Will you be importing a save from TW2?

Just curious how many people held on to their saves from TW2. I just discovered that I still have my saves from the first 2 games. I evidently backed them up on my external HD before I built my new system.

Thing is, I honestly don't even remember a lot of the subplots from TW2. I meant to replay the first two games prior to TW3 being released, but I got sidetracked by other games.

I'm still considering starting with TW1 again even though it'll mean I won't be playing TW3 as soon as it's released.

Depends entirely on how reactive W3's story is to your actions in the prequels. Being an open-world game, I sincerely doubt it has any impact at all beyond a couple extra lines of flavor dialogue.

JDR13 May 9th, 2015 07:45

Yeah, but we won't know about that until after we've played it some. I take it you're not planning to play it at release?

From what I've read, there will be an option to choose what happened in TW 1&2 during a conversation at the start of the game.

Drithius May 9th, 2015 08:08

Nah, haven't really been following W3 to be honest; I found W1 ok, but wasn't really a fan over the direction W2 took. It felt very console-ee, both in tone and gameplay. So, while I'll eventually try out W3, it's definitely on the backburner.

Regardless, I really doubt Geralt's actions in the first two titles have any meaningful longterm impact. At best, we can hope they've concocted some sort of reputation system and those actions will give you a leg up (or down) with certain factions. At worst, they'll be complete window dressing.

Every time I finish a game (i.e. unless it was a really shitty one ;) ), I back up the save games to my storage HDD.
So I definitely still have my Witcher 2 saves but I doubt I'll be digging them up when I finally (enhanced edition) get around to playing Witcher 3. Even if I should manage to replay Witcher 2 between now and then and would remember more story stuff, I don't think I would. Just seems more appealing to me to start fresh and "pure" into a new Geralt adventure.

I won't be importing my savegame (even if I could find it), I will be content with making any choices presented at the beginning of TW3 to set my "starting point" in the world and take it from there.

I'm torn between my two savegames, one of which ends with helping Iorveth (c'mon, an "equality kingdom" exists, and Philippa is alive, yay!) and another with helping the Temeria guy (he has a such great personality). But will there be a chance to run around at least for a couple of missions with old comrades? If the differences are purely cosmetic, then I don't care much. I don't even care if Philippa is alive, surely it can't have any real impact in the game, because for many people she'd be dead.

That said, with the trick they pulled off in W2, that one with half a game being different depending on the path you took, I'm not completely sure savegames won't have an impact. Besides, in W2 it was pretty pleasant to meet Siegfried and to be let through to Loc Muinne as a sign of old friendship. So I think importing a savegame is definitely going to be a plus in W3, too.

Noone knows what kind of difference savegames are going to make yet, right? I was ignoring all W3-related news and videos on purpose.

Not sure either I replayed both of them sometime near the end of aug. getting ready for the 2014 release date. Most likely I won't and just start off fresh as it is an open world this time around.

Thrasher May 10th, 2015 01:47

I would have to figure out which save game corresponds to which path since I played them all. Probably easier to just set it in game with the dialog.

Pessimeister May 10th, 2015 05:38

Importing from the first game into the second was essentially cosmetic fluff anyway, but if such an option from Witcher II-III exists, I would certainly be curious enough to do it, as I do enjoy the C&C aspects of the series.

I did restart Witcher II earlier in the year with the intention of investigating the Roche path, but got distracted somewhere along the line. I'll no doubt end up getting back to this before picking up the third game.

Currently doing a Iorveth playthrough on my X360, but even if it was on pc, not sure why you'd even want to go though the hassle of digging up save games if you can just set it through some in-game dialog? Not sure what the advantage would be, so eh.

And I also wouldn't be sure your choices from the previous game are just going to be window dressing… They had an entirely different 2nd chapter! Sure, it wasn't open-world, but I still found that commendable and hope to see more of it. :)

Luckra May 11th, 2015 03:20

Indeed, the story changed so much between the different paths in Witcher 2 that I doubt it will be more than a few mentions here and there.
Still I have my saves ready!

DArtagnan May 11th, 2015 11:35

Nope, though I'd like to.

I finished TW1 not too long ago, and started a second playthrough of TW2 - but got sidetracked. For some reason, I didn't enjoy my replay of TW2 as much as I expected, and I think it was mostly due to the vast amount of NPC dialogue you have to go through - and it just didn't work for me the second time. I lost interest during the beginning stages of Act 2.

I was quite enthralled the first time around, though.

GothicGothicness May 11th, 2015 12:17

I think I will probably import my TW2 game… I am really curious to see what effect it'll have. The only games that really had a big effect with importing games I played is Wizardry I guess…..

joxer May 11th, 2015 13:01

I planned to use Roche path save to inherit the deadly stick of doom, but won't be doing it actually.
For all I know in the new game all you get is weapons and TW2 doesn't affect the story anywhere. I could be wrong ofc, but if I am, then I'll use an old save.

azarhal May 11th, 2015 13:17

I got a save from my playthrough earlier this year, I will probably import it just because I have one ready.

The only thing I know that gets imported is the tattoo you get from doing "a quest" with Roche's men in Chapter 1 (if you didn't remove it).

CelticFrost May 11th, 2015 13:58

My last saved game I didn't do anything or Roche's path it was all scoia'tael. Also did everything to see how far the game would let the relationship with shani go.

Shani is from the first game, no?

joxer May 14th, 2015 23:54

Okay, I definetly won't use an old save - there is no need:

She is in both games depending on how you play the second game depends on her role in it.
