Torment: Tides of Numenera - Update #16, Final Hours
In the final hours of the Torment: Tides of Numenera Kickstarter Brian Fargo thanks the backers and invites us to the party.

Looks like they hit 4 million, here's hoping they meet the next stretch goal! I am so stoked about this game, it sounds like it is going to be un-freakin-believable! Most promising kickstarter RPG of all!
|
Not a fan of the male player, dunno if customization is possible (normally I don't care) but if this is what the character will look like I'd like a way to tweak him.
|
You can't say he doesn't look sexy. :p
Anyways… I'll miss that stronghold… |
Boy, that concept art is pretty underwhelming. The posing of all the different actors looks off somehow, and the dog-things seem to be more part of the backdrop than moving creatures.
|
And this is what happens when you treat your customers with respect and not like walking wallets.
Now lets see a great game with even more depth than the last PS Torment. |
The trolls are howling!

45 minutes to go and the funding is going through the roof. 4.1 million now.
Odd, they are listing the 4.25 million goal as achieved?? Does that include 10% personal match from Brian Fargo? |

Eh, I really wish they'd make that stronghold stretch goal. :P

They just said on the live feed that they made the 4.5 stretch goal.
|
Kickstarter is done. 74,393 backers gave $4,188,358.
Now I wonder how much it will sell when it actually comes out? |

I'm afraid I mis-heard or they misspoke. They mentioned the 4.5 number in conjunction with the 4.25 stretch goals, so it could have been a combination of both.
Fargo announced after the Kickstarter had closed that they raised 4.3 between KS and PayPal, so I think I was wrong about the 4.5 number. I'm not sure what impact further contributions on PP will have on the project, or if that's still possible (although the PayPal page doesn't seem to be closed.) They are (rightly) celebrating their accomplishment atm, so it might be awhile before we get solid numbers. |
That does deserve a champagne party, although it'll be pure torment in the morning. ;)
|
Well, as I have mentioned in another thread, if they added the "matching" 200K to the total, they would just hit the 4.5M stretch goal. So, let's hope they do some accurate accounting.

I missed the part where they said that those (Kickstarter generated) funds didn't count toward the stretch goals, which is a shame, as it was part of their lure for Kickstarter funding. Had I seen that earlier, I would have been far more nervous about making the goals that they did hit. I do disagree, however, with the statement "All the money is going towards the development of the game, that's what is important here". While I do agree that it is important, what is also important is community enthusiasm, and continued support (be it ideas, funding or word of mouth). Added features, presented as future possibilities, can only add value to that process. Thus, I hope they decide to add them in. Stated otherwise or not, the Kickstarter did, indeed, break 4.5M, with those added funds.
|
First of all you're factually wrong in saying that the money from Fargo and Dengler was generated by Kickstarter. It wasn't. Second, they said from the start that that $200k would not count towards achieving stretch goals. The stretch goals were designated with that money already factored in. It also provides a sort of insurance against failed pledges and to offset some of the KS and amazon fees.
Finally, the money is going towards added features. What difference would it have made if they counted that money towards stretch goals, but then increased the amounts for the stretch goals by $200k? Or would you prefer they just promise all the goals for less funding, and then risk not delivering or having to do it half-arsed? |
I think it's wonderful that they reached the 4.25 goal, that was the maximum I though was achievable, and they actually got there. Stretchgoals have, by their nature, be designed so that there is always a next one - otherwise people would not be enticed to pledge to reach them. So you'll never see all stretch goals met - they'll just add another two if that is about to happen :)

Yes but I'd still want to have a player stronghold more than some other goals. Then again, an add-on with it is very possible after sales.
|
I'm sure there will be a post about this shortly, but this just in from the latest update:
