Kingmaker - New Race Added!

Pathfinder: Kingmaker has a new update which announces a new race has been unlocked. A forum poll will determine which race is added.

Quote:

New Race Unlocked - Join The Forum Poll!

Dear Pathfinders,

When our Kickstarter campaign ended, we promised that all funds generated by pre-orders and pledge upgrades on https://owlcatgames.com/preorder would go towards unlocking new stretchgoals. And we are happy to announce that the next milestone, a crowdfunding sum of over $1 million, has been reached thanks to your generous help and support! Thank you so much for believing in us!

Our exact crowdfunding sum is now at $1.026.681

This means that we now have the resources to add one more playable race to Pathfinder: Kingmaker. And you get to help us decide which race it's going to be! We have opened a poll on our forums, where all backers get to vote for one of three possible new races. The three options are as follows:

1. Aasimar
2. Dhampir
3. Elemental*

*Humans, whose family trees include elemental beings. If elementals win the vote, we will add playable Sylphs, Undines, Ifrits and Oreads.

You can vote right now by visiting this thread on our dev forums:

https://owlcatgames.com/forums/showt…xtra-Race-Poll

Please note - you can only see this thread if you have transferred your Kickstarter pledge to our backer portal or if you are a preorder backer. If you need help transferring your pledge, send a message to team@owlcatgames.com

Thank you once again for making this possible! And who knows - perhaps we can even reach the next milestone of $1.1 million and unlock a new playable class - Hellknights.

They are intimidation, relentlessness, and unwavering conviction. They are the black-gauntleted fist of absolute order. They are the Hellknights! Provide your character with even more options to choose from, including unique abilities and items for the Hellknights, as well as the quest line dedicated to the their presence in the Stolen Lands. Face them on the field of battle or fight by their side - the choice is yours to make.

The Mac Beta is here!

Our first beta build went live a few days ago for everyone who pledged at the $95 level or higher and everyone who pre-ordered the $110 Early Access tier. Unfortunately, there was a technical issue, which delayed the start of the beta version for Mac users. We are happy to announce that the issue has been found and is now fixed. The Mac beta is now live! Sorry for the extra wait, dear Mac users.

Hail to the Kings!

More information.

Woohoo! A good news, they certainly have been busy!!

joxer April 17th, 2018 03:29

I hope this race was added.

For an extra $100K, you'd think they could add all of the new races. Guess it doesn't work that way…

They are probably doing this to "keep the community engaged". I hate how all these outside factors get in the way of doing an awesome game. I'm rooting for dhampir, though.

joxer April 17th, 2018 03:59

Yup, the point was sharing some info with backers (I'm one too) which is always a nice thing.
It doesn't mean I can't troll on it ofc. ;)

Avantre April 17th, 2018 04:21

The economist in me says that voting for elementals essentially gives you 4 for the price of 1. The realist in me says the dhampir will probably win due to the vampires=cool factor. (Although, checking the results, it seems I'm wrong about the dhampir vote so far. Early days, though)

Carnifex April 17th, 2018 04:28

I'm hoping for the elementals myself, seem to be the most interesting of the lot, in my opinion.

Caddy April 17th, 2018 04:46

I voted for dhampir, but doesn't look it's going to happen :(

All of the options have the potential for multiple sub-classes. I'm not a backer but if I was I'd vote for Dhampir.

The other two otions seem somewhat cliche to me, and they're too similar to what's been done before in D&D and PoE.

Quite frankly, I'm shocked by the results so far. I guess the majority actually prefers derivative ideas.

Capt. Huggy Face April 17th, 2018 06:31

I voted Dhampir, which continues to get trounced in the voting.

Rhawkas April 17th, 2018 07:18

Wow, I'm surprised that dhampir is losing. I was kind of expecting it to win by a landslide since vampires.

Fairly sure that's why they're losing.
Vampires aren't that much of a thing anymore. Maybe there's even that fatigue, like with zombies.

purpleblob April 17th, 2018 09:36

I'm yet to vote but tossing between Aasimar or Dhampir. I would vote for Dhampir if it affects how others treat you (mistrusted etc) but if not, I'd rather go with Aasimar.

Archangel April 17th, 2018 09:57

I am sorry guys and gals but I voted Aasimar :D

Well who wouldn't want a godlike companion? Might be fun trying to corrupt them…

What is a Dhampir ?

Half vampire. Like Blade from Marvel comics.

purpleblob April 17th, 2018 12:15

Just voted Aasimar seeing it is very unlikely Dhampir will be chosen.

JDR13 April 17th, 2018 12:41

*Facepalm*

Nephologist April 17th, 2018 13:02

Voted Elemental.

Hastar April 17th, 2018 14:02

I voted Hillary.

fadedc April 17th, 2018 14:58

I think elemental is more interesting, but Aasimar is already an established PC race in D&D that many people like and may have old Aasimar characters that they are trying to recreate. So it doesn't surprise me that it's winning.

Really? Vampires are truly the most cliche of all at the moment. So tired of them.

I was speaking in the context of these games. Fans of the IE titles and PoE are obviously the target audience for Pathfinder. That's why I mentioned D&D and PoE. There hasn't been anything very similar to Dhampir done before.

Aasimar on the other hand are ripped directly from D&D and were a playable race in IWD 2, while the Elementals seem quite similar to the Godlikes in PoE.

booboo April 17th, 2018 19:18

Seems like a fairly minor thing - how much will the game change depending on your race? It can't be too dramatic, otherwise it would be unbalanced. I remember in D&D you had a levelling penalty if you played a more exotic race…wonder if they'll do the same or whether the changes will be cosmetic (and perhaps just limited to how other characters react to you)?

I don't think its so much the balance as how people want to see their character. Aasimars have been part of D&D a long time as others have stated, and I remember Josh Sawyer saying they had to put elves in Pillars of Eternity, otherwise they'd be crucified by elf fans. Who plays an elf because they have a dex bonus and are resistant to charm? I think the vast majority play elves because they are thin, beautiful, magical beings. And elf fans won't be happy if they don't play an elf. So there may already be a fan base for Aasimars, but not so much for the other races.

Me.

- Although I admit I wouldn't play a terrible demonic character regardless of of the stat bonus.

fadedc April 17th, 2018 20:32

Thinking back about it, I guess all three races have a past history in D&D, it's just that Aasimars were always the most popular, perhaps not so much for their stats but because people liked the idea of playing a divine character. Genasi (elementals) were pretty popular in 4E as well, but I think it was more because of good stats and some cool powers than because people were attached to the idea of playing an elemental. Dhampir have been around in various forms since the days of 3E, but they were never a widely used player race.

Pathfinder removed level penalty because all races in PF get more bonuses so the bonuses that for example Aasimar got in 3.5e D&D is what all races get in PF.

crpgnut April 17th, 2018 21:38

I didn't vote because I won't play the game, but I played an Aasimar in NWN2.

Yeah, that's me

I was leaning towards Dhampir (the description says they are also unusually beautiful creatures) because I was hoping it will change how the world react towards you somewhat but I've been told that's not the case. I thought, well then, I might as well stick with Aasimar since a half undead creature doesn't fit well in my good aligned party.

Ripper April 17th, 2018 23:16

The half-vampire could be interesting. If you ever saw the movie Byzantium, the vampires were never described as such - they were human in most ways, except they didn't age, and they needed blood. One was good, and tried to only feed on the old and sick, as a way of gentle euthanasia. Something like that could have some great possibilities.

were they sparkly vampires? If not, they don't count!

No, these were Victorian harlot vampires with tuberculosis. As they should be.
