I wish vurt was here - PR pics vs ingame

Before (PR screenshot before release):

Well, everyone is doing it so…. BTW I wonder what happened to Vurt…. maybe the TW3 release made him break down ?

joxer November 24th, 2015 14:45

I always thought he left us because the majority told him that PR materials should not be taken as an unforgivable sin if the game is great (TW3 debate about some trailer).
But maybe he's just charging batteries somewhere.

You need the GECK anyway to place entirely new objects in the world. My guess is that Vurt is busy breathing the crisp winter air outside as he gathers some new assets for <insert_whatever_project_here>.

Please don't give Beth ideas for DLC! :D

Would be nice to see Vurt around in any capacity. Interesting comparison of shots.

crpgnut November 24th, 2015 16:50

It would be better if they were taken from the same distance. One is right next to the den, the other is from 50 yards away.

joxer November 24th, 2015 17:11

Not only that but also the same platform (which is unknown).
As on the second pic plenty of "decorations" are not there, like it was taken on Playstation 1 and not on PC.

JDR13 November 24th, 2015 19:04

Maybe it's just me, but I'm not seeing a huge difference in those screenshots.

Moriendor November 24th, 2015 19:20

Everyone knows and knew even before the Witcher 3 downgradegate that devs and publishers release photoshopped screenshots as marketing material.

The difference with CDP was that they always like to portray themselves as a bastion of moral integrity who would never do such devious things and the fact that they outright denied (= lied) about the very apparent graphics downgrade until finally admitting it.

The issue never was that the PR pics looked different than the in-game result. The issue was that CDP promised that the in-game result would look even better than the PR stuff and when it didn't but looked even worse they denied the obvious. That was the "scandal" and not the photoshopping per se… which is an industry standard.

Feel free to elaborate. I noticed you didn't give any examples. :)

I see better shadows in the first pic, but other than that…

They are rarely photoshopped these days. Most of the time these screenshots (and sometime videos) are pre-rendered in engine scenes using the largest textures and highest poly models. They aren't taken during actual gameplay.

Are they perhaps pre-rendered with effects not active in the final games? Quite often, if they have not been Photoshopped, they sure look like they're using different (better) lighting effects.

Much better lighting in the other one not only shadows, better texture, and better filter and AA.

There's more light sources, but I'm not sure if they're better quality-wise. The texture quality looks about the same to me, and I'm not sure how you could compare the AA in screenshots that small. It would be easier to judge if it was the exact same scene though.

crpgnut November 30th, 2015 17:08

We also don't know the details. Maybe in the first pic, the photographer hadn't been infected with the mole-rat disease and the 2nd pic he was infected! :D
