Grand Kingdom Coming West this Summer

Grand Kingdom, a tactical RPG with combat reminiscent of Valkyrie Profile, is coming to PS Vita and PS4 in North America and Europe this summer.

"NIS America is bringing Grand Kingdom, Spike Chunsoft’s new tactical RPG launched November in Japan from Grand Knights History director Tomohiko Deguchi and studio MonoChro, to PlayStation 4 and PS Vita in North America and Europe in summer 2016. (Update 4:50 p.m.: NIS America has confirmed to Gematsu it is planned for a physical and digital release on both platforms.)

“We are very excited to be partnering with NIS America to localize and release Grand Kingdom in the West,” Spike Chunsoft CEO Mitsutoshi Sakurai said in a press release. “Danganronpa has seen great success with NIS America so far, and we are confident that they will also do the best job of bringing the experience we envisioned for Grand Kingdom to fans. We hope that fans all over the world will support us and enjoy this new game as well..”

Here’s an overview, via NIS America:

After the fall of the once-prosperous Uldein Empire over one hundred years ago, the Four Great Nations now wage war to claim dominion over the Resonail continent. Battles are no longer fought by honorable knights loyal to a nation, but by mercenaries who sell their services to the highest bidder.

As the leader of a mercenary squad, the player will lead their troops across a battle-scarred continent, overcoming obstacles and adversaries as they complete quests doled out by each nation. In doing so, they will unravel the mystery behind the downfall of a mighty empire.

With an impressive battle system that combines fast-paced action with strategic planning, and featuring robust character creation and customization options, Grand Kingdom is a Tactical RPG the likes of which has never been seen before. Assemble a squad of mercenaries, form an exclusive contract with one of the Four Great Nations, and participate in war with other players online for the future of Resonail.

But remember- in this new age of war, there is only room for one Grand Kingdom.

I'm glad they're bringing it to the Vita and the PS4. I've missed on so many JRPGs because I don't like playing in a handheld so I don't own a Vita.

I couldn't live without my Vita. :) If you're against handhelds you wouldn't like it, but…wow…so many good JRPG's are on it.

I know, but I just can't. I got a PSP and later a Nintendo 3DS, and got some RPGs for those… most still unopened. I tried, but I don't enjoy playing in a handheld.

What bothers you about handhelds, if you don't mind my asking?

The small screen, the pixels, the discomfort, the tiny controls, the tiny music. I play JRPGs in my 60" TV with a PS3 or PS4, laying on my bed hearing the sounds and music through a 5.1 surround sound system with subwoofer. The difference in experiences is just too much.
I even tried connecting the PSP to the TV with some special cable I bought, still sucky.
