Cyberpunk 2077 - Release at the End of 2016

Henriquejr spotted this rumor:

Gamereactor Germany has been told, that Cyberpunk 2077 (PC version) will be released at the end of 2016. A source is close to CD Project Red has assured that:

Quote:

CD Projekt Red will Cyberpunk 2077 nun Ende 2016 veröffentlichen.

[…]

More information.

There's almost no way this is happening. EOY 2016 might well be an aspirational release date for CDPR internally, but I'd be pretty surprised if it didn't get pushed to at least Q1 2017.

Giovanni1983 December 8th, 2015 20:03

I'd love to see this coming out in 2016, the sooner the better and all that, but i dont see it happening. I just don't think that they'll be able to complete it as soon as September/October of 2016 so it can come out in 2016.

azarhal December 8th, 2015 20:09

Back in May, CDProjekt studio executive (Adam Kicinski) said they won't start to talk about Cyberpunk 2077 before 2017.

I doubt that changed…

henriquejr December 8th, 2015 23:25

I personally think the game will be released in 2017. They can even make videos promoting the game, changing the first '7' (in 2077) into '1', making it 2017. I know I would do this… :)

CelticFrost December 9th, 2015 00:03

If this game was that close the hype machine would be in over drive already.

KaosWarMonk December 9th, 2015 00:09

Why do they even bother throwing out any sort of dates. Queue the inevitable title XXXX is delayed and long list of justifications. Yeah, no sh1t Sherlock. PR machine monkey's wasting bandwidth writing this crap.

This is a rumor from a German gaming website…

There fixed it for you.

Ripper December 9th, 2015 00:31

I don't believe a word of it. Clickbait based on a wisp of a rumor.

ChaosTheory December 9th, 2015 00:36

Perhaps they want to compete with Mass Effect: Andromeda?

They could because of the delays with TW3 not being released closer to DA:I. Though I don't see them needing too as they are far better company with nothing to prove.

I still think if it was this close we would be flooded with information about the game and footage. If the witcher 3 has thought us anything about CDR, they go all in with Promotion.

xep624 December 9th, 2015 01:25

I would much prefer to see that game in 2017, even in Q4, as I have too many good games to play - including Witcher 3 and finishing Witcher 2, and KS Golden Games (PoE, W2, and my recent favorite D: OS EE…) and a few more games…

I seriously doubt they care much for ME4.
For all I know, Cyberpunk game is not supposed to have multiplayer garbage with gambling boxes included.

Not that the competition is lacking…
Fallout4 started the clash of sci fi titans.
Next we'll see Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, then we'll get XCom2 and Technomancer. ME4 comes after that, sure, but don't forget at the same time Pluto13 plans to release Elex.

My honest opinion regardless of this rumor is that CDpr will wait at least a month or two after Elex which would place it sometime in 2017.

I just hope we won't get tired of sci fi.
I mean… I can't forece myself to watch any movie with zombies or vampires any more. Hopefully, when Cyberpunk arrives, I won't refuse to play it just because "been there, done that".

luj1 December 9th, 2015 03:37

Whahaahha really…. Totally forgot about this dead carcass

BoboTheMighty December 9th, 2015 04:59

Not a chance…Witcher was announced way too early. We'll see this, at best, somewhere in the mid of 2017.
How exactly do these "rumors" start anyway?…I'm sure, whatever the reason, Bethesda had something to do with it. :P

Idk… I said the same thing about Fallout 4 getting released in November after they announced the game only 6 months prior.

BoboTheMighty December 9th, 2015 06:41

Well, no offense JDR, but you don't have the same intuitive abilities that I have. ;)

Bobo is right…

For me Deus Ex covers my craving for cyberpunk enough. Unless Deus Ex sucks I don't know if I will care about this game much. Hopefully it is more gameplay and less cinematics like TW2 and TW3.

I think CDPR has confirmed that you will be able to create your own character (i.e., choose your class and gender) in Cyberpunk. That alone should make the experience different from Deus Ex or The Witcher games.

My hope would be for them to structure Cyberpunk like Age of Decadence, where your choice of background (class) affects the story and what quests you can do (or how you can approach them). I gather that there are 10 main "roles" in Cyberpunk tabletop game, so that could make for a huge amount of replay value.

Of course, now that CDPR has unfortunately jumped on the "open world" bandwagon with TW3, something like that seems unlikely. Maybe we could hope for a Dragon Age Origins-eque story structure (prologue differs, but rest of the game is essentially the same for all classes).

Unfortunately, I guessing that the dialogue system will probably suck because they'll probably insist on having a voiced protagonist and using TW2-3's take on Bioware's dialogue wheel.

Nope…no respawning options. I hit'em in the back and make a run for it. :P

Couchpotato December 9th, 2015 18:27

Well the latest Polish business show interview with the CEO says otherwise.

‘‘This and the next year will be devoted to The Witcher. Apart from the second expansion we have some additional ideas. They should help us animate sales in 2016. The game is selling so well, that we are convinced there are still many people who will buy it if we promote it further.”

‘‘Life after The Witcher exists. We’ve been working on Cyberpunk 2077 for a long time. It’s a completely different reality, set in the future, with corporations and morally grey world. Just to be clear: We already have the release date for Cyberpunk 2077 planned, but we won’t announce it until we are ready to start the marketing campaign. At the moment we’re concentrating on The Witcher and don’t want to distract users from that product, which we are still monetizing.”

Come on PC-melting Enhanced Edition!

It will probably be released after the final expansion Blood & Wine in 2016.

After that we will see the start of the Cyberpunk 2077 marketing campaign.

Truer words of wisdom have never be spoken. :P

But this mention of "additional ideas" sounds interesting…modkit, some extra game play features or Dlc's ?
If it was anything "larger", they'd probably be more up front about it.

Ripper December 9th, 2015 19:45

Ah, yes - a proper modkit could definitely give them some extra life.

First words of the article "Recently, in an interview to Polish business show, Money, CEO of CD Projekt Red was frankly very open about his and the company’s aims for the year 2016."

Aiming for and releasing are two different things. I would still be surprised to see this by third quarter 2017

Never said otherwise CelticFrost. :)

I always knew this game wouldn't be released till 2017. As CD Projekt Red always said Witcher III will be the developers focus in 2016 with some side projects.

If I recall they opened another studio for side projects last year.

No, no Mr. Potato, I was just quoting your to use your link. I wasn't saying you were saying that.

I like having you back….
