Anyone replaying this with patch 2.0

Good evening

Is anyone replaying with patch 2.0?

Sure the loading times are much better but have they changed the game so much the combat is now easy?

Anyone?

I'm kind of waiting for the second part of the expansion to appear. Maybe I will replay it then…maybe.

Drithius September 3rd, 2015 08:51

yeah, likewise; I stopped playing when my companions turned into demigods from the save/reloading bug. I'd like to try it now with all the patches, but I'll be waiting for the second part of the Xpac.

I have to confess getting a bit lost in all of the 'Enhanced Editions' for games coming out … does this have one coming I should be waiting for?

AFAIK, no.

But if you plan on playing it, maybe you should wait for the 2nd part of the expansion, which will likely add even more stuff.

I'm not sure if they'll ever get around to fixing the atrocious pathfinding, but if they do - it could save you some frustration to wait for a potential future patch.

As much as I hate to admit it, it's getting increasingly counterproductive to play games near release.

As it is, 6-12 months post release seems to be the sweet spot.

Thanks for clarifying - since I don't keep as tightly in-tune with games as I used to sometimes this stuff gets murky!

I don't regret playing it when it came out - but am glad I held off on my replay (I think it was you who suggested that I wait at the time!). I didn't but the expansions, so I reinstalled today and will see if I replay before the 2nd part arrives (installed on Mac, still playing NWN and Gothic 3 on PC)

Pladio September 3rd, 2015 14:47

Nope, I played it only for 5 hours or so and then stopped.
RTwP is really not for me. I loved everything about the game, but I just cannot enjoy this combat system.

It ruins the experience for me. So unfortunately, I am unlikely to ever finish this game.

Not yet… I really had great time playing PoE as it was like playing a new baldur's gate game. And I do like rtwp type combat, so no complaints there. I will however wait for the expansion p2 before continueing my adventure or replaying the entire game all over again :)

I've been resigned to this for years.

Fortunately, my backlog of interesting games is so large that, once I trained myself out of excitedly buying new releases, it's no problem for me at all. It can't be a good thing, though, if everyone starts to defer purchase because of this studio culture of release-now-patch-later.

Hey Pladio, just wondering if you tried out the "slow-down mode" to make combat easier to manage and less reliant upon pause? Perhaps this may help some players with an aversion to RTwP systems, although even in my case some pause is still required, especially when it gets tough and where every moment counts.

Like the IE games, there's also a variety of options for automated pause and now with the latest updates via the first part of the expansion, we have AI behaviors to experiment with if that's your thing. Individual stealth mode is also a most welcome addition. (Scouting is fun!)

Kordanor September 7th, 2015 14:43

If you are playing on highest difficulty you are still pausing 2-3 times per second, even on slow mode. A faster mode would simply be unplayable for me.

But to go back to the initial question: Haven't checked into the Expansion yet, and I am not sure I will.
While the base game was fine, I didn't like a couple of things:
-The Amount of text was insane compared with it's content. There were walls of texts without any decisions or any real information (especially in texts of the priest/mother).
-I didn't like the story much. It started good, but the last third of the game where it was all about gods was exactly what I do not want in games.
-The attribute system was nice, but you couldn't do anything with them level by level. The Skill system contained mostly useless or no-brainer skills, also because they didn't implement the scripted event system as drastically as they said in previews. And the Traits were nice, but not enough to actually give real choices. Last levels you just picked the best one of a couple which hardly made any sense/difference. And then tons of skills, 30% of which you never use and another 30% which were so situational that you forgot about them in the situations you could use them
-Also I didn't like rtwp in the first place

So right now I am neither really tempted to play the expansion and eve less tempted to play through the whole thing again.
PoE was a good game and if they made PoE2 I would likely play that one as well. But I think I got enough PoE1 for now.

CelticFrost September 7th, 2015 17:00

Well I would agree they wasted a ton of resource on all the writing on tome stones and other places and the story did digress as you went along. Knowing these things on the replay there is no need to talk to anyone that shows up green or read any of that stuff again. Yes that doesn't make the story any better but the new patch seems to really improve loading times and the combat.

No longer thinking to myself should I make something to eat while it loads another 5-1/4 floppy. When I give a command to someone in my party I don't have pause the game 6 times to give the command again.

This is what frusterated me.

Kordanor September 7th, 2015 17:36

In which circumstance was that necessary?

A few times I almost removed the game from my computer because of this. It seems to be fixed now, though I haven't gotten into some of bigger battles where you need to have everyone set just so.

So please help me to understand something about PoE: Is the game patched now to 2.0 without having to install the latest expansion or does one need to have the expansion in order to get the 2.0 patch?

Thanks.

Patch 2.0 is available to all owners and needs to be applied before installing the expansion.

Ah, thanks so much azarhal. :)

CelticFrost September 8th, 2015 02:59

Yes what Azarhal said :)

DArtagnan September 8th, 2015 09:24

I was considering giving this another go, but according to Steam forums - there are a lot of issues involving stat bugs and what not.

So, I'll wait until the second part of the expansion. Maybe, by then, the pathfinding is less painful as well.
