The first beta stage started last Oct. The title should be "the first beta stage finished this week".

I looked at their "beta" but it wasn't even close to a true "beta". Beta testing is supposed to be when you have a mostly finished product and are trying to work out the kinks.

Yes, well, that's the "literal" use of beta, but it's been scrambled past recognition for many years. Now, alpha testing is pretty much what you do in your house when the project compiles and you try to run it. This lasts about a month or so regardless of how much you change the code. Then it's closed beta, which lasts 2 or 3 months, it's supposed to be where you fix bugs, but in reality it's when most of the work is done. Then you have open beta, which is really just a 'less closed' beta, in theory you're just 'load balancing' and verifying it runs in all platforms, but in truth, it's when you make stupid changes that destroy everything you did before. And then you release it.
