Sega's weather forecast message to PC audience: VC4 is not coming to PC.

wolfing November 20th, 2017 19:17

I loved VC1, never played 2 or 3 as they never came for PS3 or PS4 (no handhelds for me), and the real time crap of Valkyria Revolutions was never an option. I can only hope they port 2 and 3 to PS4 some day.

joxer November 20th, 2017 19:32

Yeah, that part about PSP only sequels is odd. Maybe they signed some decade long exclusivity contract?
Additionally the third game is not even available in english. It's hard to believe Sega will suddenly decide to port them both so I guess they'll end up completely forgotten. Which, assuming they're at least half as good as VC1, is a shame.

Warlod November 20th, 2017 19:41

The first one was great. Such a pity no PC release

Carnifex November 21st, 2017 06:52

Loved the one that came out for the PC, and I'll get this for my switch. Finally, a third game to play!!!

JDR13 November 21st, 2017 07:43

I thought the original was ok. The combat was fun, but the characters and dialogue were terribly childish in that typical JRPG fashion.

you November 21st, 2017 16:08

Will not; not on pc - actually I saw this article somewhere else this morning. They suggested it was likely it would show up on the pc if it sold ok.

The one on PC was cool. Wish it had more difficulty options, i.e. disabling saving mid-battle. That could lead to cheesing through tough battles and, well, it was hard to resist. :) The game was made for it, really, so couldn't do much.

Story was cool, characters were cute, charming, typical yet above average JRPG stuff there. Combat was really quite cool, though. Very unique, moving your squad across dangerous battlefields, etc.. Some interesting ideas but I never did finish it, didn't even get close. May return to it someday.

Or maybe I'll play @joxer's favorite, Last Remnant! :)

This is what keeps me away from most JRPGs, alas. Sometimes I can overcome it, but I've regretted buying so many that I've finally learnt my lesson and am a bit more circumspect now. I've owned the first VC for quite a while now. Sometime I'll get back on that bike and give it a go…

Favorite my arse.
I've already stated why I can't recommend TLR to anyone. Except developers who want to try some new combat systems to check how an unique style can be ruined with grind.

Actually the graphics is also childish in that game, there is no blood and gore although the game is about war. Which didn't stop me to call it nearmasterpiece.

Censoring, selfcensoring and trying to avoid bans on international market led to this "childesness", not just in VC1. Because the game wasn't available on PC on release, there were no modders to add at least some nudity.

Anyway, don't blame it on developers. Next time you vote, check who wants to get rid of censorship. When it's gone, also will Nintendo childish designs.

I still hope somehow this game will do appear on PC, thus:

The trailer introduces us to Squad E, which you’ll be commanding throughout Valkyria Chronicles 4. Members include leader Claude Wallace, inventor Riley Miller, and the painfully-cute rescue dog, Ragnarok.

Never heard of this game until now, but it looks excellent. I'd buy it, although I do think I can do without the vinyl tank =p.

Zloth May 25th, 2018 01:30

Looks good in the trailer and Ragnarok looks way better than that fool pig.

So, is it proper to start taking bets on which of the characters is going to die?

wolfing May 25th, 2018 05:05

I have yet to finish VC1 (first time I rage-quit in some mission I failed after a few attempts, second time I didn't even get to that point, I'm getting suckier at tactics I guess). Then I'll play VC2 and 3 in an emulator probably.

evrae May 29th, 2018 06:27

VC1's story was a tad too melodramatic for me, but I loved the setting and aesthetics of the game. Will always give this series a chance.

Ripper May 29th, 2018 11:30

I thought the gameplay in the first one was great. Reminded me how infrequently I really enjoy the gameplay in modern games.

joxer May 29th, 2018 13:14

If you played it on PC, then yes, gameplay with K+M is spectacular. Not once I said that game breathes as if it was ment for PC in the first place.
But playing it with mushrooms? I don't think it could be fun. Seems console audience thought the same - the game sold some small number of copies on consoles. And those copies mostly ended up like in azarhal's case. Never finished.

No azarhal it's not tactics, it's controls. Thus I refuse playing VC2&3 with mushroom emulators.
If someone still suspect tactics, then hint for all those who have problems with VC1 - make sure scouts are at least one level higher than other classes. If you're in the middle of it, grind a few misions then improve scouts.

Good news thanks for sharing that Carnifex.
Now we just need 2 & 3 released on the PC.

No date specified, but will happen sometimes this year. Note - the steam release will contain full japanese audio for all of us who don't want silly dubs.
Instabuy for me.

Not really. Both are Nintendo Gameboy outdated inferior designs garbage.

