Torchlight III Early Access Update - Supporter Rewards & Patch Delay
Quote:

Hello Torchlight fam!

It’s officially been over a month since we released Torchlight 3 on Early Access, and while we are always excited to share the latest upcoming news, this week we wanted to take a bit of a break from our usual updates and highlight some of the other heroes that make this game possible.

Without further ado, a photo gallery and tribute of the pets, plants, and people who influence and support Torchlight 3’s development less… directly.

The next mainline release, with the Challenge Dungeon enabled, is looking really good and has a lot of other updates included with it that we are really excited about. We have a few last minute fixes that the team wants to make before we go live, so the patch will be rescheduled.
Underrail Dev Log #67: Version 1.1.2.0 Beta - Waterways and Psi Update
Quote:

Hi guys, We're rolling out a new content update. It's going to land on experimental branch first in order to thoroughly test it out.

To play experimental branch on Steam, you right click the game in your library and go to "Betas" tab. To do so on GOG Galaxy, you go to Manage Installation -> Configure. Make sure you don't override all your live version saves just in case something goes horribly wrong.

The first major theme of this update is the change to psi mechanics. The full changes are listed below. They are not primarily meant to kick the full psi builds down a notch (though they will do that), but to address the following issues with psi that I find the most problematic and detrimental to the game as a whole, not just in terms of difficulty.

Solasta: Crown of the Magister Update - Everybody Loves Magic
Quote:

Hey there folks,

We've spent a lot of time on our Combat Video Dev Diary, so this week's Dev Update will be a little bit lighter than usual. Fun fact, around the same time last year we were hard at work to get our first version of the Ruins of Telema ready for GenCon 2019. Back then, we were both eager… and anxious - it was the first time Solasta would be playable by anyone unrelated to the project. Would people come to play it? Would they like it? Did we make the right choice coming to GenCon - an event primarily centered around tabletop - with our video game?

Thankfully, everything went fantastic. Tabletop players flocked to our game stations (we only had two available!) and queues started to form - we even had a couple of fans arriving before us in the morning to get a chance at playing the demo. If you're curious, we did a small recap with pictures here.

Anyway, back to today's Dev Update

Bloodlines 2 Dev Diary #12: Putting the 'Blood' in Bloodlines
Quote:

When you hear Visual Effects (VFX), images of giant explosions and magic missiles might come to mind, but VFX for games goes far deeper than that. From a mundane leaky pipe or blowing leaves to supernatural Tremere blood magic, VFX is responsible for bringing the dynamics of the game world to life.

VFX artists must be very versatile. It’s our job to bring the vision of the Art Director to life. One day that could be creating realistic blood, the next it might be communicating an idea like Toreador Celerity, or it might be making trash blow around. It might also be something you never even considered, such as our Christmas Lights which are actually VFX!

How Rune 2 Survived One of the Worst Game Launches
Quote:

Some game launches go smoothly, and some don't. Very few go as spectacularly wrong as last year's rollout of Rune 2. More than two years after it was announced, the game launched on the Epic Games Store on November 12, 2019—and on November 13, developer Human Head Studios closed its doors, leaving the game orphaned on day one. As if that weren't bizarre enough, Human Head resurfaced the very same day as Bethesda Softworks-owned Roundhouse Studios.

One thing that makes it harder is that they keep all of their c's at the offices.

Wasteland 3: A Morally Gray Adventure - inXile Entertainment
Quote:

On July 7, an interactive prequel story series featuring two different groups of premade characters available in Wasteland 3 went live on both Twitter and Facebook. Twice a week for two and a half weeks, the community was able to help direct the series of actions that each of these teams took in the wake of Wasteland 2's devastating end. Though not all of the choice paths initially yielded clear-cut sweeping decisions, those who voted eventually made their voices heard clearly and helped direct these characters through peril.

As is said in the closing pane of each of these stories, 'this is not the end.' On August 28, you'll be able to continue these characters' adventures, or create your own characters to experience the ongoing saga of the Desert Rangers in Wasteland 3.

Is it OK to say I enjoy Star Wars: The Old Republic yet? - Eurogamer
Quote:

I really enjoy not playing with anyone else in Star Wars: The Old Republic, which seems like a horrible thing to say given it's a massively-multiplayer online game, but it's what I've always done. It's not that I hate other people, or that I'm zealously role-playing a Sith Lord who hates people (though I am a Sith Lord who hates people), it's just I want to be the only hero in my Star Wars story, thank you. Everyone else can chuff off, and I love that Star Wars: The Old Republic gets that.

SWTOR has always understood a good chunk of people want to play it because they want a Knights of the Old Republic experience, not because they're mad keen on grouping up with a load of strangers. That is why SWTOR has always included long, winding storylines for each character class right from the beginning of the game. Single-player story experiences within a massively multiplayer world - a kind of dual-aspect game. And these single-player segments are voiced, have cutscenes and dialogue choices, companions and romances. They were impressive at launch in 2011 and are even more so now.

Dungeons Of Aledorn- New Developement Update
Quote:

We were very much hyped after leaving TEAM21 and got down to business straight away. As I mentioned in one of my previous postst we needed to create one location of each type, so we started with what we thought is going to be easiest – interior.

The truth is that basic level design was not too complicated, it is pretty much like playing with Lego, when you have limited block selection, but when you miss one real hard, you can either build or buy it.

Of course we ran into a number of small and big problems, one of the most pressing ones were lights – where to put light probes, where to put reflex probes, what should be dynamic, etc.
Medieval Dynasty Production Update - Steam
Quote:

Welcome Tribe Leader,

With a new month upon us, it’s time that we take a step back, and take you behind the production curtain in our latest Medieval Dynasty Production Update. This time we want to show you more about the survival aspect of this game, specifically on how the seasons will impact you, your tribe, and the world around. We will share some tips which will help you plan your actions, as the more you know, the better the chance that you and your tribe will survive.

Let’s start with dependencies of the seasons. Each of the four seasons of the year has their own unique conditions which impact on you and your work. This is really important if you want to start cultivation. Before you start farming you have to remember that not only each plant has to be seeded at the right time of the year - you can only harvest it at the right time of the year too. Pretty much, we can’t sow in the wrong season.

Is this game still being developed? Oh boy, good news. :) Of all still-unreleased games I've backed (Wasteland 3, Solasta: Crown of the Magister, System Shock Remake, and Dungeons of Aledorn) this is, by far, the one that seems to be the furthest from being released. I even thought it wouldn't see the light of the day anymore.

The main developers split from the original team it seems over a variety of reasons.

Seems it was not on good terms but since they own the IP development is continuing under a new team. He claims he finished a lot of work over the summer.
