Fig - New 'Open-Ended' Funding Option
GameDaily reports that Fig is offering indie developers a new open-ended funding option.
Fig, which is a crowd-investing platform and publisher in its own right, operates a little differently. With their latest funding vehicle, Open Access, Fig is looking to rework how developers approach crowdfunding over the long-term, rather than being solely beholden to a 30-day campaign cycle where raising money ends as soon as that timeframe is up.
"For developers, this is a form of crowdfunding more along the lines of how games are developed," Bailey told GameDaily over email. "They get a chance to work on more of a milestone schedule and get feedback iteratively, and the community gets a chance to play early builds and be part of the development experience. Almost every time a Kickstarter fails to deliver, the first thing the community says is, 'just give us what you've got.' Now that's an integral part of the process that happens immediately."
Open Access walks a similar path to "open beta" and "early access" games being released on platforms like Steam and Epic Games Store. (Even Fortnite Battle Royale is considered "early access.") It uses an "open-ended structure to test out game features through milestones, which are tied to content." Backers and investors are able to pay for these rewards and "receive immediate access to the latest build of the game," although games are being updated throughout the development cycle throughout Open Access campaigns.

Fig - Atari in Two Game Deal
@gamesindustry Fig is teaming up with Atari in a two game deal.
Atari is teaming up with the crowdfunding platform Fig to bring two new projects to life, though they remain tight lipped on what either might be.
Despite a prestigious legacy of arcade classics, Atari hasn't brought much to the fore in recent years. However, this new deal with Fig has promised a reboot of one of its "most beloved intellectual properties" and an entirely new IP.
"Fig is providing a model where gamers not only help to get the titles they are most passionate about funded, but also have the opportunity to share in the financial returns with developers and publishers," said Fred Chesnais, CEO of Atari. "We're excited that Fig has opened up the vast potential of crowdfunding to IP holder and publisher alike by changing the narrative and allowing us to partner with our fans."

Fig - a new funding platform for games
Justin Bailey the former Double Fine COO has started a new crowdfunding platform focused on games. This platform called Fig also allows equity crowdfunding; from the article below.
Fig is built from its very foundations to offer maximum value to developers, pledgers and investors, rather than relying on an architecture built to serve cat cafes, smart watches and YouTube channels equally.
Urquhart, Fargo, and Schafer have also pledged to use Fig to fund future titles from their studios Obsidian Entertainment, inXile Entertainment and Double Fine Productions.
