Bethesda Teases with possible Fallout reveal

http://www.ign.com/articles/2018/05/…t-announcement

Quote:

Bethesda Game Studios has taken to Twitter to tease something Fallout-related - we just don't know quite what that is right now.

The developer's tweet uses one of the "Please Stand By" test cards used across the series (although this appears to be a brand new version of them), as you can see below:

Predictably, speculation is rife - one emerging theory is, with this October being the 10th anniversary of Fallout 3, a remaster or remake is on the way.

It's also possible that this is a spin-off in the vein of Fallout Shelter. Bethesda is working on a "bleeding-edge AAA freemium game", a mobile title (which may or may not be the same thing), and at least three other projects.

It's not clear when the studio will follow up on this tease, but you can be all but sure that we'll know more by the end of Bethesda's 2018 E3 conference on Sunday, June 10.

Drithius May 29th, 2018 18:08

I doubt it has anything to do with FO3/New Vegas; even by Bethesda recycling standards, that tech is so old and the consumer base so diminished as to make it not worth the effort.

Perhaps they're leasing out the license to Obsidian again… in any case, I don't really care. After FO4, the franchise is dead to me and I'm eagerly awaiting news on Tim Cain & Leonard Boyarsky's project.

Lolozaur May 29th, 2018 18:37

fallout shelter 2 haha

Drithius May 29th, 2018 18:58

Maybe I spoke too soon… I hadn't realized they made Morrowind backwards compatible.
https://twitter.com/BethesdaStudios/…82267516391424

So, yeah, Fallout 3 Remaster quite possible; it would seem there's no limit when it comes to Bethesda and throwing money at old tech.

ChaosTheory May 29th, 2018 19:07

Just saw this… Interesting. IIRC, Bethesda isn't known for revealing Fallout games a year or more in advance, but didn't think we were due for another full game for awhile.

I'd say that's very plausible.

My bet is on the Switch.

Maybe they are adding that creation junk to fallout 3 ?

Arkadia7 May 29th, 2018 21:15

Ok, I do think this is intriguing. Maybe I'm too optimistic, but maybe Betheseda will return to the old school, classical rpg foundations of previous games, instead of the direction they went with Fallout 4. If so, I would be very interested in a new Fallout game, in a new setting!

Why don't they take a page from Ubisoft and the Far Cry series, and set the game somewhere exotic, for once. Why does it always have to be in America? I'm a red blooded American, but I get bored with this game being set here all the damn time.

Maybe set it on an exotic jungle island somewhere, or maybe Central America, or South America, somewhere that most games never even consider as a setting.

ChaosTheory May 29th, 2018 22:01

Seriously though, it's only been 3 years since FO4 and Bethesda usually doesn't announced stuff years in advance like other game companies. Plus, rumors were flying most of the production of FO4 regarding where they were scouting, etc. I've heard none of that so far, so I would be really surprised if it's FO5.

Ripper May 29th, 2018 22:10

Yeah, either remastered Fallout something-or-other on the Switch, or some poncy spinoff game.

crpgnut May 29th, 2018 22:32

Yeah, unless it's Fallout 5 or TES VI, I really don't care.

Because the 1950s America theme is a fundamental part of Fallout. Plus I don't see a tropical island making a very good post-apocalyptic setting.

I wouldn't object to a spin-off title set in a far-off country, but don't call it Fallout.

Floatout?

Drithius May 29th, 2018 23:37

Wouldn't hurt them to actually, you know, be original and think of something new for the franchise instead of repurposing the same Super Mutants, Raiders, and ghouls (now zombies) that Tim Cain devised.

Joking aside Fallout 3, NV, and 4 could be played on the switch. Last month I watched a video of Wolfenstein II playing on the Switch with a customized graphic setting.

Based on an interview when asked Bethesda claimed because the concept of Fallout is based on life in Pre/Post apocalyptic America it wouldn't fit anywhere else. I wouldn't mind seeing a spin-off based in China, or even Europe, but it will never happen.

Korplem May 30th, 2018 08:44

I was thinking China as well, just for a change of pace and to show the other side.

Please don't. There is no need to kill off other presidents.

Please do as China was one of the major causes along with the enclave for the nuclear fallout. Anyway it's fine if you don't like that setting, but America is getting stale.

Maybe a game set after the fallout might work also.

Call it S.T.A.L.K.E.R., it's a nice period title and set it in old Russian territories.

crpgnut May 30th, 2018 14:48

Anybody know what 1950's China was like? I don't. They could put anything in the game, add a funny accent, and wallah! China.

Well go read a few history books.:p

Maye a few almanacs and architecture books also. Anyway it's an alternate history world so things are obviously very different from our history perspective.

Another way to go would be a hidden US military vault somewhere overseas.

Ivanwah May 30th, 2018 16:02

I just watched the teaser, it looks like a vault management game to me.
Edit: Here it is

Yes, could be an expanded Fallout Shelter.

Its Fallout 76 - possibly online and MP. If true not interested:

Just speculation though on those parts.

There's not much to go on, but yeah if it's multiplayer only then I'm out as well.

crpgnut May 30th, 2018 18:45

Yeah, need more info before I even care at all.

JDR13 May 31st, 2018 10:50

Interestingly enough, I'm seeing rumours that we're getting Fallout 3 Remastered as well. Supposedly, it might be getting announced at E3.

I never was able to finish FO3 but with all my love of FO4 and some desire to learn more about what preceded it, especially in regards to Mac and Little Lamplight, if they did remaster it I think I would give it another go.

I'm more interested in official patch of 99% of bugs instead of just a few textures.

Is Mac a character in Fallout 4? What's the connection to Little Lamplight?

He is the same child sheriff from Little Lamplight in Fallout 3. If you gain enough trust with him in Fallout 4 he will explain how he ended up in the Commonwealth.

JDR13 May 31st, 2018 19:12

Ah ok. I didn't take him on as a companion in my playthrough.

crpgnut May 31st, 2018 19:46

Was that the dude in the back room of the bar in Diamond City? Yeah, he seemed a little off so I left him behind. I picked up the hot little Piper instead and kept her most of the time. Her and Nick. Nick had some great lines. Piper had great curves :D

Yep that's him. In Fallout 4 he is an ex-gunner mercenary.

You already got answered but aye Mac is Robert MacCready.

He is pretty much my all time favorite companion now in any game I have played (followed closely by Alistair, Morrigan, Avellone, and Minsc).

It is mainly his personality (sarcastic, likes the Shroud and comics, good guy underneath it all), fantastic voice actor (really like the voice), and story line (he comes off arrogant but is actually a great guy and has had a really bad life, almost losing it when he lost his wife and his son got sick). I did adjust his looks and created some additional lore on him in my game world but it wraps around his existing lore and the fact he is pretty young in FO4, about 22 or so.

I have been through FO4 7 times now and 5 of those were with Mac. The other two times were once with Piper and once with Danse.

Dogmeat is always with me - thats a given (just like the Mabari in DAO was always with me).

The Third Rail in Goodneighbor though, not Diamond City :)

Yes I know I play this game too much :p
