Dungeon Siege 3 - Preorder Offers
Dungeon Siege 3 is now available for preorder on Steam, with bonuses of the first two games. Looking around the other vendors to keep things fair, Gamersgate is offering 10% off and I couldn't see it on Impulse or Direct 2 Drive.
More information. |
Anyone know if the original DS thru steam will work with the ultima lazarus mod.?
Been waiting to play that one until someone finally came around with a digital download of the original DS game. Hopefully, can get ultima running and game somewhat more optimized for modern systems. |
That's the big unknown question right now. I did let the U6P people know on their forums. Would be awesome of STEAM or Square Enix to give them a free copy to possibly test it with.

Game require Steam to play.
Including retails and Gamersgate, at least they are nice enough to warn about the DRM, it's usually not written on the box. |

What is Gamersgate? And well ALL Steam games require steam to run. No surprise there.
A shame GOG couldn't have gotten this, for all the STEAM haters, ;) |
Well of course I expect it to need Steam if it's downloaded from there, but not if it's the retail box version.
|
Times like this I wish I could get over my box addiction, but I can't.

Some people who only buy games on Steam seem completely oblivious to the fact that Steam is often forced on those who don't.
If Steam was always optional I would never bitch about it. |

Not seeing it on any of the websites or box covers I can find for the game. Do you perchance have a link? Thx :) Edit/update : Well Gamersgate IS listing this: DRM: Requires a 3rd party download and account So it's like the Warhammer DOW II I guess, even the PC Retail version needs a STEAM account and logon to play…. Thanks for the heads up! That's not an issue for me but good to know nonetheless ;) (Might as well purchase through Steam then and get the earlier games too heh) |
DSIII isn't the first Square published game to use Steamwork either. It is the first to be sold digitally elsewhere then Steam though. I call this an improvement, before Steamwork games were Steam exclusive for digital version.
There's a lot of chance that Deus Ex: Human Revolution will use it as well, despite there being no confirmations either. |

as opposed to say having a Steam-version and rest are Non-Steam versions. Some games bought at Retail that actually do require Steam: Saints Row 2, FEAR 2, Fallout: New Vegas, DOW2 + Expansions, anything Valve does [obviously], Dark Messiah [MP portion requires Steam, while SP gives you the option of Steam or Non-Steam], AVP 2010, Kane & Lynch 2, Sup Com 2, etc. And yes, the list is growing. |
Liked DS and DS2. Was unconvinced by DS3. Digital distribution version only makes the decision easy.

Same here, Roi. I almost always buy a steam copy eventually.

When I want a digital version, I buy it from the digital online retailer. I dont need physical to get a digital version. If indeed the physical version is a non digital online version, it is another story… |
For those curious about buying DS3 even partially for DS1 & DS2, here's my findings so far.
They work on Win7 x64. That being said, I'm having a devil of a time with lag. This is gameplay lag as well as cursor lag. The cursor is noticeably slow and the camera is jerky and is mostly noticeable with the edge scrolling, but also during movement as well. I've got a 2.4ghz core2duo with an HD6850. I've tried compatibility modes and CPU affinity with no luck. I'm going to force vsync off when I get home tonight and see what that does, as I'm quite certain it is on by default in the game, with no way to disable it. I've seen this kind of cursor lag before in other games when vsync is enabled (Dark Messiah springs to mind). In addition, I read somewhere that people had some success setting the compatibility mode to Vista, though it seems odd. I'll try it if vsync off fails, as it's more or less unplayable at the moment. From what I can tell, mods also don't work. I've tried the far zoom mod, the large text mod and the far fog mod, all without any noticeable differences. If anyone has gotten these working, please let me know how. I've not tried anything beyond just sticking them in the resources folder. I've also tried the various widescreen fixes, but I can't really see why they're necessary - just setting the resolution in the .ini file seems to work fine. I've read that without the widescreen mod fixes, the resolution is vert- as opposed to horiz+, but I really don't care that much to mess with it. The farther fog, farther zoom and larger text mods would be very nice though. Has anyone else tried DS2 from steam yet? |

- Serial key - Steam installer on the disk I had to download the game, when the point of buying the box was not to have to download the game. |

They put the Steam installer on Disc into the box ??? O_O NOT the game ??? O_O Now that's what I call bullshit. |

Magazines here often come with disc versions of games with NO DRM …
After several years, of course … Usually at the end of a product life cycle, I assume … |

There's still some shared ownership but they aren't sister companies as they were. Ironically, given Valve/Steam's relationship one of the reasons given was that there was reluctance by publishers to put titles on a service which was also effectively a developer/ publisher itself. |
