Bevilex' modlist for Oblivion - Graphics

https://www.nexusmods.com/oblivion/mods/47591/ followed this list (its mostly about graphics)

And if you want it with videos https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GHLBtq_TJiU there are like 12-13 videos but its easy once you get the hang of it

As maligned as it is by some it's still a good game, especially once modded (meaning not just graphics). I'm 50 hours into Dragon's Dogma at the moment for example and whilst it's a great game in many respects I do feel somewhat limited for character/situational options when I compare it to Oblivion. I suppose this might be down to it being a console to PC port whereas Oblivion was the other way wasn't it?

Ripper March 24th, 2016 04:42

I never finished Oblivion, because the level scaling really spoilt it for me. But, in many ways I loved it, and I think it had a certain charm that Skyrim was missing.

I might look into a mega-modded setup, overhaul the scaling, and pimp the graphics. Thanks for the video.

Nah, Oblivion was definitely developed with consoles in mind. I just think those are very different games to compare. Dragon's Dogma wasn't designed to have much depth outside of combat and the pawn system.

I show the game in 4K with graphics enhancements and many great mods on my YouTube channel. Skip ahead a few episodes and you'll see things like an expanded Imperial City and more.

Just started to play this heavily moded

Played for about 7-8h, no crashes yet so the guide is good.

Looks very pretty. Ya I still enjoy OB from time to time. I didn't for a long time. I'd modded it with FCOM and found playing a real chore - my specific setup had ended up with many more mobs and very brutal combat. After blowing that install away and taking a more considered approach instead of blindly overhauling everything I settled on a setup that I really enjoyed. As much as some seem to dislike them I think it's a credit to Bethesda that they produced a game that lets you mold it to such a degree. If you can take the time you can make it fit your personal tastes.

JDR13 April 11th, 2018 01:29

It looks nice, but that's a lot of work. Is there no all-in-one package for Oblivion like MGSO for Morrowind?

Lolozaur April 11th, 2018 07:32

No, since it requires several programs to install mods; plus the size of the game, vanilla is under 6GB i think, now with these mods i see its 38GB; it takes some hours but its easy. You need to watch the first video to learn how to use the main programs and the 2nd to learn how to install the mods, after that its easy, just follow the written guide, no need for videos anymore.

But if you want to play it, its worth it, game looks very good even without the enb.

Quick questions here :)

1) What's the ENB you're using ?

2) Are you (or anyone else here) using FCOM mod? Or OOO, at least? If so, do they conflict with the list you posted? Is FCOM mod still the same it was years ago (was it updated? etc)

I miss playing Oblivion, a game I never finished because of some bugs (artifacting) probably due to mods I was using back then and also because I was mounting a new PC at that time, and I got distracted by something else…

Lolozaur April 11th, 2018 15:32

Im using this https://www.nexusmods.com/oblivion/m…ab=description , looks more oblivion like
I dont use fcom or ooo

JDR13 April 11th, 2018 17:54

So you're only using graphics mods? Nothing to tweak the level-scaling?

Lolozaur April 11th, 2018 19:36

Well, that guide is called Bevilex' modlist for Oblivion - Graphics ;)
There is a section there More mods that contains more than graphic mods but didnt installed them

JDR13 April 11th, 2018 19:50

I'm just a little surprised to see someone here playing it without doing anything to adjust the scaling. I consider Oblivion almost unplayable with the default level-scaling.

Ragnaris April 11th, 2018 23:26

I really enjoyed Oblivion, perhaps more than most here. But admittedly, the leveling system is my biggest complaint and is the sole reason I hardly ever revisit Oblivion. I stand by JDR's statement. I simply cannot enjoy it in vanilla form.

However, I do believe the game is still gorgeous and was ahead of its time back in 2006. There's a sort of calmness to exploring Cyrodiil, no matter where you go.

Ripper April 12th, 2018 01:08

If you're going to play without modding the scaling, just make sure to level up as a combat build, or you'll probably have a frustrating time. I leveled up as a thief-type character, and then got thoroughly pissed off as combat against standard opponents found me progressively weaker.

