It sold well because it was somewhat new to western players. Now the same keep complaining and will not buy the next without changes.
MH games have always been about the grind for better materials and long boss fights. It's what fans of the game love and what the game is all about. MH is not an rpg, it's got it's own little niche.

If it has sold that well, it is maybe because other customers have bought this one.

And maybe it is no longer a little niche.
