KB: Warriors of the North - Ice and Fire Review

by Couchpotato, 05:23

I managed to find one review for King’s Bounty: Warriors of the North – Ice and Fire from a site called Goty.ro. I'm sorry as this is all I could find for a member request.

Now comes one of the most important aspects of Ice and Fire. There is a Creature Skill System which provides your army with the possibility to gain experience as long as you take action during a fight with that type of unit, by attacking or using skills. There are 10 levels available for each unit, and every level provides that unit with certain points which define their role. Some examples would be: Attack, Defense, Resistance, Critical Hit, Runes, etc. Have in mind the fact that Ice and Fire brings along another 20 new creatures, many of the ones you already know have been reworked and you will have the "pleasure" of meeting the Snow Elves and Necro-Lizardmen.

We are looking for someone to review the game. Check our forums if your interested.

KB: Warriors of the North - Review @ Aesthetic Magazine

by Myrthos, 12:43

Aesthetic Magaxine reviewed King's Bounty: Warriors of the North and awarded it with 4.5 stars.

It is a short review, so I'll keep the quote short as well.

King’s Bounty: Warriors of the North is the largest and most expansive title in the King’s Bounty series while bringing the series to new heights. It is beautiful mix of turn based strategy and role-playing which immerses the player in a fantastical world of battles and intrigue. Highly recommended to both fans of the series and those who enjoy a good strategy game or RPG.

KB: Warriors of the North - More Reviews

by Myrthos, 00:49

Here are 3 more recent reviews of Kings Bounty: Warrior of the North.

  • Just Press Start
KB:WotN is a deliberately paced game, so don’t go into it expecting to blaze through the plot in a matter of hours.  There are times where I wish things moved a bit faster, but that’s probably because I was simply eager to see what happened next.  There is a LOT to do and see in this title, so the $30 asking price seems justified.  The issues mentioned above do warrant a more guarded recommendation, though.  Overall, if you’re looking for some epic questing with a Viking theme, Endoria is where you belong.
  • Phenom Inc Game Informer
Outside of the tightly constrained availability of troops and prevalence of undead enemies in the first third of the game, this is easily the best King’s Bounty to date. Something is going to have to change eventually, and the legacy issues like boss fights and recruitment tedium get less acceptable every year, but I’m still having a blast with Warriors of the North. Whether you’re new to the series or a 300-hour veteran, there’s much to recommend here. I just hope I’m not writing these same things next year.

  • RPGFan, 68%
Repetition and game-breaking bugs cannot be excused. While I understand that some bugs just slip by and patches will likely rectify issues like the one I experienced, this is what separates top-notch games from the rest. On top of that, why am I still starting the game with spiders, snakes, and thieves? What has changed besides the skin on the models or even the palette? Why is the first boss a spider? I conclude with questions only because I do not understand the lackluster design decisions. Then again, "decisions" implies that thought went into the game.

KB: Warriors of the North - Review @ Hooked Gamer

by Myrthos, 22:09

Rating with a score of 7.8, Hooked Gamer checks out Kings Bounty: Warriors of the North.

Not much of what I have written so far will be much of a surprise to fans of the series. It is most certainly an evolution rather than a revolution, but that is not a bad thing at all. When I talked to the developers at Gamescom this year, they mentioned that one of their playtesters had a game which had lasted 80 hours, and he still had not finished it. It is very easy to see people putting a lot of time into King’s Bounty: Warriors of the North. The early part of the game lacks variety, with limited troops at your disposal and repetitive combat against an AI which is not actually that intelligent. New players may be put off by that. However if all you want is more King’s Bounty after playing the previous games in the series, then that is certainly what you will get.

KB: Warriors of the North - 2 More Reviews

by Myrthos, 23:47

Here are 2 more reviews for King's Bounty: Warriors of the North.

  • Geek.com
Warriors of the North‘s it’s-not-broken-so-why-fix-it approach will be more than fine with some gamers while it will be frustrating to others. Personally I’m satisfied with a new game that’s limited to new characters and the shift from a baby dragon summon to a Valkyrie, but I wish some progress could be made on other fronts. For example, the battle animations still take much too long, even when set to High. Trust me — after you’ve seen the Viking’s cheer 100 or so times, you’re ready to either turn off animations (not an option) or have them play back even faster than they do on High. The game simply takes too long, so cutting down on animation time would help things progress.

