Vigilantes - Upcoming Changes
A video has been made available that shows the upcoming changes in the next version of Vigilantes, like these combat changes:
- Less, relatively more powerful enemies in combat. Currently there can be up to 20 characters in combat. The result is long turns, with many enemies getting to act between your characters' turns.
- Less stat points. The current system of one stat point every level was created with quickly building test characters in mind. With less enemies, the player team must be balanced in relation to the opposing force. The ability to build stat increasing facilities will recoup some of these "lost" stat points.
- Ally skill points. You will now get some skill points to allocate for your allies, providing better control over their development.
- Less perk points, but more powerful perks. Underpowered perks is an other issue brought up by testers. We feel less perk points which unlock more powerful perks would be beneficial.

Empyre: Lords of the Sea Gates - Announced
The developer Coin Operated Games announced their new RPG today:
Empyre: Lords of the Sea Gates is a top-down isometric RPG that takes place in a Neo-Victorian New York circa 1911.loading...
Featuring a top-down isometric presentation, Empyre: Lords of the Sea Gates will rekindle old-school PC RPG fans with feelings of some of the classic story driven RPGs of the 90s. While the combat should feel familiar to veteran players, there’s a new twist in that the game uses a hybrid Real Time/Turn-based System. Players can enter a “Planning Mode” where they choose actions for each character in their party while combat is paused, and when entering into the “Action Mode” all characters will perform simultaneously, giving players complete control over their party while presenting a streamlined combat system that eliminates waiting for each character to act in sequence.
Empyre: Lords of the Sea Gates is the story of an alternate New York in which the entire city is flooded by rising oceans and the citizens must learn to live in a new reality where there is water everywhere, but none of it possible to drink. The player must make their way in search of a fresh water supply source, picking up companions along the journey. But the trip won’t be easy, as there are many threats both human and inhuman that players will encounter.
“One of the things we strove for when designing Empyre is authenticity during an ‘Age of Technical Wonder’ in the United States, the Gilded Age,” said John Randall, Creative Director of Empyre. “For example, the New York City we all know is the city in this game, and history buffs will recognize many iconic locations that existed in the city during the 1910s, but with a unique, waterlogged twist. People and society exist and act as they did in the early 20th Century. We feel this level of detail will give players a one-of-a-kind experience that they haven’t seen anywhere before.”
Empyre: Lords of the Sea Gates pays homage to historic accounts by adding authentic items such as patent medicines including poisons or tonics made from dangerous ingredients. Many of the games’ objectives and side quests will tie directly into the experiences that someone in the 19th century would have. The game’s authenticity reflects scenes from New York during the 1900s, while tying the storyline to current day themes such as global warming and the rising of the oceans.

Brigand: Oaxaca - Released on Steam
The FPS/RPG hybrid Brigand: Oaxaca launched on Steam:
It is finally up. Please buy my game and help me support my many addictions.
I am planning to release an update in about 2 weeks that will include the world editor, higher resolution options, and hopefully any bug fixes that you report to me.
I'm confident that there are no bugs left in the core engine. However, there may be some mistakes remaining in the game scripts, but those are easy to fix as they are just text files -- it won't require a new compile and it won't require you to start a new game. Please don't hesitate to send me any bugs you find.
Brigand: Oaxaca is a highly difficult post-apocalyptic RPG/FPS set in Mexico. The story will take you from a banana plantation to dark toxic caverns, to the sprawling city of Pochutla, to the flooded coastline, to deadly demon-infested jungles, and more.
There are 14 unique skills to upgrade with skill points, ranging from agility to firearms, hacking, hardware, voodoo. Unlock up to 80 special abilities that allow you to do things such as throw your weapon, upgrade your guns, and control the weather.
Dangers include rival tribes fighting for fertile land, mutated ghouls that emerge from their caverns at night, vicious demons that hunger for your flesh, a flooded and irradiated coastline that eats away at civilization, disease, insanity, and hunger.
You will die often, and you will like it.
- Branching story with dynamic characters, dialogue trees, and multiple endings
- Total freedom of movement and action: jump from roof to roof, steal things, blow things up, or murder friendly characters (if that's your thing)
- Extensive character customization with 14 skills to upgrade and over 80 abilities to unlock, ranging from firearms to crafting, hacking, and voodoo
- Crafting system largely based on the Anarchist's Cookbook: make various grenades from empty beer cans and the proper chems, etc.
- Explore a vast region of Oaxaca, taking you from a banana plantation, into toxic caverns, bustling cities, disease-ridden jungles, and a flooded coastline

