Eye noticed that the game Sunken is now available on Early Access.

Gah, almost every new game these days kills my interest with "roguelike", "randomization", "procedurally generated", "permadeath" etc. I know it appeals to a certain audience, but the older I get, the less I seem to appreciate it :(

Do others follow the same cycle: read about new game, get excited by screenshots, eagerly read more… then hit the words above and weep into their tea/coffee (metaphorically)?

Edit: Rant over. Sorry.

Yep - I have come to dread the word "roguelike" appearing after some tasty screenshots.

We're on the same boat. In these days these terms generally equal to laziness of devs or lack of budget. It's nice thing to say 'we want to make a game but doesn't have resources to make a proper story and quests.' I feel myself like a mice in a wheel, turning the wheel endlessly without any purpose.

Not me. I find a lot if the "deep" RPG staples really boring, like incessant dialogue, too much plot, hand placed loot, turn based combat. I like all of those things, but I think none of them are required or even intrinsically better than the alternatives.

I like variety but tend to like roguelikes less - has to be a really good game. For ex, I've played the heck out of and continue to play the heck out of CDDA.
