The game is already available on Steam and GOG…

This is the remastered game. Have they released the alpha on early access?

Zloth February 26th, 2016 02:43

It says Early Access for me on Steam & GOG. On Steam it's 27 positive, 4 negative, if you're crazy enough to believe that.

meh… Early Access!! I don't think you should be able to rate a game in early access! It is just too early to properly comment!

Based on the recent livestream, this looks like a polished and slick version of the first MoO. It seems to have a few MoO2 features - but it's clearly not at that level of complexity and is obviously targeting a wider audience.

I have no reason to go back in time and play a lesser 4X game - and I'd much rather just replay MoO2.

That said, I hope the game does well and that they develop a proper MoO sequel at some point.

Well, I dont think so. First MoO didnt have star lanes and RT combat. It was fully TB.

I didn't say it was identical.

Star Lanes and real-time combat are the least of this game's problems.

From what I've read, people familiar with the older games seem to universally agree this new one is a dumbed-down version of the old. Not necessarily a bad game but dumbed down. That's a real shame. I am reluctantly letting this one drop off my radar.
Would have loved simply a modern coat of paint on the old MoO2.

One the plus side, while definitely a different kind of game, I hear the new 4.0 version of X-Rebirtn truly fixes that very rocky release. No one does post-release support as thoroughly as Egosoft. Just bought the most-recent expansion, currently on sale on Steam for the next 20 hours, for the thoroughly reasonable price of $8. Hope to find the time to give it a spin.