  • Rock, Paper, Shotgun
It’s fine! It should be a £10 expansion pack rather than a £25 expandalone, and as such I can’t in good conscience recommend Warriors of the North over picking up King’s Bounty: The Legend or Crossworlds for far less. It is more finely-balanced, it is free of the slightly grating cutsiness of Armoured Princess and being a big, tough, hairy viking on a flying pony (a quickly-obtained alternate means of navigating around the large overland maps) is a constant delight. So, for this year, I guess I’m okay with another pair of slippers and another series of the Great British Bake-Off. Next year I want Doc Martens and a chilli competition, though.

KB: Warriors of the North - Review Roundup

by Myrthos, 23:02

Here is a small collection of 3 reviews of Kings Bounty: Warrios of the North.

  • IndieGameReviewer, 4/5
I admit to looking down my nose at the King’s Bounty series before playing it. There was a certain element of 80s metal album artwork that I found worrying. It had the feel of something made by people who were too close and too enthralled with their own work to do any quality control. It looked a little like an inside joke. It turns out that it’s more like the kind of fun that you have when you don’t worry about who’s watching, like playing with Legos or singing in your car. But, on top of that, it’s a really, really good game. So it’s like playing with Legos and making a scale model of the Eiffel Tower, or a professional opera singer singing in the car.
  • Die Hard Gamefan, Great game
For those new or those that have followed the KB franchise since the 90s, King’s Bounty: Warriors of the North is a must have. Its hexagonal turn based combat coupled with the strategy and tactics needed to quell hordes of undead have raised it up my list of fleshed out titles. With the variety of options, difficulties, and army diversity available, it will suck hours, days, weeks of your life away with blissful memories.
  • That Videogame Blog, 7.5
At $29.99, King’s Bounty: Warriors of the North is a fun tactical romp through the land of Endoria, but suffers from some predictably repetitive elements and annoyances that keep it from being a really great game.

KB: Warriors of the North - Preview @ Strategy Informer

by Myrthos, 12:30

Strategy Informer checked out Kings Bounty: Warriors of the North and are positive with some remarks.

It’s an incredibly detailed and satisfying combat system, which makes your choice of class all the more important. The warrior Viking brings melee bonuses and a measure of rage-filled leadership, the Paladin-like Skald’s charisma can draw more units to his banner and resurrect casualties, while the Soothsayer makes up for his relative lack of forces with devastating magic options. The problem, as fans of the previous games will be all too familiar with, is that the entire combat portion of the game remains woefully unbalanced.

With no visual indication of the enemy composition when roaming the environment, the player can never predict whether the ensuing battle is going to be a genuine test of their tactical wits, or a lop-sided affair that sees them eliminate the opposition in a handful of turns or get their backsides handed to them by a random, obscenely over-powered unit in the enemy ranks. With the punishment for defeat being a return to your stronghold and the loss of all your precious forces, requiring you to build them back up from scratch, the game can quickly descend into an exercise in toe-curling frustration.

It’s a shame, because the additions Katauri Interactive have made for Warriors of the North, if not game-changing, encourage experimentation to use to their full potential. Between the elaborate threefold skill tree, the new Rune Magic school - packed with suitably ice-themed attacks - and in particular the Valkyrie companions there’s a lot for any fan of tactical turn-based play to get their teeth into.

KB: Warriors of the North - Preview @ Hooked Gamers

by Aries100, 22:30

Hooked Gamers has a preview for this game, presented to them at GamesCom 2012.
A quote about the Valkyries:

Those attractive Valkyries mentioned earlier provide powerful abilities on the battlefield, and all five of them will help the new Olaf defeat his enemies. Each one has a separate power, so Olaf will have to collect them all to do well. Another new addition is rune magic, which the Viking, the new race, uses to great effect. The Viking is a tank, an excellent warrior and has the best rage abilities in the game available to him.

KB: Warriors of the North - Preview @ Worthplaying

by Dhruin, 20:51

Worthplaying takes a short look at Kings Bounty: Warriors of the North.

This time around, you play as Olaf, a new hero who is a Viking. This new race brings with it a new area as well as a new school of magic known as Rune magic. The story has Olaf defending the world of Endoria against a relentless attack by the undead armies. Players will get to experience the frozen tundra of the Northern Lands as well as return to the heart of the kingdom, the land of Darion.

Fans of the series will recognize Darion as the location of The Legend. Returning to a familiar location was intentional, as a generation has passed in the timeline of the games. The developers wanted to give players the chance to see how things have changed over the years, but it's not just superficial. The demo team from 1C wouldn't go into a whole lot of detail; however, they did promise that the new story line ties in closely with the characters from the previous games.

The island mechanic from Armored Princess is returning, along with new ships for players to use. One new ship type mentioned during our demo is the longboat. Land travel is done by horse, but if your horse earns enough XP, it can sprout wings and turn into a Pegasus. Using the Pegasus gives you the ability to fly.