Kingmaker - Goblin Companion Funded

Goblin companion joins the party!
Posted by Oleg
OMG! It is almost unbelievable - you made it!
You helped Nok-Nok find new friends and make his first and very important step in becoming the Fifth Goblin Hero!
We are so...so...filled... with emotions that it almost impossible to express our thanks by mere words:
It will be our pleasure to work on the companion from the race that Pathfinder made so unique and so delightfully twisted. Their imagery became somewhat iconic to the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game and Golarion. But there is another outstanding image, or should we say, the order in the Inner Sea that also became synonymous with the Pathfinder. Yes, we are speaking of they who are the weapons of desperate times and soldiers with the force of will to do whatever must be done. They are intimidation, relentlessness, and unwavering conviction. They are the black-gauntleted fist of absolute order. They are the Hellknights!
For far too long the Stolen Lands were the den of thieves and murderers, sanctuary for those who ran from the Law, home of the chaotic and capricious fey, the embodiment of everything Hellknights abhor. They arrive in this lawless land with the important mission, and it will be up to you to decide whether they are friend or foe. Befriend them, prove that you are worthy, that your rule is the lawful one, that your country is the beacon of stability in the region and you will be welcomed into their ranks. Help them complete their mission in the Stolen Lands, and you will be taught secrets and mysteries only a few are privileged to know. Antagonize them, and you will find them to be a powerful and extremely well-organized adversary, vanquish them to seize their relics and discover the truth behind their appearance in the Stolen Lands.
This stretch goal will provide your character with even more options to choose, with unique abilities for Hellknights and Hellknight Signifers and specific items thematic to the Hellknights, as well as new quest line dedicated to the Hellknight presence in the Stolen Lands. Face them on the field of battle or fight side-by-side, it is your choice to make.
Hellknights is our next stretch goal, they will be unlocked when funding reaches $1.1M

Sword Legacy: Omen - Indie game with global ambitions
@VentureBeat Sword Legacy: Omen is a tactical turn based RPG which explores the time of King Arthur.
Building a world and IP
Sword Legacy unfolds over 11 main levels, each with mission objectives and a focus on the environment. Players can customize each of the four characters on their team, shuffling through 10 skills that you unlock for each. They can also decide who will lead the team as they explore and pick up loot, which can have an effect on battle order if they're ambushed. Some skills and characters are better suited for manipulating the environment - such as flammable barrels, which can be detonated or moved around - and the player's party can gain an advantage if it attacks from higher ground.
Scattered throughout the levels are documents that contain snippets of world lore, something that's optional for those who are interested in learning more about the "candlepunk" world. Candlepunk, Pine says, is something he discovered in his research that's akin to steampunk only set in medieval times instead of the Victorian era.
"We thought it was a good fit for our medieval world, especially the alchemical undertone we have. We have lots of potions in the game, and the potions always have side effects," said Pine. "The player can try a potion that will increase their health, but it also might reduce their attack stat, or increase defense but reduce attack, or whatever."
Sorcery is less common in Sword Legacy, where alchemy and blood magic take precedence. It abides by the grim atmosphere, where willpower is something that players can exploit for extra moves or super-powered attacks, but can also result in stress and loss of control and affects both heroes and foes alike.

Bethesda Softworks - Creation Club @ PC Gamer
PC Gamer reports that some modders like Bethesda's new creation club:
Top Fallout 4 and Skyrim modders weigh in on Bethesda's Creation Club
How Bethesda's paid mods program differs from Steam's, and why three top modders like it.The Creation Club was Bethesda’s most contentious E3 announcement. A follow-up to Valve’s failed paid mods program, the Creation Club will allow third-party developers, including modders, to create sanctioned add-on content for Fallout 4 and Skyrim: Special Edition. This content will be sold through in-game marketplaces for Creation Club Credits, which can be purchased via Steam.
The short version is that it’s paid mods. Bethesda insists that the Club isn’t paid mods, but it is. Crucially, it’s also a dramatically improved version of paid mods. Many questions remain unanswered, but we do know that Bethesda will screen applicants, curate Club content and optimize everything themselves to prevent conflict between mods. Club content must also be original, meaning existing mods won’t suddenly cost money. Perhaps most importantly, Bethesda says “there will still be plenty of free mods as well.”
Assuming Bethesda follows through on these rules, the Club could actually be a positive development for modding. It’s not perfect; as our own Chris Livingston wrote, Club content would be better off free, with the store itself acting as a way to promote the best mods and compensate talented modders. In any case, it is a rare opportunity for modders to profit off their passion.