Lolozaur April 12th, 2018 08:44

installed these

Faces seemed to be missing in those vids. That's where Oblivion looked bad.

Lolozaur April 12th, 2018 16:57

No problem with faces here, they look quite good imo, facial expressions too

Certainly looking good.

JackOfOwls April 14th, 2018 17:14

Though I came to love Oblivion, even vanilla, it was jarring to say the least to see low-level bandits and brigands wearing green glass armor attacking me with high level weapons. When I played it with some of the big mods it was quite acceptable, save for the constant crashing because it wasn't designed to run with more than 3-4 GB ram. There were a few mods I regretted playing though, like that nutter Giskard's, though he taught me an important lesson about the prevalence of massive mental instability in the modding community.

Jaz April 15th, 2018 08:59

Well, I managed to get the Umbra sword by accident at level 3 or so … discovered Ayleid ruins, bumped into a boss enemy, kited her through all those poisonous fumes down there until she dropped dead … and she dropped Umbra. Leveling was rather easy then.

But I loved Oblivion so much (and no, it was not my first ES game, it was No. 6)… still have these fits of nostalgia whenever I'm in Cyrodiil or at the Gold Coast in ESO.
Especially when I ran into several Truiands and a Pania Hayn in Kvatch.

I probably should try this out.

Couchpotato April 16th, 2018 02:23

Just a counter to this thread that I agree with.

It was a shock to go back to The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. I hadn’t been prepared for how dated the world seems now. I remember it as a vibrant, strange landscape which filled the areas between massive cities with wildlife and odd buildings. In 2018 it is a sparse place. There aren’t enough trees, there aren’t enough textures, there is a bit of bad weather that seems rooted in place near Kvatch so you can cause the rain to fall by walking into it. It’s clunky and weird, but it feels so good to be back.
If it wasn't for mods I wouldn't even replay Oblivion.

Still have nightmares over the female faces.:faint:

azarhal April 16th, 2018 15:11

That PCGamer dude took 12 years to realize that Oblivion colors were muted and faces looked horrible? OMG!

It took me one hour back in 2006… I don't think I truly played Oblivion without a face mod.

azarhal April 17th, 2018 14:37

For good measure, because I'm mocking someone in the previous post (and check if my rose-colored glasses works properly or not), I can say that re-installed Morrowind and Oblivion this weekend (but I didn't launch Oblivion until last night). I wanted the patched vanilla experience because I didn't want to spend more time downloading/installing mods than I will be playing and I haven't really seen the vanilla experience since those games released…but I had to install a few mods outside of the patch ones. I didn't even want texture mods but Morrowind blurry face/body textures and Oblivion faces and LOD are just too awful to look at.

For Morrowind, I also had to install a bunch of mods that added Oblivion features (magicka regen, running don't drain fatigue, faster base speed) and that was before starting Oblivion up. The few hours I spend in vanilla Morrowind gives me the impression that I'm leveling skills for quality-of-life improvements and not really getting more powerful.

Oblivion feels a lot smoother than Morrowind do control wise. I haven't installed a single gameplay changes outside changing the UI (console UI on PC always annoyed me) and I will probably install the level scaling mod porcozaur linked because I remember that being awful. It also doesn't look that bad outside of the face, LOD and lighting.

On top of that, Morrowind overland feels a lot more empty than Oblivion does.

Anyhow, I kinda feel like playing Oblivion over Morrowind now.

BrianOConnell April 23rd, 2018 13:39

I've just given up on another attempt at modded Oblivion. I followed the Bevilex recommended list and got many hours in before it started crashing. While that list results in a great looking game I would be curious to know if any of the guys that make these lists have actually completed a game with their list installed. If I do try again I will just install the critical mods, character overhaul, Maskar's Oblivion Overhaul, Oblivion Scaling Unclusterf*cked and Oblivion Reloaded. The rest I can do without. I play mainly old games anyway so I have no need for amazing res. textures and snazzy book covers.
