I'll give a chance to a few more episodes though.

Yep, I'm in the same boat. The premiere was a big meh. I've got the second episode recorded but haven't watched yet. I'm planning on getting the 3rd episode recorded and then watching them back-to-back. If that doesn't catch my interest, I'm afraid I'm punting.

I don't understand the 3 month break the networks are putting in shows during the holidays now. Revolution lost me by taking all that time. Quality-wise, it was hanging by a thread for me and that huge gap was sufficient to let me off the hook. Lots of shows are doing that now. I understand that viewership goes down during the holidays, but I don't get waiting until March/April to fire back up. Seems like most shows, even the wildly popular ones, are committing this sin.

I was recommended Mongrels by a friend and it's bloody hilarious :D

Reminded me a lot of Greg The Bunny, another similar themed series which was cancelled (IMO) prematurely. DAMN YOU, FOX!

We are watching Borgen at the moment and like it a lot. It is a series about politics and how being a politician influences your personal life. In my opinion it is very well done, with believable characters. The Danish political system isn't that different from the Dutch, so that probably makes it more recognizable as well. Besides that it can even be watched if you are not into politics.

I 've also started watching Hannibal based on the titular Thomas Harris' character which is played by the amazing Mads Mikkelsen (Casino Royale, Valhalla Rising, Clash of the Titans).

Very creepy and quite good. Also pretty gory.

Good news, folks!

Season 4 of Arrested Development will be airing on Netflix on May 26th! Woohooooo!

I've been watching a veru fine period drama called Selfridges; I didn't know that there really was a Mr. Selfridge who in 1908-1912 or so turned the trade and shopping on its head (or made it go topsey turvey….). It is a rather interesting period drama, starring Jeremy Piven as Harry Gordon Selfridge who comes to London around 1908-1909 with nothing but a a dream, it seems. And then builds a store, a warehouse where it seems that drive do come true. We also get to know some of the workers, and the members of Mr. Selfridge's family.

The main reason I like the series is this: It tries to saty away from the coldhearted businessman portrayal; it also shows that even Mr. Selfridge's himself has demons under the floorboards - or as we say in Danish: skeletons ins the closet. And some of those ome out at night and dance around….not literally of course…

I forgot to add: I've been watching mr. selfridge on Swedish and Norwegian television as Danish television first begins airing the episodes, I think, this coming weekend.

ps. glad you're liking Borgen…

With hubby out of the house, I watched S3 E2 of TCW, with this scene as an endless loop …

I have to admit it…

Hannibal is better than I gave it credit for. But that's because it doesn't focus on Hannibal. I still find Mads Mikkelsen wrong for the part - and I cringe every time he has to say a hard word in English.

But the writing is surprisingly good - especially the dialogue. The other characters are also quite strong - and I'm getting used to Darcy's take on his role.

Definitely, the writing is what makes this show worth watching after all.

I agree, Hannibal didn't exactly "hook" me with the pilot but it has me now. They've developed the story nicely over a small number of episodes.

Yeah, it's been a surprise.

Also, it LOOKS great - and has a good soundtrack to boot.

While I do like Mads Mikkelsen in Hannibal, I do admit that his accent can be a bit undecipherable as times. Subtitles to the rescue!

is Lexx good?

We're looking for a good new series to get into and watch. Kinda sounds like a Firefly thing, is there a slight comparison?

Been watching Breaking Bad, Seasons 1-4. Having watched up through the start of season 4, I have to say that this show is highly overrated… There are only two things that I have taken away from the series so far 1) The Pontiac Aztec truly was a butt-ugly car and 2) it's ok to empathize with a guy making meth for the entire southwestern USA region if he has his head buried in the proverbial sand.

Wrong thread, but I couldn't possibly disagree more. BB is one of the few TV dramas that I've ever bothered to continue watching.

Our son started watching over Christmas break and got us into it … very much agree. May never catch up but definitely enjoy it!

We have been watching Rookie Blue, a Canadian show that airs during summer. It started 4th season last week and the initial episode was more like a LifeTime movie than anything else … and I warned my wife that unless the show redeemed itself I was fading fast in terms of interest. Fortunately this week's episode was much better …

Lexx is more like Farscape … wacky stuff.

Having read the Game of Thrones books (well the first 3 I think, long ago) I knew what was coming…

I was still blown away.

Drithius June 6th, 2013 07:56

Finishing up on Breaking Bad, about halfway through Season 5 now. My opinion remains largely unchanged: for having received such widespread praise, I had expected far better content. With a few exceptions here and there (and a stellar season 4 finale), I don't feel much enthusiasm for this series at all.

It was intriguing when the main character was battling cancer and a person could empathize with the loneliness and despair he was feeling to come to the decisions he made. But the latter seasons in which he evolves into some wanna-be Don Corleone really don't appeal to me at all. The changes in his personality from scene to scene feel more and more contrived.
