Hosting the panel is Hollie Bennett, CD PROJEKT RED's UK Head of Communication. loading… More information. |
Ohhh… You can already see a graphical downgrade compared to last year's video :/
|
Just increased my hype a bit and after that hour of fun it's back to waiting again.
|
Yeah, graphics seem to be down a notch, but they really got the atmosphere right. Let's hope the RPG part is not too shallow and I will be very happy with this world.
|
I didn't watch the video but were they from pc or console ?

The combat actually looks even better than I thought it would. I saw some neat stuff there - like grabbing an enemy and using him as a meat shield against incoming bullets.
I also like how you have different options depending on what upgrades you have. i.e. ripping a turrent off its mount and using it like a minigun if you're strong enough. |
This just doesn't grab me at all. It's like watching a really bad version of blade runner, like with the Rock instead of Harrison Ford. I hate gangs, drugs, hate crimes, etc. I feel no need to play a role of something I despise in real life.

i too see myself working with netwatch and destroy the gangs. |
That setting isn't for eveyone. Personally, I love it. There aren't enough non-fantasy RPGs.
|
The original ordering of that video is just awful, YongYea put everything back in the order they are happening in the demo he saw behind closed door…as long as you don't mind the narrator cutting at random, I found it much better.
I still think the game is going to be quite "on-rail" though, there seems to be so much scripting in just the small sequences they showed. That gang member bringing like 10 pizzas was awesome, nice detail. Quote:

People are talking that the graphics have been downgraded, this is a reaction I'm seeing common on the internet. But to me, the graphics still look awesome. Maybe I'm not as picky when it comes to graphics, even though I consider myself a graphics "enthusiast" and want AAA games to be pretty and so on.
What I didn't like in the video was the hacking mini-game. It just looks boring and not very well done. It definitely makes me want to create a more action-oriented brute force type character. That did look fun and cool looking in the video. |
CD Project Red might have bet on the wrong horse with Cyberpunk. Not to say their stupid limited Witcher games had any inviting power, they didn't, except maybe the first one, when the world idea was fresh.
I'm not seeing any incentive to play this game, it looks braindead. I feel No hype, no emotions, just see boring lifeless heap of junk. Also the inhuman Cyberpunk elements, like pulling out a wire from your arm - on First Person Camera - or your body opening up like some robot is a major EEEK-factor for me. Disgusting. Looking forward to the Pornhub videos done using the physics capabilities of this engine. |

Yah, it will be an absolutely horrible game, horrible graphics, which will lower the bar all around. You will be forced to play as a criminal meth addict, and then there's this cyberpunk robot crap, totally disgusting!
You have to be kidding me. |
They do seem to be quite fond of the old bullshots - there was a similar pretty heavy graphics downgrade of Witcher 3 just before release. It can be a bit disappointing for people that like to see games pushing the envelope.
Still, the graphics look fine to me, just not anything special - certainly not poor enough to detract from the experience. The gameplay looks pretty solid, and if the writing and exploration are good, I'm sure I'll have a blast with it. |
It sure looks good, and gameplay seems interesting. But I don't know - I'm not particularly interested in the cyberpunk genre, so, like the 'nut, at the moment this doesn't seem to be a game for me. But that's OK. I'm happy that the many watchers (and everyone else) that anticipate this game will get what seems likely to be a very good game. And as I've said again and again, I won't be able to play all my backlog in the years I have left. Even at Maylander speed.
Additionally, I am a bit saturated by all the Cyberpunk info (hype?) we see these days, that may also be a factor for my lessened enthusiasm for the game. (And of course keeping him from actually reading the news). pibbur who won't exclude the possibility of eventually buying the game, but who in this case may (unlike him) wait for a sale. |

Nothing abnormal in fact. That pointed out, it is going to be worth a check on YT to know if the trend is upkept. The woke crowd especially is used to pushing any graphics downgrade forward and lament about big bad corps fooling them. YT should already be filled with videos denouncing the issue already. This CP 2077 product is already very good, beyond expectations. |
The video looks good with impressive amount of detail in the world. However I find it a bit too dark (as in lighting), but maybe this is the intended setting.
Furthermore, I find their cyber-stuff and human augumentation is too much and over the top (ghost in a shell level) to be realistic and therefore not believable. For example, the bladerunner movies were more acceptable to me with genetically modified/enhanced persons with memories in the future, or Johnny Mnemonic with implants. |
The problem is that it has to be playable on PS4 and Xbox One. It almost makes me wish they had just waited until the next generation of consoles.
Still, I'm not seeing much of a graphical downgrade here. I'm also pretty confident that few will be able to run the PC version on it's highest settings for quite awile. People bitched and moaned about a perceived visual downgrade when TW3 was released, but the vast majority couldn't run the game on Ultra settings anyways. |

Can we please stop with the "graphical downgrade" stuff? The price of seeing games in pre-alpha, which everyone seems to want to be able to do, is that things will change. And optimization being what it is, those changes are not going to be an increase in graphical fidelity. It still looks great, and there is going to be a lot going on in the environment.

Hopefully they'll allow a ultra setting on PC which brings the graphic close to what it was in the initial videos, but I guess it is more likely the the original videos was just made for hype, like was the case of TW3 as well.
Also, am I the only one who finds it very funny that they have so much advance stuff and are still manually driving cars? I mean we will probably not even be doing that in 2030… and we already have flying taxis. |
Quote:
Anyways, maybe we will have real self-driving cars in 2030. Then, hackers will take them over all the time, and they'll get out of fasion quick? ;) And honestly, many people here in Germany will probably stick to manual driving cars for a long, long time. Just because they like to. I don't belong to that group either, but looking at the large number of people who still use manual shift in their cars … |
Quote:
I do understand it makes sense from a gameplay perspective to have manual driving of course. But it still does not explain the second example, why are the cars not flying? they even do in blade runner. ( Of course that could again be for gameplay or complexity reasons ). |
I don't think I was ever hyped for this game and that mainly due to the setting. I like fantasy in my RPG and I also like "epic sci fi" like Mass effect/star wars etc but I find it hard to get into anything in the middle.

Even when aware of the institutionalized effect of double standards, this stuff caught off guard. After checking YT, it is flat, no enraged video about the downgrading, especially from the woke crowd that were specialists. For a simple thing like assessing downgrading in graphics, double standards still are an emergency. |
Eventually found one vid claiming that the downgrade is all diversion: graphics will be better than in the first place (and so far better than the downgraded version)
|
Somehow I'm more hyped for Queen's Wish. Well, let's give it a few months…
Regarding the graphical downgrade, it also seems almost obvious that there will be an 'enhanced edition' for PS5 which is currently in development, right? |
Yeah, I'd probably like it more if I could create my character from scratch and choose to play as a goodie two shoes. I still vastly prefer fantasy but even a great fantasy game, like Witcher 3, is unplayable for me if I can't resonate with the main character.

The usual comparison here is that The Witcher series has a similar approach to character creation as Planescpe: Torment did, or Deus Ex. And most jRPGs to a certain extent. In that, in order to provide coherence of story, and to ensure that story is the most prevalent feature of the game, one is not permitted as much freedom of character creation. That freedom is still much greater than a typical Adventure Game though.
