I was talking about the game writing. |
I forgot that many of you have Dragon Age as the defacto entry RPG and can't appreciate something like this. Me, I was losing my shit w excitement when I saw this! Hell, its even more crazy and metaphysical than Torment, and that is fucking grand in my book. But, yeah, they're not going to please the Dragon Age/Skyrim crowd and thankfully they realize that and are not trying. I'd rather a game use gameplay elements from the late 90's and actually be deep and interesting instead of a Skyrim with garbage quests and writing.

He means you obviously didn't play PST if you are so disgusted by what this video shows. I can't imagine any fan of PST not loving this. Oh, the graphics aren't Skyrim enough for ya? boohoo. Yaknow, I remember when RPGs were the last genre that cared about graphics and, obviously, it was the same time period that created the very best of the genre. If you don't remember Planescape: Torment, or, more likely, never played it, watch a Let's Play of it THEN comment. Kthxbye.

Hopefully they will listen to fans of Planescape:Torment… really, you people have not played PST. REALLY you haven't, or else you have forgotten everything. In a world of Skyrims, let use hat WANT just one game like this have it? Please, can we please have just one game like this?

Nah, you can't PLAY Torment, you can only READ it. Since CR-PLAYING-GAMEnut is my nick, I'll stick with it. If I was CRRG nut then Torment would be perfect for me. As someone who reads and edits tons of books every year, I'm also an avid reader. Unfortunately, the writing in PST is really, really average in comparison to most fantasy novels.
I appreciate why some people love the game. It is different from the norm, and it is a neat little "pick your own adventure" tale like the ones I read when I was younger. Another huge difference between myself and others who played Torment; I was already an adult when the game was released. It isn't a childhood nostalgia moment for me. I think PST is a very good choose your own adventure game, btw. I'm also glad that someone is trying for a game in the same spirit. It isn't for me, but there is definitely an audience for this type of game and I think it will do well. |
Nah, I distinctly remember PLAYING Planescape: Torment, but then again, text adventures are also played. I love when people decide their definition of what a game is is absolute. It's cute. You're cute! ~pinches your cheeks~
Edit: Yeah, I was also an adult. And I appreciated a game actually elevating the writing above "save the princess, stop the apocalypse" type nonesense RPGs were still doing… hell, STILL DO. Sure, there was a lot of dialogue, but there was plenty in between. People just exaggerate how crazy the word amount was in the game. Hell, it was no less an RPG than Baldur's Gate or Icewind Dale. Edit 2: At least it's nice to see people in Youtube excited, for a change. |

As for writing, you are not an authority on good writing so don't act like it. Cool you edit books, still does not make you any authority on it. At best you can leave you opinion on writing and note it that way. Especially since art is not science but art. |
Well, Torment probably doesn't bear comparison to sophisticated literary fiction, but it was a much deeper and more interesting effort than most games at the time (or indeed at this time.)
Not many games I can think of that would stand that test. The Last of Us could easily have been a very fine book, but I struggle to think of others. |
