Tips thread
I found a tip thread on Reddit, so I thought we could have our own here.
This is the Reddit thread for now. |
Didn't read the Reddit thread, but here's my tip:
If you're having trouble in an encounter, pay closer attention to positioning. Setting up a wall with your melee fighters to help protect the back ranks could make a huge difference. Also, you may want to rush a melee fighter in to engage with a particular nasty enemy, if simply just to keep their attention focused on your melee fighter while the rest of your party picks off the other enemies in the group. Also, a good strategy at times is to completely bum rush a single enemy at a time. Focus all 6 of your party members strongest attacks on a single enemy to fell them quickly, then try to move to the rest of the group in this way. A lot of times this is not possible due to the positioning, but when you can pull it off it can work well. |
More general Tips (the Reddit thread is mostly about abilities):
- Get a full party. There is 4 easily obtainable companions early on and you can make adventurers in the first town inn in exchange for coppers. - Click F and change your party march layout, you can also move character portrait in the UI (drag and drop) to modify the order. - Slow ranged weapons deal lots of damage and loves damage multipliers (Flame of Devotion, Sneak Attacks, etc). Use them as openers at the start of the fight and switch to another weapon set in the recovery time. You'll have to switch back at the end of the fight to reload though. - There is two auto-pause options everyone should have on: pause on enemy sighted and pause on combat-started. - There is an option to automatically set combat into slow mode in the auto-pause tab. - Go in scout mode everywhere with a high mechanic character. There is hidden stuff everywhere. Use [D] (fast mode) to make walking around faster. |

I can't take credit for this, as I read it somewhere else. But it makes a huge difference.
Use fast weapons on your Cypher to generate focus quickly (e.g. wands for ranged, daggers for melee). The class's power comes from spamming abilities without running out of focus. |
Yeah, it's probably the only class that benefits from fast weapons. For the most part, slower weapons makes it easier to pass damage resistance, which I guess is also something of a tip.

Also use tab to highlight stuff because some things aren't considered hidden, but you won't spot them unless you use the highlight or move your mouse cursor over every pixel of the screen. |
Even so, I sometimes miss things. It can take some time to detect them, so if I scoot by too fast in scout mode I can miss them.

Although, DW has some other perks as well. Any abilities that read "Full Attack" will generate attack with both weapons.
Also, Shield with the bash ability count as a weapon and seems to be counted as dual wielding and qualify for Full Attack. |

Here's a tip that I haven't seen anywhere else: Give everyone - and I mean everyone - a minimum of 2x athletics. It's enough to give them an 80% fatigue reduction, which goes a very long way towards avoiding the annoying fatigue debuff as a result of combat.

Here's a few more from me:
Rangers can make excellent front-line damage dealers. My main Ranger character actually wields a fast rapier and an enchanted small shield, and thanks to rings and buffs on armor/etc., he has a very high deflection. Thus, he can last in the melee fights and also keeps a very high attack speed and accuracy, making him a deadly fighter. Don't overlook the crafting. Both food and potions can make the difference in tough battles. Some of the buffs on food are excellent and help a lot. |

I also like the crafting since it isn't too tedious :) |
The crafting comes in handy for quick potions and powerful meals. Also, the enchantment is very useful for getting that slight extra punch out of a weapon or armor. And it's very simple and easy, which is cool. :)
I'm a big fan of animal companions, too! My main idea was to have a bear animal act as a tank and then I would attack from afar with a ranged weapon. Well, I did that for awhile and enjoyed it, but when I decided to leave my Fighter back at the stronghold and take a Druid instead, I needed another front-line fighter, so I adjusted my tactics a bit with the Ranger and it's worked out very well! :) Trinkets that add to Deflection are incredibly useful for keeping a melee fighter alive and mobile while still wearing light armor. So I guess that's another tip. :) |

As for my tip: Rogue + Arbalest + Stealth = insta-kill at beginning of fight. Another tip: Every time you disarm a trap, you recover that trap and can use it yourself later. |
This helps with managing abilities during combat.
1. Turn on pause when action complete. 2. Watch log for action complete. Then issue a new action for that character. Seems obvious, but this will help prevent non-responsiveness during combat. :) |

I'm making a detailed character build guide, mapping out powerful and interesting builds. Posting in in the steam community as I'm updating it:
