Choice, consequence, & other imersion mods.
Thinking of trying Skyrim for a third time… and wondering what some of the best C&C/immersion mods are? Mods that populate the world with actors/places/events that make the game seem more alive and less revolving solely around the "Chosen One". Something to stave off the boredom I've felt twice now some hours into the game, realizing it was all just the same locales and events repeated 50x over.

I would recommend Interesting NPC's.

Not new lands - I have yet to really even explore Skyrim because of how uninvolving it feels. I'm mainly after stuff to make the world feel more alive and dynamic.

This may be a good one for you:
Civil War Overhaul - http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/37216 "CWO completely rewrites the civil war. You get new quests, new faction interactions, new soldiers, new rewards, etc. CWO completely changes the paths you can take, allowing for significantly greater quest variation, doubles the length of the civil war(at least), and does so by unlocking content that is lying dormant in your game(for the most part)." |
Well use my first mod I mentioned then. I have more to share also.

Interesting NPCs is seconded. Some of them are kinda dull or immersion breaking, but the majority are well done.
Both Falskaar and Wyrmstooth are more focused than Skyrim and would be a decent add-on. The Dragonborn mod is also very well done, but it is best to be mostly through the main campaign when you play it. Count, do you have the immersive patrols mod or the one that adds more organized bandits? I've only messed with these a little bit, but the bandits one made some of the dungeons much more populated and dangerous. Vilja is great if you want a female companion, but Hoth is even better for someone who seeks making the main game feel more alive. Hoth is a bounty hunter and he turns the boring bounty hunts into a more interesting meta-game. His look is kinda creepy too. CC isn't big even in most of the mods, so I don't have a lot for you there. It's very hard to turn Skyrim into a story game. Interesting NPCs might be your best bet for that. I haven't had a playthrough in 3-4 months so there might be some new stuff. I'd go look, but then I end up playing Skyrim again for another couple hundred hours….. CWO is definitely up your alley, Drithius. Bethesda cut out a ton of content from that storyline, due to time constraints, and a group of modders made a valiant attempt at restoring all of it and then finishing the missing pieces. If you play with this mod, there are a ton of battles between the imperials, the thalmor, and the stormcloaks. Taking sides will cost you while the war is going on. |
Thanks guys. I'll definitely take a look at Hoth & Civil War Overhaul. Immersive patrols & Open Cities look interesting as well.
|
Check and see if Immersive Patrols is compatible with the Open series, coz I can't remember.

I highly recommand Frostfall - hypothermia mod.

Never really been big on the tedium mods. I'm looking for immersion on a macro level, not on a micromanaging level.
|
…Wow, Skyrim Nexus has gone from bad to worse. Download speeds are abysmal!
|
Well you could always use the Skyrim workshop on Steam, but I hate it's layout.

Then I will just recommand those mods thay add more patrols and npcs. Inconsequential NPCs, Interesting NPCs and that tavern mod in particular are great. In addition, I echo what Nut said. VIlja and hoth companion mods add a lot of depth to the game. Immersive armors ia a keeper too. It adds more flavour to the world by increasing the armor variety on npcs while keeping it lore friendly. http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/19733/? There is also a similar mod called Immersive weapons that adds more variety to weapons. http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/27644/? |
Well, a couple weeks into the playthrough. So far, the standout performer is definitely Interesting NPCs. At first, the I interpreted the comments about this mod's inconsistency as a sign that it was amateurish… but it's anything but. Although a minor portion of the voice acting recording quality could be improved, I truly enjoy how much backstory each of the characters have and how they interplay with one another, relying on the player to make the connection on their own.
I can't comment on the Civil War Overhaul as I have't proceeded down that path all too much; I simply hope it doesn't wreck my savegame. Although not C&C related in any way, I *just* got to Hoth and I have to say I'm underwhelmed :( He doesn't seem to have much personality and his voice acting is such low quality as to break my immersion. I've gone ahead and installed Inigo instead. Overall, I'm enjoying the game moreso this time around, but I think it has less to do with C&C (where only Interesting NPCs helps in that regard), and more with the Requiem overhaul. The new Requiem 1.8.x is nicely balanced to provide for a game that doesn't peter out in the first hour. My character is level 26, has yet to kill a dragon unaided by the town guard, and still fears giants/mammoths. It's a welcome change from Bethesda's static and dull difficulty curve, but not so punishing as to make every bandit encounter an absolute grind. |
Nice! I may give Requiem a try too. Skyrim combat is even too easy for me, though it needs to play well with mages. Most of the combat tweaks seem to nerf mages into unplayable territory and I'm a mage. I shouldn't be here because it takes so little for me to start playing Skyrim again and again and again……
|
I started Skyrim with requiem too. I went to the first big dungeon and was punished so hard. I keep pressing though and i managed until the big spider.
It felt like Morowind again. I installed some more mods like needing food, getting cold and i am enjoying the game. If there was a nice story it could have potential. |
