Never played this one. Is it better than VI?

I think so. It's my favourite Ultima. And 2nd on my personal best games ever list.

I found it to be considerably better than Ultima VI.

No. I grew to like U7 and Serpent Isle, but the second trilogy and U3 will always be better, imo of course.

I liked Serpent Isle a lot better than U7 due to the fact that it was in a totally new location. It made dealing with the horrible combat a bit better, but Britannia without tactical combat was odd to say the least.

With that said, it's still a good game with lots of interesting NPCs and locations. It's just the damn combat that sucked and I loved the fighting in the Ultima games.

I think it is a better world, with a better story, than U6, but the combat and such in U6 is much better.

I'm a bit biased on the story though as the first time I played U6, I found a loophole that essentially allowed you to skip 1/2 the game, so I missed a lot of the story.

Easily my best Ultima, still have the original black box, manual, map and trinkets lol…good memories.
