Deus Ex HR - Director's Cut worth it?

So I purchased DX: HR and the Missing Link DLC many years ago and hadn't gotten around to playing them yet. Frustratingly, as you probably know, they have created a "Director's Cut" version and want me to pay for the game again to play that version. That bothers me a lot just on principle. I am very against spoilers, so please refrain from any such details in your response. So… if I want the best DX: HR experience, should I shell out for the director's cut?

I did what you're asking about and bought then replayed DC too.

The answer on the title question is IMO: No.
The change is simply not worth paying for (improved boss fights, missing link integrated instead of being separate "mission"). IMO they should have given DC for free to those who had both the game and standalone DLC.
So stick to the original version.

One thing more in case you decide to buy DC in the end. There were posts on Steam that DC reintroduced bugs in the game that were patched in the original version. By my experience this is not true. If there are bugs in DC, those are some new ones. I didn't notice any though.

As joxer said, the DC version integrate the DLCs (including all pre-order ones, on of which included a mission) and change the boss fights a bit. It also remove the yellow piss filter.

It's worth it when it is on sale for under $5. I personally got it in humble bundle with a bunch of other game for like $10. Otherwise, no, not worth it.

I'm pretty sure that you will be able to buy DC with some discount, if you have the original.

Thanks for the replies!

The game itself is great though.

Great? The game itself is nearmasterpiece.

An example, it's the only game ever I felt something while falling from heights - my stomach actually squeezed itself like I'm in some fastmoving elevator just watching it in the game.

loading…

Something else has to be said about it too. Icarus landing is actually a loadscreen. A perfect loadscreen - an execution lightyears above horrible elevators in Mass Effect 1 and Fallout4.
It's a shame I can't find a video better than the one up there where you can fall several floors down, but whoever plays the game, don't be shy to try it.

In my last playthrough of the game, I was "Icarus landing" everywhere in Hengsha.

Not as fun as Dishonored "blink" though, but DX:MD is getting its own "blink" (aka icarus dash).

Assuming I'm not mixing up versions, the big difference between the two is that the regular version of DX:HR has patches for it. The Director's Cut version was made from the unpatched version of the game, so while it adds some alternate options for the boss fights, it has none of the gameplay fixes (like unconscious bodies spontaneously dying if you bump into them or move them around).

It's 75% off right now at GMG.