ADOM - UI Improvements
Ancient Domains of Mystery (ADOM) has had a great deal of work put into UI improvements.
Another week of UI work
9 JULY - THECREATOR
After being a bit spammy last week I'm trying to keep it to weekly updates here. The past week again saw a lot of work on improving the UI and starting two days ago I'm now playing my own game mouse-only (although I love the keyboard controls) in order to learn more about what actually is missing for a great mouse-based UI.
Soon we'll also run more supervised test games with ADOM newbies to learn more about what works and what doesn't in the UI.
This blog post summarizes the latest advances: http://www.ancientdomainsofmystery.com/2017/07/a-week-of-work-on-adom-ui.html
If you have more wishes or ideas regarding improvements for the UI/UX please submit them _now_ at http://www.adom.de/bugs - it's the perfect time as we really want to improve on this for the next release.
Thanks & stay tuned for the next update!

Kingmaker - Archetypes Funded
Pathfinder: Kingmaker has moved past the Archetype goal and now has a new goal of a new playable race at 1 million.
Archetypes are funded! Moving on to Goblin companion!
WOW! It took just a little more than one day to fund the Archetypes! You are absolutely incredible!
Now, not only the narrative designers run around the office with ideas about the Extra chapter, but all system designers also rub their hands in anticipation - oh those mighty builds they would love to add to the game. Post your comments and let us know what would you prefer to play!
Our excitement goes through the roof - with your overwhelming support, we feel like there are no limits to the expansion of the game! And as we start our race towards the Goblin companion, it is time to reveal one more stretch goal for you. It is just one day left on Kickstarter, but let's see how far we can go!
We believe that a maximum character variety is paramount, and races are an aspect we haven't addressed yet in the stretch goals. We are happy to cover the basic set of playable races - human, dwarfs, half-elves, elves, half-orcs, gnomes, halflings - nevertheless, we would love to deepen the character customization even more.
So (drumroll!) the $1.0M stretch goal is... a New playable race!
And to make it even more fun, we have another surprise for you. It seems we can't make up our minds about which race to add; too many temptations... So let us turn to YOU for this decision! We will provide three options that match the Pathfinder: Kingmaker best, and let you select your favorite through a poll. The races to choose from are still in discussion with our partners from Paizo, but we will come up with the available options as soon as we start funding for that goal.
Let us know about your favorite races in the Comments section!

Regalia - Review @ Bleeding Cool
Bleeding Cool reviewed
Regalia: Of Men And Monarchs Is Quirky, Good Fun
Klabater and Pixelated Milk’s RPG, Regalia: Of Men and Monarchs has received mostly positive reviews since its release on Steam back in May and it has absolutely deserved them. Regalia is an absolutely charming turn-based RPG adventure game, which manages to pay homage to the usual tropes while also poking some fun at itself. In Regalia: of Men and Monarchs, you are tasked with investigating your family’s ruin, and bringing your town back to life. But don’t let that fool you into thinking this is a tower defense game.
Regalia: of Men and Monarchs is a throwback game in the best sense of throwbacks. It isn’t a mindless attempt to ape an older style for profit, and it isn’t a trumped up remaster, it takes all the best moments of older RPGs as well as their low points, and sends them up with clear affection. When a vampire trots out a silly accent, the game’s protagonists usually respond with faces of disdain, and in doing so, Pixelated Milk invites us to share in the joke. And that might just be the best thing about it.
The RPG Scrollbars - The Many Faces Of Villainy
Richard Cobbet looks at the evil side of RPGs:
The RPG Scrollbars: The Many Faces Of Villainy
Not only does a great hero need a great villain, villains are usually just so much more fun. Whether it’s the tortured lost soul who can only find peace by destroying the universe or the cheery psychopath looking to see the world burn, it’s no wonder that many of the greatest films of all time have been defined at least as much by the baddie as any individual scene. Darth Vader, the Terminator, Norman Bates, Dracula… villains get people excited. A great villain lives forever, death be damned.

@DSOGaming Mass Effect: Andromeda no longer has Denuvo DRM.
We don’t know whether this was intentional or not. After all, we’ve seen developers rolling out patches without the inclusion of the Denuvo anti-tamper tech and then re-applying it via a new update.

Kingmaker - New Stretch Goal

Thanks to your incredible support, we have just reached the stretch goal that will expand original Pathfinder Kingmaker AP story! O_o there was a dеmonic laughter just heard in the owlcats cave - narrative designers were celebrating the ability to weave new secrets into the game plot...

