at this room.

They're just beams. Let's try the easiest solution and walk right through them.

That didn't work out quite as I hoped.
Rewind.
Let's try look at the beams this time.

That wasn't helpful at all.
Let's try looking at the units the beams are coming out of.

Once again, not helpful in the least.
I'll skip over trying to throw a rock at the units, climb over the units, kick the units, smash them with your helmet and a few other thousands things I tried the first time I played this game.
Let's take a look at our inventory. Maybe there is something there that can help.

Hmm, glass??? Remember when I told you about how frustrating a puzzle was if you didn't have the glass from the escape pod. Well, welcome to a 10 year olds hell. I tried everything to get past this area and never had a clue that I needed an object from the escape pod that I never got because I never looked at the escape pod from the front.

Let's put the glass between the beams and see what happens. *A little sidenote I tried many combinations of 'use glass between beams' to no avail. The parser just wanted you to type 'use glass' and you had to be in the right place when you typed it to get it to work.

Let's get out of here.

We're back in the room with the pool. Let's take a look at those drops coming down from the ceiling. I don't like how the ground looks underneath them.

Nothing omnious about that, so let's try to go to the next room.

Didn't get too far. Seems like those little drops are acually acid and not harmless purple magical water. Good thing my RPG instincts didn't kick in when I was near the pool :-)

This next part was a real pain before Doxbox. I tried replaying Space Quest before and the computers were too fast during this part of the game (and during the spider droid part where you had to drop the boulder on it) But thanks to Dosbox this can be played just like it was back in the 80's. The drops aren't coming down at the speed of light.

So let's get past the drops and into the next room.

Alright we're past the raining droplets of death. Onto the next area.

Despite all my rage.

Great it's not the giant head of Brian Williams. It's a Jar Jar Binks wannabe.

SPEAK ENGLISH YOU'RE IN AMERICA…..Oh wait, no you're not. Sorry, that was my old republican knee jerk reation to foreign languages ;-)

Dude, buy a clue. It doesn't matter how much you talk or how loud you talk. I STILL DON'T UNDERSTAND!!!

I guess he doesn't like foreigners. I wonder if he watches Fox News?

Rewind.
Let's look at the inventory before we head into the room this time.

That gadget has to do something. Let's take a closer look at it.

Well that explains a lot and I got a cool picture of the gadget (that's high tech graphics there folks :-) Well let's turn this puppy on and head on back into the room.

I wouldn't nessarily call a pitch black room a 'hallowed chamber'.

Couldn't you just say up sh*t creek without a paddle (this is pg-13 folks. No bad words allowed ;-)

Duh!!

I'm not worthy *bow* I'm not worthy *bow*

Let me get this straight. You guys are a high tech civilization of giant heads and you can't take care of some little creature called an Orat? Reminds me of the Tollans from Stargate SG-1 and we all know what happened to them :-)

We're kicked out again. Time to find this Orat thing.

That bridge is getting more cracks in it. Me thinks it won't be long till it's gone.

Back to the ramp. I want to check out that hole we saw on the cliff earlier.

Once again Roger Wilco is some strange aliens lunch. That happens a lot.

Rewind.
Back to the ramp. Let's avoid that hole like the plague and try searching another area.

Let's take a look around. Those EGA graphics can be confusing sometimes, but I do believe that looks like a cave to the right.

Yep, definatly a cave and our best bet to finding Orat. We better check out our survival kit before heading in there. If the giant heads can't take care of this guy hopefully a janitor with a survival kit can.

Question: What the heck is dehydrated water and what would that taste like?

I guess now would be a good time to find out.

Ahhh that hit the spot. Tastes like feet.

Alrighty then, since we are all hydrated, let's check out that cave.

AHHHH, RUNNN. It's Roger Clemens. No wonder the giant heads are scared of him. Roger Clemens noggin is bigger than all of theirs combined.

Before I run like a little girl, let's take a look around. Maybe when I come back there will be something I can use.

I LOOKED TOO LONG!!!

I was wrong it's not Roger. It's Dennis Rodman and he misses playing basketball.

So we've been eaten, fried, blown up and now squished into a basketball. What's in store for our bumbling janitor next I wonder? Tune in tomorrow. Same mop time. Same mop channel.

Rewind…

Time to get this Orat guy or thing or…well whatever it is.
What do we know about it? Well, it's big, ugly and mean. Probably hungry too. Let's try feeding him some of this delicious dehydrated water.

Mmmmm, yummy yum. Feet flavored dehydrated water.

Uh oh. It doesn't look like the water agrees with him.

And just like that the mighty janitor has slayed the beast with his quick thinking and quicker reflexes. Well, maybe there was a little luck involved and the water happened to be in his hand at the time and maybe he just threw it at him hoping it would slow him down…But still a great victory for janitors everywhere :-)

We need to find some kind of proof that we killed Orat or the giant heads won't believe us.

How about a piece of the big guy. I don't want to know what piece that is.

Ewwwww.

I'll save you the screenshots of back tracking back to the room with the giant head. The only incident on the way back was more cracks in the bridge, but it held.

Now we're back to the giant head.

Thanks, I think.

So untrusting these giant heads. Let's get rid of that piece of Orat and maybe he'll give us a ship off of this world.

Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain.

Woooh. Hey, you don't have giant heads! No wonder you needed my help.

Cautious? More like homicidal. YOU SENT ME ON A SUICIDE MISSION!!!

For all our troubles he presents a Skimmer to us. Not a space ship a SKIMMER!

So now we know the name of the purple worm. Great, maybe we can ask it out on a date sometime.

Uh huh and what happened to real transportation. You didn't say anything about giving us a taxi to the closest settlement.
