Community Feedback Inspires Full-Length Expansion Campaign Set in Berlin

Kirkland, WA (February 27, 2014) Harebrained Schemes’ Shadowrun: Dragonfall, a major expansion for the magic-meets-cyberpunk tactical RPG mashup Shadowrun Returns, has launched today. Featuring a 12+ hour campaign set in the city of Berlin, Shadowrun: Dragonfall also contains a multitude of new features and enhancements for the core Shadowrun Returns game. The title is available for $14.99 (requires the original game to play) for Windows, OSX and Linux at the Steam store http://store.steampowered.com/app/272030, and a DRM-free version is offered at GOG.com. The original Shadowrun Returns game is also on sale for $14.99 for a limited time.

“The response to Shadowrun Returns was so overwhelming that it inspired us to pull out all the stops in creating Shadowrun: Dragonfall. We really did our best to listen to fans and act on their feedback,” said Jordan Weisman, founder of Harebrained Schemes and creator of the Shadowrun game universe. “We are thrilled to unveil our next story and can’t wait to see all the awesome new Shadowrun stories that the community will create with the Dragonfall expansion and the Shadowrun Editor.”

In addition to the incredible support they gave the project, from its announcement through its historic milestone as the first $1m+ Kickstarted videogame to ship, fans have shared hundreds of free Shadowrun adventures and content with the Steam Workshop community (http://steamcommunity.com/workshop/browse?appid=234650), greatly expanding the game world developed by Harebrained Schemes.

More information.

This just moved to the top of my to-play list. It's going to be interesting to see how they've adressed the shortcomings of DMS. I liked the game well enough, but it was to linear for my tastes, and not being able to use the skills of my team outside of combat was also a bummer.

daveyd February 27th, 2014 16:55

I think by "now available" they meant in a few hours. HBS sent me keys for both a GoG and Steam version. I redeemed both of them but Steam still says 4 hours until it unlocks, and the GoG page for Dragonfall isn't up yet (although it says +1DLC in my account. Can't wait (but I guess I'll have to).

borcanu February 27th, 2014 17:06

your comments bring me hope.

I was expecting only new campaign

The post is updated.;)

There is still three hours till launch so have patience. Play another game in the mean time as this is not the only one released this week.^^

fungus February 27th, 2014 17:30

Sounds good, Returns was good but could have been better. I'd certainly try it out as I had fun with original, and if they listened to feedback, even better.

ChaosTheory February 27th, 2014 18:07

I'll be waiting to hear from you folks if this game is a "buy" yet or not.

rjshae February 27th, 2014 19:19

12 hours? That's not much.

I think Mitch Gitelman said in an interview that it can take more like 15-16 hours if you do all side quests. (Which is actually bit longer than DMS, IIRC). 12 hours is probably more what it takes if you focus on completing the main story arc as quickly as possible. Basically there's a lot more optional content in this one, and (hopefully) more choices that matter.

gandalf.nho February 27th, 2014 20:11

Now is really available both in GOG and Steam

vurt February 27th, 2014 20:12

Looks significantly better than the first game. I guess I have to add this to the queue.

I'm overwhelmed with how many games I need to play. :)

Hexprone February 27th, 2014 22:57

I didn't realize I wouldn't be able to import my old character :(

Pongo February 28th, 2014 00:47

I enjoyed SRR, briefly, but never actually finished it. I got quite far in, got a bit bored, had a break, and just never really went back to it.

Reading the review in RPS, this sounds much better. Less linear is a massive plus in my book, even if its an illusion to some extent it will be a big improvement.

Terry February 28th, 2014 06:05

Well worth the 15 dollar pledge on kickstarter, if most of the projects I backed turn out as well I will consider it money well spent.

DArtagnan February 28th, 2014 10:59

Did they implement "free save" on the iPad version of the first game?

daveyd February 28th, 2014 21:57

For anyone who doesn't have it already:

There's a coupon code for 20% off the Steam version of Dragonfall if you buy it through Green Man Gaming: http://www.gamebreaker.tv/deals/new-…onfall-dlc-20/ The code also takes 8 bucks off the base game if you don't have that yet.

Not sure how long it's valid for.

greywolf00 February 28th, 2014 23:30

Thanks for the heads up daveyd. I might just be blind but I didn't the key listed in that article so encase anyone else has the same issue the code is

Had a chance to play a bit. You have a hub area where you can get (or not) missions and some side-missions, most with optional objectives, but it does not feel all that different from original. Slightly less linear, but not impressively so. Story is still quite fun, and the dialogues are good.
However, neither interface or combat has been improved, and it seems there is more combat now. Or maybe it just feels like that because of how boring it is. I like turn based combat, but you lack options, and the interface is frustrating, which doesn't help.

Worst of all, game is a buggy mess. You can finish a quest one way, and still have conversation as if you chose other option. Dialogue is wrongly described (e.g. option that is locked because you need skill A at 3. But you have skill A at 3). Once I was supposed as a side quest leave some guy alive, and I let him escape, only to have every NPC talk to me as if I killed him. Got stuck and had to alt-f4 when got booted from matrix. Etc, etc.

Wouldn't recommend right now.

Where you playing the Steam version? While I haven't completed my first play through yet I played through several of the optional runs, and I've only encountered one such bug so far.. I'm playing the GoG version, so I wonder if the Steam version might be more buggy for some reason. ( I think I may have read someone in the KS comments saying they got an earlier build and couldn't get Steam to update to the current version, so maybe that's what's going on). Also saw a thread on the SR forums talking about workarounds which seemed to apply to the Steam version only.

Anyway, I have been really enjoying it so far but I do agree that it isn't extremely non-linear. So far seems like I have choice between 2-3 missions at any given time. I do really like what they've done with the missions though where you have more choices over how to complete them; decking skills seem more useful too. However, consider some people are apparently experiencing more bugs it might be advisable to wait for a patch or two… Although like I said, I've only encountered one such instance myself so perhaps only the Steam version is wonky.

Nameless one March 2nd, 2014 11:41

I encountered some bugs in GoG version, nothing game breaking but they where annoying.I would also recommend waiting for patch or 2.

As for Dragonfall itself it's better than oc.It's less linear, there are side quests now(true side quests with their own instances unlike oc),and there are more NPCs you can chat with. And huge plus for me are consistent party members which are well written, mercenaries without any personalty or interaction where big minus for me in oc, they are still there but you can just use your party that works for free.

I have steam version (because I got SR on Steam too, when released). Some of the bugs are not big deal, I can just ignore additional conversation options, but some are rather annoying when causing you to fail a optional mission (and you only learn afterwards, as it looked good in the mission), or with conversation options remaining locked.
