I'm loving my party's current outfit - I tried to match it to each of their portrait :)

That's a fine looking party!

I have been modding the game this time around (its my third play through) so I would have more control over appearances. Plus a cool mod that tracks all your stats like BG did - like kills, hit rates, best hitter, # of X completed, etc., plus some mods that free up the camera and zoom more, and the visual adjustments mod of course. So can appreciate how nice it is when you get a cool group going!

purpleblob July 20th, 2019 14:33

Oohh, do show off your party outfit sometime as well!! :D

Another survey from Owlcats regarding dungeons in Kingmaker :)

https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1F…Hr6vg/viewform

Hastar July 21st, 2019 12:58

Nice, filled out the survey. Asked for more light sources in dungeons. Also, more natural and organic dungeons. The first dungeon with kobalds and mites should be less confusing and way too dark for a first dungeon. I was fine with the traps and puzzles but you can make newer players rage quit with that dungeon. It was too damn dark though even with the light spell.

Well, its a dungeon :p.
Immersion > convenience anytime imo. I ' d also prefer a few longer ones.

I loved the Old Sycamore cave!! There's always the light spell available for casters :)

Hastar July 21st, 2019 14:35

I'm talking about newer players. I know many did not like Old Sycamore for the first dungeon. The light spell is crap in this game. When you can't even see the dungeon walls why pay an artist to do the work? I would like to enjoy the dungeon environment more.

At least have an improved light spell at 3rd lvl. I get tired at looking at black and gray blobs after awhile.

That's a great picture Purple. I think I will always have to have an Aasimar in my group to have the light halo.

purpleblob July 21st, 2019 16:17

I guess its differences in opinion but I felt the light spell provided enough vision in Sycamore cave :)

Thanks, thats my party for the Beneath the Stolen Lands! I've downed and collected 3 out of 4 mini bosses' special items. Only Fallen Enchantress' item left before I can face the final boss :D I'm on my 16th run now lol.

wolfgrimdark July 21st, 2019 21:05

Good survey. I like short to medium dungeons. Not a fan of huge multi-level dungeons in any game. Maybe one good big one and the rest a mix of medium and short.

purpleblob July 30th, 2019 09:50

Finally finished DLC3 - took me 19 runs to complete!!! :D

The final fight was a good fun, took me only 2 tries though since I went in there as max level and geared to teeth - it was a close call, all of my party was on very low HP (but so was the final boss), my crusader saved the day by casting mass heal just in time then the beast went down on next round! :D

Here's the screenshot of my proud heros:

It is endless - you can continue to play after you defeat the "final boss" for the DLC3, which is what I'm doing.

How it works as a "stand alone" DLC is:

You need to find all "lore items" of mini bosses (Weary Traveler, Fallen Priestess, Wicked Chanter, Captor and Captive) before you can open up a portal for the "final" boss.

There are 4 "lore items" per mini boss - once you collect all 4, the mini boss will drop a "special item". So all up, you need 16 lore items and 4 special items before facing the final boss.

Only 1 mini boss spawns per run, then you need to import the save to carry over the lore/special items to the next run - this also reward you special randomised boon.

On average, 1 item dropped for me - sometimes I got 2 in one run, sometimes none. So it took me 19 runs to face the final boss.

My party is max level (20) but I'm only up to 36th level of the dungeon, and there's an achievement for 50th level, so I'm continuing on :)

I think it works a bit differently in the main campaign.

purpleblob August 3rd, 2019 14:09

Yay, I reached dungeon level 50!

Finally going to take break from Kingmaker (I think… we shall see - maybe will start another run in main campaign lol)

Another survey is out to improve Kingmaker and Owlcat's future games - this time around on sound quality!

https://forms.gle/kzG1zcMBiihEURBR9

:)

purpleblob August 29th, 2019 09:18

I'm trying out a whole bunch of new classes:

Kineticist Knight (Earth) tank, Slayer with glaive, and Mystic Theurge (cleric/empyreal sorceress).

I have no idea what I am doing with KK tank but I seem to survive well enough. I have an off-tank (crusader) just in case but haven't had much difficulty so far :D

Slayer is pretty cool as well, studied target ability is insane!

On the other hand, MT thus far been meh… maybe because I'm not high enough level to take advantage of the class. At low level (currently level 10 - cleric 3/sorcerer 4/MT 3) I'm just busy managing all the spells without much benefit :(

Gwydden August 31st, 2019 02:39

My apologies for barging in, but I'm thinking of picking this up next time it goes on sale. I am utterly illiterate in Pathfinder, however, and was wondering how applicable a-not-very-extensive knowledge of D&D 5th Edition would be.

I wish I can answer that question but I haven't played D&D 5e… :(

All I can tell you is that the Pathfinder is derived from D&D 3.5e, some people like to call it D&D 3.75e. I was wondering about how D&D 5e differs to 3.5e and did some reading, and to simply put it appears that 5e is a lot more streamlined compared to 3.5e. But that's really all I got… sorry :(

You can play this game without a great knowledge of the system itself. I am not particularly fond of RPG like D&D or Pathfinder but I really enjoyed the implementation.

Like for a tabletop RPG you will probably need several tries to nail down what class you really want to play. But this is not because the system is tedious or badly explained but only because it offers a huge number of very viable possibilities.

If you like RPG and really appreciate a nice story make yourself that gift. You will thank you. The game is awesome and totally worth your time.

Oh, well, how bad could it be? I'm sure I can figure it out, given time. Thank you both. Just one more question: which classes are not taken up by any of the story companions? I won't necessarily avoid the rest, but if possible I'd rather minimize redundancy.

Kos September 1st, 2019 21:27

Without spoiling, and if my memory still serves: You get from the start a tank, a bard, a barbarian with a huge sword and an attitude. Other people like a cleric and an inquisitor may or may not join.

Note than if D&D 5th are still like BG and Torment the classes in Pathfinder are much more flexible. You are not locked in one path for your character and your companions.

purpleblob September 2nd, 2019 01:37

I think I will just list out potential companion classes - its easier that way since Kingmaker offers lots of classs options!

Companion classes:
Bard, Barbarian, Warrior (Tower Shield Specialist), Cleric x 2 (one default and one Ecclesitheurge), Inquisitor, Rogue/Wizard, Magus (Eldritch Scion), Ranger, Alchemist, Rogue - if you have The Wild Card DLC installed then Kineticist as well.

Gwydden September 4th, 2019 02:16

Wouldn't you know, the game was on sale on Humble Bundle. I picked it up, together with the Wildcards DLC, and started playing today. I restarted multiple times as some of the "leftover" classes, but ultimately decided I didn't want to begin with a spellcaster and picked Ranger instead.

I've just cleaned up Oleg's Outpost. Still wish the combat was turn-based, but it's growing on me. Once I settled on a build, I ended up having a lot of fun, and now I'm really looking forward to the next chance I get to play.

The turn-based mod works brilliantly.

I agree, works like a charm.

purpleblob September 9th, 2019 11:40

I started another playthrough, this time as a Bard. Didn't realise how much the game has changed with the Enhanced Edition - Owlcat re-did whole of the spider swarm cave!

purpleblob September 29th, 2019 07:17

Finished it again! :) I'm happy to report that Owlcats reduced the number of Wild Hunts in HATEOT - many of them were replaced with different monsters (mainly golems), and it's fairly easy to finish the game with level 20 now.

Finally unlocked the "true"ending and earned "So shall you reap" achievement as well :D Pretty happy.

you September 29th, 2019 08:17

booboo September 29th, 2019 12:47

have there been any hints about a sequel or new PF game from Owlcats? I really enjoyed Kingmaker (despite the kingdom management part) and really hope they do something new in PF…

purpleblob September 29th, 2019 13:44

No official announcement yet but I from what I heard on their discord channel, I suspect they already started working on new PF game :)

Zloth September 29th, 2019 20:29

Just started the game - took about 2 hours just making my character. There sure are a LOT of classes to pick from! Even with a mod pack, though, I couldn't find a good portrait - it seems people don't fantasize about hobbit archers much. ;)

Pladio September 29th, 2019 20:42

Is the turn based mod any good?

The main reason for me not picking this up is the combat…

I haven't tried the mod myself but people say its excellent:

https://www.rpgwatch.com/forums/showthread.php?t=43785

Imo, RTwP mode is very good in Kingmaker - IIRC, @Hastar is a big fan of TB combat but even he enjoyed Kingmaker in RTwP mode!

Zloth October 1st, 2019 01:35

Whew, this thing ain't easy! I could handle the spider cave but not for long. Amiri keeps getting poisoned and I don't know any way to heal it other than to rest for days. And the temple? No way! Whomever I turned would die in the first two rounds.

I eventually managed to put together enough cash to buy a grenadier, though, and that's made all the difference. (I wussed out and got a elf instead of a dwarf, though. Sorry Bungie.)

P.S. Got quite a scare in the tutorial. Bust down the door to the armory? But my party is just two hobbits and a gnome!

Did you go there after talking to Bokken? He should give you items that helps - like bombs. Owlcats redesigned that area so you can finish Bokken quest without having to deal with spider swarms. Later on you learn slow poison so you don't take stat damages, and lesser restoration to remove stat damage. Try using treat affliction ability for now.

Two hobbits and gnome?? Who's that? Linzi and ?

Edit: what difficulty are you playing on? Temple = Temple of Elks?

crpgnut October 1st, 2019 02:43

Temple of Elkemental Evil?

Zloth October 1st, 2019 06:56

Temple of the place where your rival has gone - I forget the name. He brought along a rogue, a fighter, an archer, and some sort of mage. I could barely hit any of them, unfortunately, and impaled myself on them a few times. It worked out much better when I came back with a couple of characters a level higher and a 5th character to help out.

I got the berries I needed in the cave (well, after a re-load - I got unlucky the first time) but I tried going deeper. That's when I found out what those fire potions were for. Pity I had used all but two thinking they were supposed to be for the big spiders. Oh well, I'll go back in later.

I tried Treat Affliction and it didn't appear to do anything. I don't think Lesser Restoration does much against permanent stat loss, either. What's worse is that Amiri was the only one that was losing strength. I think she was down to 6 when I left!

Back in the tutorial it's your character (I've got a halfling), Linzi the halfling, and the rival illusionist gnome. Nobody could do melee until I met the elf!

Difficulty level is Challenging.