Carnifex June 12th, 2018 16:16

I never thought stalking old Sega forums and people would pay off, lol. It sure did yesterday!!!

Yeah, I'll be purchasing this as soon as I see an option to do so. Preferably on good old games, but if not, steam will suffice. This shall, this must be mine!!

Wrong both released on the PSP/PlayStation Portable , and I enjoyed both of them.

joxer June 12th, 2018 17:13

And what exact difference is between gameboy and psp?
The owner company. Both are same shit different wrapping.

As for enjoyment, I guess you're easy to please. :p

Zloth June 14th, 2018 01:00

This, Yakuza, Shenmue… Sega is cranking them out!

I might buy Yakuza just in the hopes that Persona eventually gets the computer translation treatment as well, some day.

I'd love to see that, too. They'd honestly be stupid not to release Persona 4 and 5 for PC, seeing how successful similar games (Trails of Cold Steel, anyone?) have been.

joxer June 20th, 2018 14:47

Huh? I really don't see any similarity between Cold Steel and Persona. Cold Steel feels like a product that somehow escaped from PC instead of being originally on it. Persona breathes as if was originally ment to be a phonegame.

You're right though, while I'm not interested in Persona games, those sell like a cure and not porting them to both phones and PC would be a serious mistake.

Carnifex June 20th, 2018 16:13

How the Persona games haven't ended up on great old games or steam is beyond me. That is basically just easy money waiting to pour into their coffers. Sure, you got to translate and optimize, but I'd be astounded if these games didn't turn a profit. Of course, to really capitalize, you'd need to translate all of them for the computer audience, not just one or two.

I guess I was sorta thinking, like…ToCS, P4, and P5 all have you playing high school students who have to balance class, social lives, dating, social links, and dungeoneering? They definitely have their similarities when you think about it…

Carnifex June 20th, 2018 19:18

I'd agree, there's a correlation between those games listed. Lots of games bring higher education into the mix, but not many make it an integral focus for much of the entire game like those.

Zloth September 22nd, 2018 06:30

PC Gamer likes it.

you September 22nd, 2018 09:24

From everything i've read i'm very optimistic however the only reason it is not a day one buy is i'm going to wait for all the dlc to be released.

Carnifex September 22nd, 2018 14:35

Yeah same with me, I'd rather buy it all in one fell swoop than pick it up piece-meal.

Well I don't play DLCs so that's not a problem in my case. I do want to play the first 3 before I play VC4 so that is a problem.

Zloth September 23rd, 2018 21:45

I don't know if there's a point to playing the games between.

joxer September 24th, 2018 13:01

VC1 is almost a masterpiece and is available on Steam, there is every point of playing it.
VC2 apparently has a story for 5 year old kids which is not a surprise being Nintendo Gameboy or some other rubbish hardware title, definetly no point bothering with.
VC3 apparently has a mature story so perhaps there is a point to play that one.

Apparently. No PC version means I saved money and didn't check myself if what I've heard about VC2 and VC3 is true.

joxer September 25th, 2018 02:30

Bumpity bump.

For those who are interested when DLC and what DLC:
http://valkyria.sega.com/dlc.php

Note that "A Captainless Squad" DLC is free for all who preordered and will be included within the game automatically at release.
Others won't be able to get it for a month. Stupid Sega…

Quoting Steam:

This game will unlock in approximately 13 hours

joxer September 25th, 2018 15:58

No comments on that? Okay, I guess everyone here except me loves when something smells like DLC:The Game.

- The AI is fully aware of everything I just told you
- It’s not confidential, you’ve got potentials
- It wouldn’t be a JRPG without grinding now, would it?
Some new reviews appeared:

Kotaku - played on PlayStation, without score:
Quote:

Type Of Game:
Military Debacle Simulator
-
Occasionally unfair and glitchy combat scenarios, inconsistent tone undercuts the narrative.
-
Nearly 30 hours. I still have a few missions left.
wccftech - played on PC, 9/10
Quote:

The only other minor issue for me would be the UI when it comes to roster changing, unit upgrading and levelling up in the headquarters. Valkyria Chronicles seems to think something along the lines of “Why click just three buttons when I can force you to click six?” and by god does it make you. It’s just another small niggle in what is an otherwise fantastic game.

- On occasion, the storytelling can drag on or become irritating as you have to drop back to the menu just to watch another scene.
- Mission ranking based on speed, not intelligent play (such as not losing units)
- Insane difficulty spike towards the end of the game
- A poor user interface in the headquarters, where all your upgrades and levelling up are performed
