Year 2046: Bethesda releases TES XVI, still running on Gamebryo.

2050: Gamebryo becomes self aware.

It tries to destroy humanity, but due to crappy code fails miserably and instead ends up blowing up Bethesda's electric grid, taking down Todd Howard with him.

2051: Todd Howard is found alive and well inside Fallout XVII game. He downloaded his consciousness into a Vault Overseer of Vault 666 just before Gamebryo took down his body.

I like Fallout 76 - but it's definitely rougher than I expected.
