Decent build?

Hi all,

I'm just starting out as a battlemage, but I'm worried that later on, it'll be useless as a mage and useless as a warrior. Should I specialize? ie: go with straight up fighter/mage class?

What builds are you using and what do you like about them? What's easiest to play for a semi-casual player?

Thanks!

Oliver

I also chose a battlemage, although I don't really know what I'm doing. My choice was more or less based on the observation from the first Drakensang game that all characters end up doing melee at some point, and opponents usually jump on mages and thieves first.

As the battlemage seems to be a full mage, I don't think he misses out on too much.

A battlemage should be okay, although the straight characters for either side are probably a bit easier. A good rule of thumb for the Drakensangs is that every character must be able to hold his own in combat. Even in situations when you're surrounded by 15 skeletons everybody must be able to add something, be it a healing spell, an attacking spell or or blow with his weapon. Plus he can't go down because this would increase the pressure on the rest of the party.

Do you think a metamage would have been a better choice?

My own advices are to put at least a few points into heaking wounds (skill level at least 5) and to put at least a few into healing poison. This might not be necessary if you have a hero with a spell of healing poison, but if this hero goes down, then you are on your own, that's why I gave all my group members at least a few points into curing poison and healing wounds, as backups, so to say.

At least one should be able to open chests, and in dungeons the "dwarven nose" r how it is called *can* be useful, especially in the forgotten research facility aka "dungeon at the elven site".

In Drakensang 2, there is far more emphasis on social talents. Put a few points into that, too. Or at least have a specialist for that. Oh, and for sneaking, too !

Apart from that I'd say : Heed Goraths words ! ;)

And as a last advice this night from me (it's past midnight local time here) : Don't forget to build up the special combat abilities !

Remember this is not Oblivion or Gothic. You are not 1 character. You are a party of characters. Other than some quest dialog interaction, you can select any character in the party as the 'leader'. So think of the party instead of the individual. Whatever your character is, you can always complement it with other characters, so don't worry if you're a ranger or a battlemage or a metamage. It'll work out.

Yes. Party-building is very different from single-character-building.