With the extra story chapter funded we are happy to present our new stretch goal:
900K - Extra Companion
and here we have the special tale about our new companion from our Narrative Designer Chris Avellone.
The Goblin's Tale
The goblins of Golarion have a bad reputation, to be sure. Of course, that's usually the perspective of someone who hasn't spent much time around goblins and has never seen the positives goblins have to offer.
For example, goblins can be especially devoted. Whether to their four goblin hero-gods, or to you. Of course, their attempts to earn your favor can be much like the family cat leaving dead animals on your door step, except it might be someone's fingers. Such is the way with our goblin hero Nok-Nok, which is much like the sound his skull makes when his tribesmen beat it with clubs. (Which happened enough that he was mistaken for a drum at times.) He's not only eager to help, but he's incredibly effective in tormenting your enemies until they beg for mercy - or a swift death.
At the start of Kingmaker, however, Nok-Nok's fallen on difficult times - very difficult times, as his tribe intends to use him as a sacrifice. You're the only one who can save him... and as far as Nok-Nok is concerned, your arrival is divine proof that he's destined for greatness. He should know, because as he explains, he's the fifth goblin god, and you've earned his favor.
As it turns out, Nok-Nok aspires to be more than a warty, scabby head-drum - he is convinced that he is a deity-to-be. He's just having some difficulty making anyone else realize it. He can recite many tales of heroics and can expound at great length on how he's bravely fled from dogs, how he set fire to his own hair when he couldn't find firewood (he neglected to cut it from his head first), and how he's learned how to block kicks and punches by using his head as a shield. And that's just the beginning of his legendary journey to greatness.
Nok-Nok is a skilled thief. He excels in scuttling about, valiantly stabbing enemies in the back, and setting off every trap in the area (so much so, Nok-Nok's attempts to disarm a trap come very close to being literal - the trap usually threatens to dis-arm him). He does, however, have an incredible resistance to pain, attracts an unusual coterie of "pets," and embraces various junk and trinkets you find on your journey as if they were hard-won trophies of his heroics.
If you lend him a helping hand, Nok-Nok's quick to call you family - play your cards right, and he might even let you be among his worshippers of Nok-Nok (the Fifth, or in his words "the Fith" or sometimes, in other's words, "the Filth").
Hail to the kings!

Steam - UI Overhaul Incoming
@RockPaperShotgun Valve confirmed at Indigo 2017 that they are working on a UI overhaul for Steam which will see changes to the library and game launch pages.
The slides from Valve's product designer Alden Kroll, posted on the ValveTime forum, say that there's an "overall UI refresh and update coming", but give no date for the changes. Specifically, Valve plans to add the option to quickly launch recently played games from the library home page. That'd be welcome - if you've got a large collection and you're juggling 3 or 4 games, it's a (very minor) pain to have to keep scrolling between them.
The tweaks will also highlight games in your library that currently have some activity, whether than be events, updates, or simply titles your friends are playing.
Valve also promised a new "rich display of content" on game launch pages. The company says the reworked pages will better highlight your friends' activity in that game and flag community screenshots, artwork, and guides.

Vampyr - Preview @ Gamereactor
Gamereactor checked out Vampyr at the E3:
Living as a vampire in 1918 London ain't easy.
If you've ever dreamed yourself back to those good old days when Vampire: The Masquerade was the hottest thing you could play on your PC, then you might have been starving for another experience like that, and you might have also been disappointed by the vampire-themed games that you've played since. If that's you then you might want to keep an eye out for Vampyr, a game from the Paris-based studio Dontnod which not only lets you become a bloodthirsty night crawler, but also lets you decide the fate of a whole community of innocent people.
Vampyr puts a fresh spin on the vampire experience, and the mechanics that revolve around the lives of the people of London look especially interesting. With an intriguing story, a large open world to explore, fun combat, and family tragedies waiting to happen, we came away from the presentation wanting to feed on some poor souls even more than we did before, and that's a good sign. Vampyr will be released on PC, Playstation 4, and Xbox One this November.

Compilation of press feedback
Since we had announced Pathfinder: Kingmaker almost two months ago we saw quite the interest from the game media. It is always very exciting to get feedback on your game, especially at the early stages of development. For those of you who missed the articles we made a brief compilation.
"Almost everything I asked about in terms of story seemed to have a layer beyond what I expected--the advantage of having years of tabletop playtesting, perhaps. If these different aspects of Kingmaker can coalesce into a dramatic whole, this could be special." – IGN.com
“these are many common elements in a CRPG title, but Pathfinder's setting and lore makes this particular outing feel otherwise distinct... If the alpha build was any indication, then there’s plenty of opportunities to shape your own identity and leave your mark on the world.” – Gamespot.com
“Pathfinder: Kingmaker is a much-anticipated isometric RPG take on the classic pen-and-paper game.” – PCGamer.com
"For fans of the tabletop game, this will be a great opportunity to translate their fantasy adventures to their desktops." – Game Informer
"First impressions from in and around the bandit lord's fortress; the game looks incredible. The in-progress menus are attractive and orderly, the environments lush and vivid, the character portraits appealing and refined. What voice acting there was, was convincing and professional." – mmorpg.com
