Owlcat Games - Guess Our Next Game Competition
Owlcat Games will soon announce their next game and have organised a competition on Facebook to make it more interesting.

More information. |
The same post can be found on their instagram and twitter as well :)

Very nice! Whatever it is, I'm sure we will get an at least very decent RPG out of it.
|
If it isn't another Pathfinder game I'll be really upset.
But seriously… why wouldn't they do a sequel? They have all the tools and rules (if they retain 1e) ready, would just have to create more content and pimp their engine and gameplay a bit. |
Barbie Dream House. Please please please! :fingerscrossed:

What we should be worried about if this is some HoMM clone instead of RPG. 1. They are Russians and Russians love their HoMM clones 2. This is a puzzle similar to those found in HoMM |

Never played HoMM series but I hope their next game will be similar to Kingmaker/BG.
|
Probably just a new campaign from the Pathfinder universe.
Since I'm somewhat of a stalker on pathfinder kingmaker reddit, people are thinking it's new campaign based on the existing one called Ironfang Invasion or Wrath of the Righteous. Also devs from owlcat said that they were playing new campaign module in Pathfinder universe for last couple of months. Another point would be that they already have a lot of assets and mechanics they can use for their next Pathfinder game which would make sense. Less bugs on the release hopefully. |
I would be more than happy to see another Pathfinder game with the current engine and set-up. Hopefully with all the current races, including the added Tieflings, but prefer something new (i.e. the past game was nicely wrapped up and no real loose ends - let that story rest).
I wonder if they will stay away from any SIM like aspects, i.e. the Kingdom? Although once I figured out how to manage my kingdom, and with the various difficulty levels, I loved it. Was fun to manage once I had it down and enjoyed that added dimension. Not sure I would want to do another and since Kingmaker was somewhat the name of the first one my guess is there won't be. I would not mind having a class specific player base to set up and manage though. I have always enjoyed those a lot. Doing your own Kingdom was like the extreme end of that, while having a little home would be the other side. Be nice to have some like in BG2 which I liked, maybe a tad more elaborate. Also lots of companions, factions, relationships, romances, and keep it somewhat open ended in who your character is like in the first game. |
They already said that they consider added mechanics (like managing your Kingdom) important part of making their RPG stand out in the crowd.
Their next RPG will surely also have something in addition to standard adventuring day stuff. Personally I love that kind of stuff in my RPGs. I loved it in NWN2 OC, I even loved the merchant company management in NWN2 expansion SoZ. |
HoMM 3 is one of the greatest games of all time. I would give them big $$ for their kickstarter, if they were making a new HoMM type game.
A new Kingmaker would be sweet also. For me, I would be happy with either game. Today's RPGWatch news: A new Might and Magic game and maybe a new HoMM game. I've died and gone to Valhalla. |

They started to play a new Pathfinder adventure path back in January. I'm sure the new game will be based on it. Unfortunately, they want something similar to the (not really liked) kingdom management feature from Kingmaker (exclusive to that adventure path) which means they are probably playing Skulls & Shackles…I hope everyone enjoy managing a ship armada and boarding ships. edit: Could be Hell's Rebel, which is about leading a rebellion against a demon worshiping tyrant. I personally think they would have more success with a more classical adventure path without any extra management features. |
I started playing Pillars of Eternity 2 (isometric) by Obsidian and have been quite impressed with its party systems, naval setting, quality and cinematic features. It is distracting me from Pathfinder : Kingmaker. I hope OwlCats next game shows a comparable development.
|
This is very good news. I hope it's in advanced development stage, I hate when any company announces anything I'm interested on and that's still more than 12-18 months away. Way to pointlessly hype people.

The picture looks to me like medieval european … like I know it from TDE …
|
Of course it will be another Pathfinder game as Owlcat have licensed the Ip. Owlcat also talked about this in a past survey and talked about how the next game will be very different from KingMaker.
@purpleblob started a thread with the info - https://www.rpgwatch.com/forums/showthread.php?t=42272 |
Hmm…the HoMM thing sounded far fetched…but they are using the hashtag grail hunting. And turning over puzzle pieces to find the map to the hidden grail was a big part of HoMM.
|
Their little quest seems to be working, they already revealed a section of the image and are asking people for the next one to reveal.

First clue is out - its actually a puzzle that opens to reveal clues.
https://twitter.com/OwlcatGames/stat…491196416?s=20 I see what appears to be a blue skeleton.. gah, is it Skulls and Shackles? :( |

And let me tell you, if it was indeed a HOMM clone this would make me a really happy man. They would eventually make another Pathfinder RPG anyway, and we're not short of good old style RPGs in any case. But a HOMM like game? Truly HOMM like with its management and tactics layer and a bit of RPG? Those we don't have any unfortunately, and the failures of Ubisoft have left a hungry fanbase behind. In any case it will most likely be a sequel to Pathfinder but I find very cute of them this little homage to their past. It kind of makes me want to play Pathfinder actually. If only I had the time to play these long games these days… Quote:

I mean I loved HoMM 2 and HoMM 3 but I loved BG series more. So I would still prefer another Pathfinder RPG over a HoMM style game. They can make that after.

The building behind the skeleton suggest Mummy's Mask to me. It's set in a rarely used setting in video games: ancient Egypt (aka Osirion for Pathfinder). It's basically Brendan Fraiser's The Mummy movie series with some Indiana Jones. Other PF adventure with undeads: - Carrion Crown which is horror based - Curse of the Crimson Throne (not as central as in Carrion Crown and Mummy's Mask) None of these have feature similar like Kingmaker kingdom management, so we might have misunderstood Owlcat's "hook" comment. |

From looking at that picture it’s not entirely clear if it’s an undead. It appears to be an armored target being blasted by lightning, you can see the helmet flying off. It may be a skeleton but I think it’s more likely it’s just someone in the process of being disintegrated by whatever spell that is.
|
Does it have to be a module? Can't they just make up their own thingy?

Didn't Nival make that wonderful turn base strategy game which name i can't remember. All I remember was I had to shoot through wood but not metal and knock the towers down ;)
- Anyway I think i would like to see a revival of that game. Having said that I always wonder what is it like to work in Russia; i mean we hear a lot about organize crime and other harsh stuff and is it really that bad if you actually live there or does it only impact the wealthy ? Quote:
|
Well, their campaign apparently works. ;)

Also, they wouldn't be playing this little game if the image under the puzzle wasn't recognizable by Pathfinder pnp players. |
Quote:
And the turn based game you cannot remember is Silent Storm. |
They also developed two Etherlords games, which were flawed (especially the first one) but amusing.
|
I actually loved Etherlords 2 at the time and even replayed it once later. Etherlords 1 was completely awful though.
|
I was a big fan of Nival Interactive. Eventually, since these guys seem to be making money, I'd love to see another Silent Storm sequel or one for the often-overlooked Hammer & Sickle.
|
Don't forget they made a few other classic games like Rage of Mages & Evil Islands also.
|
Didn't play those. Maybe I should go find them. :)
|
I tried Evil Islands. I gave up. Far too hard for my taste. But I read that especially Russian players like hard difficulties …
|
It's that whole chess-playing tradition. :p
I have no idea if that's actually true, but the Russians and Eastern Europeans are, generally speaking, my favorite developers. First off, there seems to be a real love for RPGs. They also often seem to be more willing to play with the genre -- try some things a bit new. Next, I'd go with the Germans, who also seem to have a real love for RPGs. They're just a bit more traditional, which isn't a bad thing at all. |
